Black Water (2007)

Poor Barry
25 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When Barry got back he would have realised that a boat and an emoyee were missing, and that there was a new car parked outside. Maybe even an entry in the ledger, money paid or owing for the trip. He'd have been worried when no one came back, and even more so after the storm. Sending out a search party seems very likely, yet it occurred to none of the main characters. Imagine Barry's utter horror when he discovers how pointlessly they threw their lives away. That's some Darwin Award worthy stupidity right there.

The event that inspired this movie is covered by Mr Ballen on YouTube in a video called 'Never Swim in this Australian River.' It's intense, the real story, and a thousand times better than this movie.

Regarding the complaints about it being woke and too politically correct...

Marvel has been gender swapping characters for decades. Sometimes it's via passing down the mantle, sometimes it's the multiverse or another form of alternate reality. It's not a new thing. It's a fun way to explore characters for a company that understands the public can have a hard time accepting new ones. Easier to write, too.

And as for Sylvie being able to beat up huge guys - she's not human, she's a god.

If you don't like her character that's fair, you're entitled to your opinion. But Marvel is just doing what they've always done.

Promising start!

The first episode has a creepy horror atmosphere (the subtle kind, rather than relying on jump scares), interesting characters and an intriguing premise. It's hard to find good horror nowadays so I'm really looking forward to seeing more and I can't wait for the second episode!

I'll update my rating at the end of the first season, as it's currently based on the first episode alone.

Lethal Weapon (2016–2019)

The gang from Always Sunny would be proud of this glorious remake of the classic 80's movies.

I adored season one. Riggs is a lunatic and a sweetheart and a hilarious, heartbreaking mofo all at once. Murtaugh is such a dad, to Riggs and for his adorable dad jokes. Trish is pure win, I adore Scorsese and even the side characters who only show up for one episode feel like actual people. Epic, over the top action pays full respect to the original movies. That tingly, shivery 'oh no' feeling captured with ominous perfection.

A+ 10/10. Will definitely watch again.
