Bats (1999)
Actually not that bad..
After reading the horrible comments, and the very low rating here on IMDB, I just had to watch this film. An hey - with Dina Meyer in it, could it really be THAT bad ? The answer was no !
I honestly don't understand all the bad comments here on IMDB. The movie has a decent plot, and the actors are somewhat believable. There are a lot of clichés - but so what ? Can anybody name just ONE recent Hollywood production that isn't full of clichés ???
My rating of this movie is a solid 7. That is to say: It is a decent B-movie worth watching. Special effects could benefit from a higher budget, but Dina Meyer's cute face and believable acting saved the day - and the movie. She proves herself to be the next-generation Ripley ;-)
Now all we need is a bunch of aliens, rather than mutated bats... Because everybody who gave this film a bad rating probably LOVED "Alien"... right ?
Godtcha !!!
:-D
Spider-Man (2002)
Saw the movie... liked the comics !
My expectations were high, as I have been a Marvel Comics fan for many years. Unfortunately, great effects and a rather good bunch of actors were unable to rescue this film from its own poor plot.
If I wanted to be in a terrible mood afterwards... if I wanted a heartbreaking story... if I wanted a drama to make me cry... WOULD I WATCH A "SPIDER MAN" MOVIE ???? What were the scriptwriters THINKING when they wrote this script ? One thin is for sure: They were not thinking "marvel" and "super hero".
The tale of Spider man is a tale of desperation, hopelessness, broken hearts and despair in quantities that would make even "Titanic" look like a cheerfull comedy. I am aware of the fact, that the Marvel-based Spider man has problems in his life, but does that mean that 85% of a whole movie should be about the misery of the main character ?
I hope the 2nd Spider man movie is not as bad... or rather: "sad"... as this one !
Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
A must-see for the sci-fi fan !
The first real cyber-punk movie ever with commercial success. The movie is certainly NOT full of clichés, since it is the first of its kind - a trend-setter for all cyber-punk movies to come. Although the manuscript could benefit from a few extra hours of work, the movie itself and the concept behind it, is the perfect school for Keanu Reeves to learn his role as "Neo" in "The Matrix". Set your mind free, and allow your imagination to take over... just for a little while. This movie is certainly no less realistic than "The Matrix", and a `must-see' for any science fiction fan !!!
