Nimic (2019)
Funny indeed and well worth your 12 minutes.
Funny indeed and well worth your 12 minutes.
Apparently this review is too short, so I'll go ahead and say, perhaps if you do not have such as an expendable 12 minutes (hmm), well, it mightn't be worth your time. You likely wont have your life changed, and no one can see every movie, nor should they care to, but I'm merely saying it's not exactly necessary, but far from not enjoyable.
Hotel Chevalier (2007)
Odd little film.
Here's an odd little film, but I think it deserves an 8 just for that ending.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
No one wins wars.
This is such well animated. One of the best war movies. Excellent story. This is a heartbreaking movie about a brother and sister doing their best in the darkest of times. I see no reason not to give it 9 stars. Though I won't be watching it again any time soon. Devastating.
Cats (2019)
It's a 7 from me.
By no means is this a good movie. Honestly it's pretty terrible. But it made my little sister laugh and smile well after the credits rolled, so it's a 7 from me.
My Cousin Vinny (1992)
Sincere and genuinely funny.
This has got to be one of my all time favourite movies, despite only watching it recently. The performances from Pesci and Tomei really seemed grounded and human. Both bounced off each other with witty lines in an excellent acting pair up to make for a great story. My brother and I only saw this recently, but really enjoyed it. It is genuinely funny well made, the story is interesting and the ending is perfect. It has some great lines and very memorable scenes. Overall, My Cousin Vinny gets a 10/10 from me, and is one of my favourite movies. Hope this helps! Go watch it, you won't regret it.
Le grand bleu (1988)
The enigma that is the sea
A beautiful movie captures the sea as a character itself. I love adventure movies and this one really is just nice and fun to watch. Between Leon and this I think Jean Reno is one of my favourite actors. The Big Blue has some really funny and witty dialogue and moments and some other pretty spectacular cinematography. It might just be one of my favourite movies. Free diving engulfs the life of these guys. Really is just an enjoyable movie.
Mother! (2017)
Certainly unique.
This movie has me thinking, months after watching it. It certainly is unique, well directed and shocking. I emphasise that last point. Sometimes I wonder whether stuff like this should even be made. I wonder when something has gone too far. Maybe mother! did just that. I'm not sure. From a technical perspective this movie is a 10. Great acting, excellent directing and intense pacing, adding to the uniqueness (the constant focus on Lawrence's character's face, and the lack of a soundtrack, certainly does make for a unique film). But then there is the brutality and grossness used to get the message across, which it does but at what cost? Sure it's a piece of art but it's kind of sick. This film really hit hard with me. It really is a great film and anyone with a pretty strong stomach and a decent perspective of life it's a good watch and might make you think. It's definitely not boring. It's probably a really good film, I just don't really know what to give it. Well, I mean that a tv the end of the day it is a movie, a story, a piece of artistic entertainment. Enjoyable perhaps, moving maybe, 'makes you think' is great. But in a world with so much negativity I don't know if the extent of this is fully necessary. Maybe it is. Maybe mother! has to be shocking and gross to get the message across, so many movies are. I honestly don't really feel right giving it a rating because it seems different to a lot of movies I've seen. I'm only 18, but really like movies, and this one has stuck with me more than anything really. To be honest I'm really just giving it a rating as a form of cataloguing the films I've seen as I venture deeper into the wonderful world of cinema, not that I would soon forget 'mother!'. That being said, technically this film really seems special, morally, I'm not really sure. Anyway, it's a 9 from me.
The Mummy (1932)
Atmosphere makes it
This moody and atmospheric movie can be kinda freaky at times, especially Zita Johann's performance. The shallowness and transference between her modern character and the ancient princess is odd and confusing at times, but she handles it well, spooky. Seems less obnoxious than some similar films of the period. Didn't know I was watching an 88 year old movie, it was surprisingly entertaining. Recommend if you like decent suspense, classic horror, or old movies.
Glass (2019)
I don't think the critics get it
Excellent performances from the cast. Film concludes trilogy well. I don't want to give anything away, but this movie is thoroughly entertaining to say the least. Unbreakable was never your typical superhero movie, I love how Glass gets pretty meta and poignant. Keep it up Shyamalan.
Knives Out (2019)
Fun times at the movies.
Sure, it's not groundbreaking and eye opening. But at the end of the day it's not meant to be. Knives Out seriously succeeds at what it's meant to be, a thoroughly original whodunnit, that is genuinely fun to watch and try and figure out, and when you think you've done that you might just be surprised. It's full of little notes and quirks that make it really fun to try and figure out, with an excellent cast of likewise quirky characters and it ends interestingly and comfortably. It's humorous and entertaining and I enjoyed it. It's directed in all the right ways to give it away, but not at first glance, making it a great mystery. I think Agatha Christie would enjoy it. It's cool to think there are still some fun twists and turns out there and to think that people can keep coming up with fun stories and entertainment makes me pleased for the future of cinema. Sure it does get a little bogged down with its political humour, which makes it awkward at times and honestly it could have done without. Nonetheless, Knives Out can take you out of reality for a few hours and on an adventure to places you mightn't have expected. 9/10 from me for a movie I enjoyed.
Community (2009)
So creative.
Community is a show like no other, let alone a sitcom. It is by far the most creative television show I have ever watched and one of the funniest. The cast is great and so is the writing. The actors are hilarious and the whole premise of the show is excellent. I personally think the second, third and fourth seasons are the funniest, but all of them are great. The writing is genius, no show has ever, that I know of questioned reality as much as this one and it really makes you think. It is brilliant and clever and thoroughly entertaining, causing laughter at some point during every episode just about. I honestly think the first and sixth season are the weakest but it is still great, and honestly still some of the funniest and most creative TV I've ever seen. It gets super funny when the episodes start making you question your sanity, thanks to Abed and Senor Chang/Kevin. The show is super creative, this is the only show I've ever seen that has stop-motion animated episodes, cartoon episodes, paintball wars, pillow forts, dungeons and dragons, multiple realities, and open bottle episodes and endless references to TV and pop culture. One of the funniest parts of this show is that one of the characters looks upon his life from a metaphysical perspective, and perceives his life as a sitcom or TV show, which ironically his life is. This certainly makes for great amusing references and great one liners. It is fairly fast paced and it is the kind of show you could watch over and over again and pick up on new jokes each time, so it remains funny each viewing. I hope someone makes more Community #sixseasonsandamovie
