Taking the Heat (1993 TV Movie)
Pretty cool movie
15 December 2001
This is a feel good film. Well, I got that feeling from it. Crime, drama, gangster, court and a little romance thrown in, the entire film is steady and this makes it simple to view and enjoy. Not too heavy or complicated, it relies on scene structuring to cultivate the story line. It has the type of acting that provides a comfortable viewing experience. Humor is placed in a measured effect throughout the film. The plot is steady. It seems to give the same atmosphere of TV or detective shows made in the 70's. One nice thing is the use of good actors without causing any single actor/character to become the "star" of the film. Also of note; the intro song is good, the use of radio and TV broadcast in the film and the sky shots of the city.

Joe Dirt (2001)
Earth is Dirt
3 November 2001
This is a dumb movie, silly as can be. It takes a while for the funny and gratifying nature of the film to reveal itself. Soundtrack, too cool. Filmography and camera, great. Joe Dirt covers the earth with a foolish scheme of human nature and the oddness of humanity. Notice the director has mostly TV series as past credits. If you want to see good professional actors act like idiots, then here it is. Be patient with this film and enjoy the timed story changes. Pathetically good. Truly, aside from the good acting, the soundtrack might as well be the label for a party. This may be one to see more than once.

Midnight Ride (1990)
Creeper qualities
9 September 2001
Even halfway through this film, I would not have recommended it. Now I would watch it again. It seems like one of those weak plotted, thrown together films with dull and boring driving scenes. And there is plenty of that. But it is not the plot. Nor is it stunning acting. So what is it about this film that works? Strong, pressing acting, without letting up. Each lull in the "action" precipitates more progression towards anticlimax. It gains a hidden rhythm and timing which turns what would seem to me to have been the most boring movie of the month, if not of the year, into something that stands on its own. Incidentally, they must have spent a small fortune on explosive materials. For a film having only four leading actors, Michael Dudikoff, Mark Hamill, Savina Gersak and then finally, Robert Mitchum, who plays this kind of role well, there was more going on than normal observation revealed. It comes out as a strange film and if you appreciate the way these things come together with a good, full cast, then watch it all the way through. After it is over, you'll like it. Then when you think about it, you'll like it a little more. Very odd. In fact, as I consider it now, part of the character of the film borrows from the style of older horror films made in the 50's and early 60's.

Better than critics moo
7 July 2001
Has the same improbability clause of other flicks in the same genre. Notwithstanding, Chain Reaction has excellent lighting and set design. There is overall a strong dependency on team acting and multiple scene rotations. This gives the film a docu-drama effect in the beginning. The fast paced scenes may obscure the plot for some. For me the cinemagraphic effects and acting are A-1. Obviously the writing and direction are good, or this film would not hold together at all, and it does. Because there is little character development, the focus is on scene development and approaching plot. This sort of editing technique and direction does not happen by chance and must be recognized as a valid concept. Most certainly a film with character and merit which can be enjoyed by those looking beyond a breadcrumb plot and a gingerbread house script. Good music score (odd, but good) with good sound effects. Forget the trailer, which has little or no correspondence to the film itself, or maybe it does. This is a rather strange film where one has to believe a group of people with unique ideas came together and produced a rather odd film with value. I enjoyed it.

Rich Production
13 May 2001
This is one of the few films where the characters have accents that don't sound phony. And that is not all that is in good order with this charmer. A variety of portrayals characterizing southern personality types is funny in itself. The plot is very simple and places more responsibility on acting and integration of other film making elements to create a valid viewing experience. From the sound and music to clothing and sets, it all fits. While there is nothing unpredictable about the Almost Perfect Bank Robbery, nothing is offensive either. A good example of what can be done without a large cast and production crew to create a first class picture. I loved it and wish it was a little longer so I could enjoy it more.

Great Film
17 September 2000
After reading the other reviews I can say what some may not like about this film makes it a hit for me. Great soundtrack and musical score. Awesome effects and stunts. This film swings back and forth from near stillness to total pandemonium. It is agreeably disconcerting. Predicting the next scene is impossible. A survival movie of 5 stars. I concur this film has a strange quality, even exotic. Everything about Silent Trigger is excellent, including the acting. I really liked the set design. You might like this movie less if you need a visible plot and an even pace (it's not here!). Silent Trigger would be good in a trio including, say, The Anderson Tapes (Sean Connery and Dyan Cannon) and The Peacemaker (George Clooney and Nicole Kidman), because of the contrast and similarities in all three films. At any rate it would seem to be a film that could use a balance, because it does have a slice factor. So my advice is to pair it with a few other films and round out your viewing.

Funny, Good Acting and Pleasant -OK-
19 August 2000
Although I am watching this movie at this moment I am certain it is stable enough to comment on. The film is somewhat of a parody on relationships and relationship movies. The acting, scenes and writing are quite good. At some times this movie makes points, however it is mostly a silly movie to be enjoyed. More a movie to mellow on, it would be best to rent other films and use this film in between blockbusters. Pleasant would best describe this film with easy music and nice scenes and lots of scene changes it carries well. Somewhat nostalgic in feeling. A special mix here is the good fortune of Tom Thompson (David Schwimmer) that his actions are always amplified as altruistic. Be sure not to expect this to be the "everything, drivemecrazy" film because it is not, yet in this film everything plays off of Tom who as all fabled heroes may have his troubles when others realize his true actions. Some sexual content with very little violence.
