Dororo (2019)
Simple overrated story
I don't think that Dororo had an impact on me at all. The Story was basic and predictable and I had absolutely no emotional bond to the characters. I don't really see, why this series gets so much hype. Its overrated and mid.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
Beautiful anti-war film
This is one of the most realistic animated movies I've ever seen, because its based on a true story. The main characters, two siblings, were great and rational characters for their age. I think everyone, who watched over a younger sibling can feel/understand Seita and his struggles, while caring over Setsuko in the absence of their parents. But the siblings haven't had only tough phases in this cruel world (for incident discovering the body at the beach), but also pleasant moments, which shows, that they are still kids.
It's an absolutely great film, which is almost a 10/10 for me.
Alien (1979)
Classic from 1979
Technically it was a great film. The cinematography was far ahead of it's time, but the story was kinda mid. It was very stereotypical and predictable for our time. The plot was confusing at a lot of scenes as well. The characters weren't something special and pretty forgetable, too.
I have to say that I don't really like horror movies, but this one was still good.
So all in all it was a good film, maybe a bit overrated.
Hunter x Hunter (2011)
Join the journey
Hunter X Hunter might not have the best story or protagonist, but it has other critic points, which makes this anime so amazing.
The story starts pretty slow with the young Gon, whose father left to get some milk from the store. His dream is to become a so called Hunter, which is basically an adventurer, and find his father. On his way he meets his new best friends Killua, Leorio and Kurapika.
This is where the show becomes great, because the dynamics between the characters are one of the best I've seen. This makes even "boring" arcs like "Zoldyck Family" and "Greed Island" great, because the characters I love take part in it.
When I reached the Chimera Ant Arc (CA-Arc) I was a bit sceptical, because I heard a lot of great things about it and was confronted with the really slow pacing (nothing compared to One Piece tho). But when Meruem was introduced the Arc became an absolute masterpiece. But the best moments of the series were definetely at the end of the CA-Arc. I particularly liked the controversity in the fight between humanity and the Chimera Ants and the fact that humans became inhumane to defeat the monsters, who became humane.
All in all Hunter X Hunter is one of the best Shounen in existance and has one of the best plots in anime history. Sadly it has no real ending and probably won't continue due to the mangakas health.
Oldeuboi (2003)
Great Korean revenge thriller
Awesome movie with great cinematography, plot, characters and twists, but I'd say it's not for everyone, beacuse it's pretty dark and has a lot of rough scenes, e.g. A squid which is eaten alive.
I recently read the manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi and I think, that Park Chan-Wook did a great job out of this mediocre source. The manga is like a 6/10, because the pacing was very slow, the fight scenes weren't as good as in the movie, and the final plot "twist" was boring. I liked, that the dialogues were better, it filled a few little plottholes and clarified a few things of the movie, which were kinda complicated.
I recommend reading the manga before watching the movie, but if you only watch the movie you won't miss anything.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
Hachi: A heartwarming Dog's Tale
Its not just a movie about the relationship of a dog and its owner. It's a wonderful written story, which i felt through my screen. The emotions i felt went directly into my heart and I'm not embarassed to say, that i cried like a baby during the film (like the most people i think).
Mononoke-hime (1997)
My favourite Studio Ghibli movie
Princess Mononoke has a fantastic story about Ashitaka, a young man in the muromachi period, who gets banned from his village because of a curse. Of course he wants to get rid of it and goes on a journey to find its origin. He finds himself in the middle of a war between a human tribe, who wants to advance in science and build a caste to defend themselves against "wild" animals and the samurai, and those animals of the nearby forest. But Ashitaka doesn't want to choose one side. He wishes for peace between the human beings and the animals.
This movie is great because of its story about pacifism and environmental protection. Furthermore the characters are amazing, especially the MC Ashitaka. That's why i prefer this film over Sprited away and Grave of the fireflies.
Paths of Glory (1957)
One of the best anti-war movies
This film by Stanley Kubrick is an absolute masterpiece. It's about a total unnecessary battle in WW1. It has a strong message about the nonsense of war and waste of human life. Furthermore the characters were great and the pacing was good. I have nothing to complain.
