TCG's 15 Martial Arts Movies
16 titles |
Public
A 15-pack of martial arts movies has been available at W--M--- for 5 bucks, and probably other places for just as cheap. Any good? Let's see.
(Note that every movie on the last disc is stored as 352 x 480, instead of DVD's normal 720x480. Those in widescreen have encoded the black bars in instead of adjusting the aspect ration, cutting the number of pixels in the case of "The Streetfighter's Last Revenge" to 352 x 272 actual video area, less then a third of a normal DVD. I haven't checked the first two discs, but expect long-play VHS quality at best.)

The Hoffnung Music Academy (1964)
A mild-mannered little musical cartoon

I found this cartoon on my Giant 600 Cartoon Collection under the name "Music Academy". It's a BBC production based off the works of one Gerard Hoffnung. Like so many cartoons of the eras preceding it, it's a plot less little thing with many mild visual gags and puns, mostly music related; a wide variety of instruments can be heard. There's fishing with violins in a piano, playing a bicycle wheel (in perfect tune), piano fighting (just like bull fighting), etc. It's a late example of this type of cartoon, but it fits in neatly with many others you'll find in any miscellaneous collection of public domain cartoons. I wouldn't seek it out, but I wouldn't skip it if you're watching cartoons and it comes up.
