Hilarious and Original!
9 October 2000
Never Met Picasso, written & directed by Stephen Kijak is a light comedy/avante garde type independent movie that deliver's a story about dysfunctional friend's and family centred around the art's/theatre community. Andy(Alexis Arquette) is a 30yr old painter without direction and languishing his time away at numerous parties and hanging-out with best-pal Lucy(Georgia Ragsdale)a neurotic sculptor. Entering a competition to win a trip to Africa for much needed inspiration. Other characters are Actress/mother Genna Magnus(Margot Kidder) performing in a dreadful stage-play The Naked Tenor(Hilarious, because it's sooo awful)and Uncle Alfred(Alvin Epstein) whom share's a little closet family secret with Andy's mother Genna. Other weird and wonderful characters round out the relationship's romantic or otherwise such as Lucy's girlfriend Ingrid whom channels the spirits of female surrealist's and the mercurial art/historian scholar Jerry(Don McKellar) whom pursue's Andy. In my opinon this is an entertaining well made film, however it isn't strong on plot or real depth. Performances are all excellent by cast and so too the work done by Mr.Kijak. It's a comedy and an interesting one at that but not of interest to a mass-public but for open-minded viewer's a worthy choice for general viewing. I own the video and have still enjoyed it after a few repeated viewing's. Recommended!

Body of Evidence (1988 TV Movie)

Above average Crime/suspense thriller!
19 December 1999
Well executed made for TV movie somewhat predictable outcome as most Hollywood production's are storywise and plot-you can see right through it before the end. However good musical-score,well directed, good support player's and fine performances by Marquee name's MARGOT KIDDER,BARRY BOSTWICK and TONY LO BIANCO. Short plot summary as is,Recently married Nurse Carol(Kidder)loves her new husband Alex(Bostwick)a forensic pathologist, but her 10 year old daughter doesn't share her feeling's. For the past nine month's a serial-killer has been preying on their small town raping and strangling young women. Both Alex and the police detective Evan(Lo Bianco)are under a lot of pressure to catch the killer and Alex often works late nights. Carol's life is thrown into turmoil when she begins to suspect that Alex may or may not be responsible for the gruesome murders. RECOMMENDED VIEWING!

The decline of the Superman in the Movies!
19 December 1999
Firstly the highlight's of this film are for it's time a timely storyline about the threat of computers and those whom abuse the power of them, the sub-plot of Clark Kent's trip back to hometown Smallville rekindling relationship with former high-school love Lana Lang. The Smallville Chemical-plant fire-acid disaster that Superman fly's into action for and the split/personality confrontation between the good Clark and the evil Superman are standout's in a pretty abysmal slapstick slock of a comedy weakened by poorly written characterisation's and un-intentionally or not ludicrous humor. SPFX are less impressive, the film's budget was far less than the previous two and it shows production values in decline as a result. WONDERFUL performances by CHRIS REEVE and ANNETTE O'TOOLE and the under-used regular's JACKIE COOPER,MARC McCLURE and reduced to a breif-cameo this time around MARGOT KIDDER as Lois Lane. Nothing wrong with the guest-cast,as actors all are good but their respective roles in this film were dreadful. Not really a movie for repeated viewing's but recommended for small children who should enjoy fantasy and nonsense after all it's a Superman flick and despite as low as they got CHRIS REEVE kept the portrayal's top-knotch despite the behind the scenes creative difficulties that let soo many fan's down.

Every Mother's Worst Fear!
18 December 1999
WWhen reporter Helen Greg(LORRAINE BRACCO)loses her baby in the delivery room her world is shattered in an instant. Depressed and looking for answers Helen buries herself in her work where while following up a lead on an adoption agency scam, she un-covers a truth that sends her spiralling out of control. Convinced that her baby is still alive,Helen becomes caught in a deadly race against-time,determined to to out manouvere a desperate and determined criminal! A descent straight-foward crime/drama though lack's additional character development that would've elevated this film above average and injected more empathy to the plot. All-round adequately directed/scripted, the lead acting performances are good by cast BRACCO,MARGOT KIDDER as Cop/friend to Bracco's character and bad-boy/villan's JASON GEDRICK and JOHN HEARD. This film was bought on video-tape as early christmas present for me by a friend,I liked it and recommend viewing to those that are fan's of the lead actors or of crime/genre stories!
