The first season was absolutely amazing! I rarely write reviews, but I loved season 1 so much! Real professionals, skilled and imaginative, from different parts of the works, hence different perspectives on style and aesthetics. I loved Minju and Charlie, such talents they are!
The judges from season 1 were professionals from the industry that knew about design and construction and had constructive criticism to offer.
I was so excited for season 2. And then Gigi Hadid started screeching constantly. What a difference from Alexa Chung's wit and sophistication.
They completely Americanise a perfectly good show. Drama in every episode. It's not about design anymore. All participants are American, so their visions are similar. Most are young and inexperienced.
But the worst part is the clear favouritism for a grown woman acting like a 6-year-old (yeah Amari). How on earth this person got so far with uninspiring and badly made designs is beyond my understanding. Zero creativity and professionalism.
Also, the judges are mostly models and people that don't design or make clothes. Why should I care about their opinion about design? What exactly do they bring to this particular conversation?
I just finished season 2, and I'm so shocked! They really sent home amazing designers like Megan, James and Desyree. It's a travesty!
(Not even going to discuss how they decided to do a childhood-inspired episode with a trans contestant, have some heart people!)
