The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
This movie is perfect but for one thing
This movie is incredible. The direction, the screenplay, the dialogue and the performances by the main actors really make this a special movie. However its main strong point is obviously the character of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played impecabilly by Anthony Hopkins. Unfortunately, in my mind, the quality of the scenes where Hannibal Lecter is present really make all the other scenes of the movie( or at least most of them) seem bad by comparisson. If Lecter would have had just a little more screen time, this movie would have been pretty much flawless. This movie's greatest weakness is not entirely playing to its strengths. Nevertheless this is an amazing movie by any possible margin.
The Green Mile (1999)
This movie is truely great. Incredibly emotional, this is the definition of an emotional roller coaster. It is a comedy, but it is also a drama. A fantasy, but also a tragedy. It is impossible to lock this movie down to a genre, and that's what makes it better, and arguably the best movie of 1999, ahead of Fight Club and Matrix.
Despite its incredibly original theme and message, the green mile also has an amazing cast, with Tom Hanks playing one of his more underrated roles, while Michael Clarke Duncan reaches the height of his career playing the massive, but kind and gentle John Coffey, a character with an incredible story and who truly is the beating heart of the movie.
There are some issues that i have with this movie, mainly the run time, which feels extremly long, and also the character of Percy. Like the very existence of this character, who doesn't serve much of a purpose in a logical sense, and seems to only be there to bump up the movie's running time.
With that being said, the green mile is still an incredibly well made movie, and it gets a 9/10 from me
Best animated movie i have watched
I never thought an animated movie could deserve a 9 rating. Not because animated movies are inheritly bad, however, when put head to head with an artistic movie, most animated features just can't quite hold their own. That's what i thought until i came upon "Up". The message of this movie is so strong, so true, so pinpoint. It is also so funny, the direction is amazing. Everything about this movie is amazing, and I can't wait to watch it again.
The Tudors: Destiny and Fortune (2008)
Best episode so far
Having watched the first 2 seasons of the series, i can safely say this has been the best episode so far. The amazing acting from natalie dormer, brilliant directing, perfectly emphasizing all the defining traits of the main characters, and of course, the just, but somewhat heartbreaking conclusion to what has been the main plot of the show for the second season, and the second half of the first season
If you like good acting, epic visual and audio effects and medieval battles, than vikings is the show for you. The first 3 seasons also have amazing writing. The quality kind of drops in season 4, and while there are a few episodes throughout seasons 4, 5 and especially 6 that are incredibly good, the consistency in quality is down from the first three seasons.
Vikings: The Last Act (2020)
Only one problem with this ending
Ingrid as queen of kattegat? REALLY?!?! Is that the best they could do? Instead of having Hvitserk or even Ubbe return and rule they made a character with like what, 10 appearances in the ENTIRE show become queen? Come on writers, you are better than this
Goodfellas is the perfect mix of a really great movie, with very few flaws and great acting, details and storytelling, and a really entertaining and enjoyable movie, easily watchable by most people
Worst show ever
I have seen many awful shows, but this has to be the worst ever. The acting is awful, the plot is horrible, I honestly can't find a thing that I actually liked in this show. I cringed out every 5 minutes, this portrayal of vikings is unbelievably inaccurate and cringe. Don't watch this show, you will masively regret it
It may be over 3 hours long, the characters may have little depth, and the ending may be predictable, but every time I watch it, I am impressed. This is simply one of the greatest films ever, and it's all because of the plot. Filled with brilliant moments, I have never watched a movie with that much interest. It's simply brilliant. Brilliantly shot, brilliant battles, every scene is important in its own way. The characters are easy to love, and it's easy for us to understand why this masterpiece has won 11 academy awards. I am not even going to talk about the music, the perfect brightness, the incredible setting and special effects. Film critics will say it's not the same level with the godfather 2, or citizen kane, or casablanca, or God knows what other old film, but for me, and most of the people I know, this is the best, most entertaining film, if not necessarily the greatest.
Schindler's List (1993)
One of the best
Everything about this film is great. The acting is brilliant, the story very detailed and catchy, every scene is so well shot and edited. Two things stand out for me though. Firstly, the characters. Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth aren't only brilliantly presented in antithesis, and incredibly well created and featured. They are so much more than that. They both are complex and complete characters and human beings, and although one is essentially the hero, and the other one the bad guy, their complexity and character presentation in one of the darkest periods of human history is absolutely top-notch. Secondly, the ending. It was so brilliant in every way possible. It was heartbreaking, but at the same time when you saw all the jews walking and singing and amon goeth being hanged you just got a sence of happiness and justice. This is without a doubt one of the greates movie ever, and, for me i would go as far as saying this is my favourite movie of all time, maybe alongside the lord of the rings trilogy
