This episode's name is "Saul Gone", by which, I think, it means that through salvation, that sleazy and unscrupulous Saul Goodman had finally transformed himself back to Jimmy McGill.
In the brief moment when Jimmy and Walter spent days in that hole, waiting for a clean slate while hiding from the law, Jimmy said with pride about how he put himself through school, and Walt's comment on that, precise as it were, knocked the smile from his face right off. This is my favorite scene, because what Walt had seen in him after everything they had been through, was exactly what his deceased brother used to think of him, which was everything he hated about his brother and himself. And yet at that time, Walt's comment made him realize he had become precisely that.
Through the entire final season, the show has been illustrating what a desperate and pathetic wretch Saul had become, they are all for this final moment, when a few clips were shown about his past and present, namely what he did for his older brother Chuck despite how he was treated by him, and how he spilled his guts at court about his crimes to protect Kim and his brother's name.
I bet not a single audience would say they don't love this character. Was it life that screwed him over or the other way around? Some people are so unfortunate that they pay for their wrongdoings with eternal penance. Life has never treated them fairly and they never stood a chance. But Jimmy McGill smiled at the 86-years sentence, who I imagine, would turn down that initial 7-years plea deal as before in a heart beat were he really allowed to make that decision all over again. He lights that cigarette with ease, standing next to Kim, just like old time, and give her that triumphant grin, signifying his win.
BECAUSE HE FINALLY FOUND PEACE.
