A beautiful cartoon with a message that is never too cliche
11 May 2022
Here is another great cartoon from my childhood, because I remember having this cartoon on VHS tape as a kid a long time ago. But alas, it's been lost over the years, and I couldn't find it ever since. Of course, thank God for YouTube. On YouTube, I had found a really exquisite high quality version of this cartoon, and even I was impressed that a cartoon from Paramount's Famous Studio could be... well exquisite, even from them; sorry to repeat "exquisite."

The story is about Raggedy Ann, who was (mysteriously) thrown in the trash, and found by a kind police officer. The officer gives the Ragdoll to a blind girl named Billie. Raggedy Ann teaches the child about seeing the world through the power of imagination. That is all I have to say about this cartoon, folks. You know in 1944, Famous Studios did a Raggedy Ann cartoon called "Suddenly, It's Spring," where Ann went up to the Heavens to make the Sun shine to make the sick little girl, who owns her, well. Of course, I love this cartoon better.

As I always point out in my reviews, I don't have any particular scene I like, because I love this cartoon from beginning to end. And also, I like to point out a message the cartoon has, which to me, is never too cliche.

A Favorite Easter special with a message that is never too cliche
17 April 2022
I have been looking for new Easter shows to watch. I vaguely remember I-don't-how-old-I-was and one morning, I turned on the TV and saw a snippet of this TV special. Then it slipped from my memory - until I saw it on YouTube that is.

This lesser-known Easter special is about a boy named Benji who must to make a poster portraying the meaning of Easter for a classroom Easter decorating contest at his school. Frustrated for lack of good ideas, he pushes Waldo, his dog and pal, away. Waldo then runs away and becomes lost. In a really bad part of town, Waldo was held hostage by a bad kid in exchange for money. Will Benji pay the ransom? Well that is all I have to tell you folks. You will have to tune in to YouTube; if the special is still on there that is.

I really consider this and a few other Easter specials I could think of, criminally underrated and never seen on TV anymore! I mean the next generation of kids, including my young nephew, should watch these for their Easter. So anyway, I love every bit of this special, with a message that is never too cliche. I really wish it was on a DVD.

A Easter favorite I wish it was on DVD
17 April 2022
Now, despite the 9 out 10 rating, I still like this movie and it is another Easter favorite that I wish it was on DVD.

I was curious about this film's story, after seeing the English-dubbed trailer for its sequel "Rabbit Academy: Mission Eggpossible." I didn't know that film coming out soon is a sequel to this film. At least, I was lucky to find this movie on YouTube. But dammit! The sound was out of sync!

I didn't think it was a bad movie. I thought it was a fun, enjoyable movie for Easter. The story is about a city rabbit named Max, who ends up in the forest and in an Easter Rabbit School. There he feels out of place. But in time, he grows to love the school and learns to be an Easter Rabbit. Max also finds out about a nasty plot conjured by a clan of jealous foxes, which is to take over Easter. That's all I have to tell you folks. You will have to tune in to YouTube; if the movie's still on there that is.

One thing is that I didn't know the movie was based on a children's book. But fortunately there was a copy of the book translated in English. So I'm thinking of ordering it online from Amazon and reading it. Anyway, as I had said this movie is another Easter favorite that I really wish it was on DVD.

A surreal, but still horrific UPA cartoon
23 October 2021
Here is another creepy cartoon for the Halloween season. A surreal, but still horrific combination of UPA's animation and with narration by actor James Mason (Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). I had never seen this cartoon before, until I found it on YouTube. After that, I thought it was another awesome UPA cartoon as well as favorite.

Also, I'd like to point out that I didn't know that UPA, that is known for the famous "Mr. Magoo" cartoons, had done something so...dark and mature, if those are the right words to sum this short. The short was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Subject. So anyway, all I have to say is that this short is definitely worth seeing on Halloween; and another UPA favorite.

A Thanksgiving favorite starring the Berenstain Bears
7 October 2021
The Berenstain Bears TV specials and the original book series were part of my childhood. So is the 1985 TV series and thanks to YouTube I relive it. Out of the four TV specials that were made, I really love the holiday specials including this one "The Berenstain Bears Meets Bigpaw" for Thanksgiving.

The story goes that around Thanksgiving, Papa Bear and the other bears in Bear Country had received word from a bird, a turtle and a hedgehog that Bear Country's Thanksgiving legend is coming true - Bigpaw is coming! Now the bears prepare for battle. But Brother and Sister Bear had met the gigantic Bigpaw after saving them from falling off the mixed-nut tree. Will they convince the others that Bigpaw means no harm? Well, you'll have to watch it on YouTube; if it's still there that is.

I really love the entire special. But my favorite scene is where the word that Bigpaw is coming goes from the bird, then the turtle and the hedgehog. And when the hedgehog told the gators of Sinister Bog, even they flee. I also love Bigpaw's song, and you know it stinks that this Thanksgiving favorite is the only Berenstain Bear TV special that is not on DVD; I wish it was.

So anyway, my last word is that I love this special, and as I said it's a Thanksgiving favorite. And I really wish it was on DVD.

Dorothy in the Land of Oz (1980 TV Short)
10/10
A Thanksgiving must-see for Oz fans
6 October 2021
I have been looking for other good Thanksgiving TV specials. Fortunately, I came across this lesser-known animated special on a DVD with another holiday special. I'd ordered it from Amazon and before Thanksgiving, I had watched "Dorothy in the Land of Oz" and thought it was another good Thanksgiving special.

The story starts after Dorothy returned to Kansas from Oz. She and her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry are about to have the last Thanksgiving dinner they will have before Em and Henry move to the retirement home and Dorothy to live with some cousins. But suddenly, Em's mincemeat pie was stolen from the window sill. Dorothy followed the mysterious thief, who turned out to be... The Wizard, her old friend. The Wizard since his return to Kansas, had fallen on hard times. Made himself a green turkey balloon, but it was an awful-looking thing. Then the balloon took Dorothy and Toto (and the pie) way up into the sky, and all the way back to the Land of OZ. In Oz, Dorothy meets a new friend, Jack Pumpkinhead, who tells her of an evil toymaker called Tyrone the Terrible Toy Tinker who wants to destroy the Emerald City. Tyrone had stolen a magic powder, Jack was guarding, and had brought the green balloon to life and whisk him and the powder back to Tyrone's lair on Kookala Mountain. Dorothy and Jack at first to warn Queen Ozma, who rules the Emerald City. But Jack thought of using a secret passage to Kookala Mountain and steal back the powder before Tyrone could bring his toy soldiers to life.

That is all I could tell you folks, you will have to see this special for yourself how it ends. And overall I love this TV special - from beginning to end. And a must-see for Oz fans, like me.

Another awesome Sci-Fi, "mecha" anime series
30 September 2021
I have been looking for new animated series to watch, and I was quite curious about this anime series after looking at the screencaps and also the artwork anime fans had done. After watching the first ten episodes last Friday, I thought it was another awesome Sci-Fi, "mecha" anime series.

The story follows a mysterious teenage boy named Takuto Tsunashi who was found on the shore of the fictional "Southern Cross Island" by two people his age - Sugata Shindo and Wako Agemaki. Takuto stays with the two at Sugata's stately home and enrolls at the island's High School. Little do they know that a weird, secret organization known as the "Order of the Glittering Star Cross" with their "mechas" known as "Cybodies," attempt to kidnap Wako who is the Shrine Maiden of the South, to break her seal to activate a special Cybody. Also, Glittering Star had already broken the seals of the maidens of the North and West. Fortunately for Wako, Takuto fights for her as the "Galactic Pretty Boy" and his Cybody "Tauburn." So that is all I could tell you. You'll have to see this series on either Funimation or Crunchyroll, if it's still on that is.

So anyway, as I said I love this series with its story and stunning animation. And I really wish the series was on North American DVD.

Another animated series definitely worth seeing
4 September 2021
As I had said I have put off writing a review for so long; I just got sidetracked. But I got around to writing this review. Though I'm not very good at video games, I have watched on YouTube all of the "walkthroughs" of all the known "Castlevania" games. Now it has become one of my favorite video game franchises. I was really psyched to find out that there's going to be a "Castlevania" animated series on Netflix. So a week after the release, I had watched Season One and I thought it was an awesome series!

You know, throughout the seasons, I shipped Trevor Belmont & Sypha Belnades - and I don't mean boats. So anyway, this series is definitely worth seeing.

A series with a message that is never "in-your-face"
29 August 2021
I love this show and I also love Sanrio too. Like Shunsuke (Shushu) I love Hello Kitty, and like Ryo I love Little Twin Stars. But I also love Pekkle the Duck, Pochacco the Pup and Monkichi the Monkey. I didn't think of this series as any commercial or whatever. But I like that it shows people need a a group to truly express themselves in, in order to feel comfortable with themselves.

I do love how they all have stories behind why our male leads love the characters they like. Kouta's backstory almost had me crying; though I never cry at sad scenes. Overall, all I have to say is that this anime series is another favorite series with a message that is never "in-your-face." Like I'm thirty-five years old, and I still love cartoons and characters that said to be meant for kindergarteners, and there's not shame in it. Also I really wish the series in on North American DVD.

Another anime favorite with superb animation and Sci-Fi action
23 August 2021
This lesser-known movie is another movie I automatically love after searching for new anime to watch; especially movies and series from Toei Animation since I love their stuff. I was curious about this movie after seeing it on the list of feature films Toei had made since 1958. Then last Friday, I had watched it on Crunchyroll through my Roku smart TV. I thought it is a beautifully animated movie; though tragic in most scenes, but it's still another favorite.

The story, based on a 1977 manga, goes like this: 500 years (I think) in the future, life on Earth is rendered unsustainable because of war and pollution. So humanity's decision was to leave Earth, with a supercomputer A. I. and human caretakers left behind. Human now colonize planets far beyond the Solar System; until the planet reshapes itself. Then comes our male lead: Jomy Marquis Shin. When he just turned 14, he was taken by the Mu, who are a race of advanced humans with psionic abilities. Then Jomy found out, he was about to go through brainwashing that would take his childhood memories. And though he was reluctant, he also found out himself is a Mu. That is all I have to say, you would have to see the movie for yourself.

I'm thinking of reading the original manga the movie is based on; thank goodness it's translated in English. I had found out that in 2007, another anime studio had adapted the manga into a series. I'd looked at the screencaps and thought: "I think love the movie way better." So overall, this movie is another animated favorite with superb animation and Sci-Fi action.

Another funny anime favorite with spice
17 August 2021
Let me point out that I have put off writing a review for so long; I just got sidetracked. I have bought a new Roku TV because it has Crunchyroll as a streaming channel to add. I gave it a test by watching this series last evening; everything works fine.

Anyway this is another hilarious anime series. I was quite curious about this series after looking at the screencaps and also the artwork anime fans had done. Also I had read the original manga it was based; thank goodness it was translated in English.

For those who don't the story, it's about a young angel named Gabriel Tenma who had graduated at the top of the class in Heaven's angel school. She then attends a human school down on Earth in the pursuit of knowledge. But then she gets engrossed in a web game and sloth.

You know, it was hard to choose a favorite character, so I would say my favorite character is Vignette. For a young demon she's actually - nice. I think she and another angel named Raphiel should switch positions. Overall this anime series is another favorite series with superb animation and "spicy" humor. Even though I do agree with some fans that with twelve episodes, the story-line seemed rushed. Also I really wish the series in on North American DVD.

Hilarious and adorable anime about the hijinks of Mayu
23 July 2021
This is a hilarious and adorable anime series. Also, another reason I love this series is the folklore in it as a connoisseur on folklore and myth.

The series is based on a manga that follows the hijinks of Mayu a nekogami (cat god) who is stripped of her powers and banished from "Takama-ga-hara" (the Kingdom of Gods) to Earth by her mother for gambling. There Mayu meets Yuzu, a human girl who owns an antique shop known as "Yaoyorozudou." There the two girls, along with a few young gods go on many escapades. Well, that is all I have to say, folks.

You know with her clothes and short haircut, I kind of thought Mayu was a boy; oh well. Also, I felt sorry for her dad for being a hen-pecked schmoe; I hate hen-peckers. So overall, this is another awesome anime series. I thought it's very well written and the animation is really cute! Now I hope they would release the series on North American DVD and the manga in English someday.

Learning about history became fun thanks to these cats
23 July 2021
Who would have thought learning about history could be fun thanks to this ubber cute anime series. The series is basically cats acting out moments in Japan's history in a comical fashion; I am a cat-lover you know.

As I say I am always on the look-out for new anime to watch, so I had come across this series out of curiosity. Then after watching the first 39 episodes I now love it; and I have already 11 favorite episodes so far. So overall, I love this series for its humor and not to mention adorable animation. Also, I love a historical film or series because after watching it, you can research online or in a book and then compare the differences between what was shown and what really happen back then.

Another awesome magic girl series with humor and adorable animation
23 July 2021
I had come across this magic girl anime series from looking at the screencaps and artwork anime fans had done. After watching the first seven episodes, it is now another magic girl favorite; I have twenty-four favorites so far.

The story is the wonderful fairy-tale world of Fairyland on the verge of extinction, while on Earth the story books of Snow White, Cinderella and Princess Kaguya are disappearing because in Fairyland their worlds are disappearing as well. The queen had sent three Ma-Pets (magical pets) Sei the bird, Dai the dormouse and Ryoku the dragon to Earth with magical gems to find three girls who would be "Princess Idols" whose songs would spread happiness everywhere so the "Happiness Tones" would help Fairyland bit by bit. It so happen that the three chosen "princesses" are three ten-year-old girls named Ringo, Leila and Natsuki.

My favorite characters are Leila and Dai. I know I would say this many few times, but this anime is awesome with humor and also superb animation. Also I wish the series in on North American DVD.

My second favorite movie from India
9 November 2020
This movie is the second movie from India; the first was 2011's "Once Upon a Warrior" ("Anaganaga O Dheerudu"). This movie is also the third adaptation of the epic "Mahabharata." Well a folktale based on the epic known as "Sasirekha Parinayam." Sasirekha Parinayam is about a prince named Abhimanyu and a princess named Sasirekha, and they were promised to be married. But when the Pandavas lost their wealth and kingdom in a game of dice, Sasire's father Balarama changes his mind and gives her hand in marriage to Duryodhana's son Lakshmana. That is all I could tell you, you will have to watch on Amazon Video; if it's still on that is.

I was quite impressed by the effects the maker had used for this film, they really suppress the visual and CGI effects in today's film-making. Anyway, this movie another fantasy favorite that I wish it was on North American DVD.

My first glimpse of Indian animation
8 November 2020
This film is my first (and only) glimpse of animation from India. To me, it is like a mixture of rotoscope/motion-capture, flash animation and cel-shading; but it is still awesome stuff on the screen. You know, I was quite surprise that Walt Disney Pictures had a hand in the film's distribution, with it's scenes of bloody violence.

The story is an adaptation of the epic "The Mahabharata," but it centers around Prince Arjun from his boyhood (nine years old) to manhood. I have seen a live-action TV series based on the epic called "Dharmakshetra." You know, I think I might read the "Mahabharata" myself; it it isn't too complicated that is.

So anyway, this an animated film I really wish was on North American DVD or even Blu-Ray.

Another animated favorite I really wish was on DVD
8 November 2020
Here is another animated film I wish was on DVD or Blu-Ray. This movie was also the first movie I had added to my "Watchlist," when I got my Amazon Video account.

There isn't really much to tell about the story, except that it is about two children Peter and Anneli (Annabelle in the dub) who took a magical yet dangerous journey with a May Beetle Mr Zoomzeman (Mr. Buzzworthy in the dub) to the Moon to get Mr. Zoomzeman's missing leg back, because a long, long time ago a thief had stolen wood from the forest on a Sunday, and had cut off Mr. Zoomzeman's great-great grandfather's sixth leg. The Night Fairy banished the thief to the Moon as punishment, but he took the leg with him, causing later generations of the Zoomzeman family to have only five legs. So Mr. Zoomzeman must search for two good children who never harmed any creature, until he found Peter and Anneli.

Now I didn't know the movie was based on a children's book. But fortunately there was copy of the book translated in English. So I ordered it online and I read it. Now it is one of my favorite children's books. Anyway, all I have to say is that this movie is another animated favorite and I really wish it was on DVD.

A Thanksgiving favorite and must-see for Rankin/Bass fans
12 October 2020
I was looking for other good Thanksgiving specials to be favorites. I came across this one from none other then Rankin/Bass. I manage to order a copy (on VHS that is), and after I'd watched it I know it is another must-see and favorite from Rankin/Bass.

There is not much to tell about the story except it is the story of the Mayflower voyage from the point of view of a church mouse Willum. I love though that are trace of Longfellow's "The Courtship of Miles Standish;" that's one of my favorite poems. Another thing I love about this special is that one of my favorite anime studios Toei Animation helped out with the animation. Believe it or not the key animation was done by the great Hayao Miyazaki, who started out at Toei; I looked it up on Wikipedia.

So overall, "Mouse on the Mayflower" is another Thanksgiving favorite and must-see for other Rankin/Bass fans.

A good Thanksgiving TV special from the man who gave us Alf
7 October 2020
I was looking for other good Thanksgiving TV specials, until I found on YouTube (thanks goodness) this live-action special with puppetry by the man who gave us the TV character Alf. After watching it, I thought it was a great special, for the young and old, about a group of alley dogs saving a turkey from being Thanksgiving dinner for group of hungry alley cats next door to them.

I also thought they the meaning of Thanksgiving without being out-dated or even corny; that is all I could say. Now this special is one of my favorite Thanksgiving specials, and I really wish it was on DVD.

Another Fantasy Favorite for those are are a twin
14 August 2020
I guess I was drawn to this movie because I'm a twin myself. Despite the 7 out 10 rating, I still like this movie and it's another fantasy favorite that I wish it was on DVD.

The film is about twin sisters named Mara and Mira who were raised as boys for their safety. As babies, the wizard Krona had blessed the twins with magic and strong fighting skills; thus they have become the "two who are one." When the pair's adoptive family gets killed, their quest is to find and destroy the one who had cause the slaughter - Traigon the sorcerer. Aiding them are the Viking Baldar, an unnamed saytr and the Barbarian Erlik. That's all I have to say. You will have to watch this movie on Prime Video - if it's still on for you.

I thought it was a little funny that Baldar and Erlik try to explain to the twins that they are girls; and also...the "birds and bees." Anyway as I had said this movie another fantasy favorite that I wish it was on DVD.

A Christmas Favorite from DePatie-Freleng
19 December 2019
This is one of my favorite Christmas TV specials by the animation team who had done the "Pink Panther" cartoons. I vaguely remember watching this special on the channel Teletoon in its early days, and it never cross my mind to tape it. But thank God I recently discovered on YouTube and I watched through my smart TV.

The special is about a bear named Theodore Edward Bear (or Ted .E. Bear) who wanted to know what Christmas is since he was young. Every year he tried to stay awake to see Christmas, since bears sleep through the winter and never see Christmas. So one year despite naysayers who laugh at him and getting fired from his job at the Organic Honey Works plant, Ted sets out to the big city (in the human world) to find Christmas. Will he succeed? well you will have to watch and see what happens. You know in 1983, there is another Ted .E. Bear TV special for Halloween called "The Great Bear Scare." Of course, I didn't know it existed 'til I watched it online, and after that I had thought: "I love this special WAY better."

I really consider this and other Christmas specials, criminally underrated and never seen on TV anymore! I mean the next generation of kids, including my young nephew, should watch these for their Christmas holidays. So anyway, I love every bit of this special, and I really wish it was on a DVD.

Toei has done well again for this series
1 October 2019
This is another animated series I automatically love after searching for anime series to watch; especially series from Toei Animation I love their stuff. I vaguely remembered seeing a snippet of this "magic girl" when it was on YTV and in English. But I don't actually remember when I saw it. I was curious though, so I looked at fan-art and screencaps online and thought: "I wanna watch that show now!" Fortunately when I got my account on Crunchyroll in 2015, I found this series on it, watch it and now it is another "magic girl" favorite; I have thirty-two other favorites.

As I could remember the story goes that two stuffie-like "fairies" had traveled from home world known as the Field of Light and enlist two girls Nagisa Misumi and Honoka Yukishiro, to become the Legendary Warriors of light called Pretty Cure to battle the evil Dark Zone and protect the Field of Light's precious treasure - the Prism Stones.

I must say that Toei had done well again in the magic girl genre. I thought this anime is awesome with humor as well as superb animation (I always say that I know). I love the episode where Honoka's parents came to visit her on her birthday, and the episode where her dog Chutaro made friends with a lost puppy. So despite a couple of characters I really hate (which I don't want to talk about), I love every bit of this series. And I know I would say this but I wish the series in on North American DVD.

A humorous, lighthearted seal story
31 July 2018
Here is another adorable anime series I found on Crunchyroll with an equally adorable, pleasant story about the friendship between a baby spotted seal called Goma-chan and a little boy named Ashibe Ashiya. Another reason I love this series is because I love seals.

Based on a manga serialized in 1988, this story was then adapted into an anime series in 1991. But since I had never seen that anime series, this series is the only version that I now love. I had also heard that the adorable Goma-chan had created a massive following as well as a spotted seal boom.

So all I have to say is that I really love this series with its humorous, lighthearted story and wonderful animation. Also I'd wish the series in on North American DVD.

An Chinese film with superb animation despite flaws
10 May 2018
I came across this animated film on Netflix, and I thought it was great film despite some lines that are lame and Bella Thorne's voice acting is out-of-place (sorry). But the animation is really awesome, which is why I gave the ten out of ten rating.

The story is about two spirit brothers Yulei and Shentu. They are also "Door Gods" that are facing unemployment along with other spirits because the humans no longer believe in spirits in this modern age. After hearing from the now-fired Earth God (Beckett in the dub), Yulei hatches a misguided plan to unleash a demon called the Nian. Despite Shentu's objections Yulei went to the human world to break the three seals to release the Nian. Along the way, he came across a girl named Yu'er (or Raindrop) after saving her from some dogs. Then he handed her a medallion and left to continue on. Yu'er meanwhile was having troubles of her own. She and her mom Xiaoying (Luli) are facing closure of their soup shop and competition with nasty restaurant owner Boss Hu (Mr. Rogman). So that's all I am telling you folks. You will have to see the movie for yourself if you have Netflix.

Anyway, I love every bit of this film with its superb animation and despite the flaws I had mentioned. Also I really wish it was on DVD.

A wonderfully told tragic, Turkish love story
26 April 2018
My first glimpse of Turkish TV was watching my parents watch on Netflix the crime drama "Behzat Ç." Then I got curious about what other Turkish TV series I might find, until I came across this periodic, dramatic miniseries; I love and wish I could own it on DVD.

The series' story take place in the 16th Century in Gence, and it centers around a Muslim prince and Christian girl who fell in love. But their religions kept them apart. That's all I have to say to you fans of period dramas. You would have to see it for yourselves; if you have Netflix that is. You know, after I had watched this series, I thought that fate is a hideous b***h goddess - pardon me. Anyway I think this series has wonderfully told tragic love story.
