Lotto 6/66 (2006)
10/10
I Saw Lotto 6/66 and so should you!
11 June 2007
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: "In LOTTO 6/66, a down on his luck Man is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to win a million dollars from a government sponsored lottery program. To claim his prize the participant must test the limits of his morality and discover how far into his own personal abyss he's willing to go in order to get rich quick. And so begins a treacherous journey in which nothing is what it seems and the shortcut to untold fortune is paved with blood…"

Lotto 6/66 is a dark, twisted thriller which begs the question:

What Would You Do For A Million Dollars?

I must say that nothing prepared me for how cool this film was going to be!

The film has an ominous undertone throughout and the ending is a pure ode to Stephen King.

In fact, this felt like a Stephen King short story brought to life! The King of Horror would be proud. It has all the tenets of a Stephen King horror story: A down on his luck everyman is presented with a get rich quick scheme but is soon over his head in a devil's bargain which pulls him deeper into the dark corners of the world. The film also had a strong social commentary about how lottery programs target the financially disadvantaged with ridiculous prize packages and dares to ask how far we would go to become rich quick.

The acting is great...in fact Peter Miller (the lead) gives a subtle, virtually silent performance. It's an effective performance and the film is lushly shot and directed for maximum mounting tension. Tension abounds everywhere and the ending is killer...to say the least. One of the death's in the film is so unexpected it's guaranteed to make mother's-to-be cringe across the board.

Lotto 6/66 is a terrifying thriller that doesn't waste a second.

See it if you can.
