Plein soleil (1960)
A nice watch (not amazing)
I will just say that after seeing The Talented Mr. Ripley movie with Matt Damon, etc, Plein Soleil felt very shallow. In the TMR, there is much much more plot development, character development, and suspense. I haven't seen a lot of movies from the 60's so I don't know if this would be considered a very well-done movie for the time, but it just felt like it was lacking a lot. That being said, the casting (Alain is perfect) is great, the acting is fairly good, and there is definitely a sense of the italian summer evoked. Overall, it was a nice movie to watch, but it falls very short in comparison to the TMR. Also the fact that it was in French helped its rating because I have a weak spot for Romance languages being spoken in movies set on the European seaside.
You know it's absurd, but it's kind of fun to watch
I didn't love this-there were certain scenes that kind of "pulled me out of the movie" a little because they were acted sort of badly or were just entirely implausible (it kind of felt like the movie was trying to be realistic but at the same time not being plausible). The plot line wasn't the greatest either. That being said, it's not like it wasn't fun to watch. The actors are incredibly attractive and depicted in a sensual way.
The setting is an amazing Australian beach city, which was a positive element to the movie for me. Also they all have Australian accents which was refreshing. It's not trash, but it isn't very good either. Something to pass the time I guess.
Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho (2014)
Great and Sweet Movie
I have seen this movie twice now, and it was just as good the second time. The romance is less flashy than other movies and only is really blatantly shown for a short portion of the film, but instead there is a slow tension/feeling that builds throughout the film and eventually reaches a climax. I sometimes wish movies in general--including this one--were a little more realistic compared to real life, but that probably wouldn't be as enjoyable to watch I guess. Either way, great movie that I would watch again, and I was again left wanting to see more from the characters. 10/26/19 Also, I loved the fact that it was in Portuguese because I have very little exposure to the language, and I would like to see more of it.
