13 Reasons Why (2017)
Great start, but overstayed too long
This series was probably one of the first shows I've watched on Netflix.
The first season had flaws, but at least the story made somewhat more sense compared to the last season which was following too many characters including newly added ones. Season one was easier to follow because it showed a chained domino effect from one person to another. All the internal struggles and bad decisions people make does make us audience reflect on our own decisions. The soundtrack was very good with timing and suited the mood of the scenes.
The flashback scenes and transitions were pretty smooth, but I think they may have overdid the saturation in season 2.
I believe the show should have ended in season 2 when Hannah's arc was completed. The last season in particular seemed to dramatize characters actions and the story started to become warped leaving little room to connect with the viewers. The remaining seasons did try to show the aftermaths of the remaining characters, but the pacing and story direction started to lose the meaning behind the title "13 reasons why".
Overall, I still found Minette's performance to be convincing and most of the cast did their best with the given material.
The snake that eats its own tail, forever and ever.
If you pay close attention to the story pattern, it tends to become predictable.
I gotta say holy heck! That ending felt so eerie-brilliant performance from the cast. I saw a 9 min highlight of this film on youtube and had to check it out!
On another note, I felt so bad for Jane. Heck, any sane person would definitely go insane with how she's lived her life.
The Prom (2020)
It was okay
Found the song "Dance with you" on YouTube
Haven't watched a musical film in a while, and it was a nice casual binge.
I wish there were more screen time for Emma and Alyssa, so there would be more build-up. I couldn't get too invested in the pair because we're more focused on the celeb characters.
It was nice to see different sides and realistic character arc, especially with James Corden's character.
Decent action, but bland plot
The action choreography was decent, but the story didn't quite keep me interested. While the action was there it didn't quite mix well with the MC's family drama. It felt like I was watching two separate films combined in one.
Diana Silvers was underused in this film. If there's a sequel, I would love to see more of her character.
Nice casual watch!
That bloody bat giving me a jumpscare from the beginning to end lmfao.
Loved the world-building and gore take on the story concept!
Tiny Pretty Things (2020)
Interesting concept, but bad execution
This took 2 days to finish binge-watching.
The series is definitely trying to target teen viewers, but there is a lot of explicit scenes and sensitive topics. One character had a internal struggle, but it wasn't explored much which I found to be a waste.
The story concept barely kept me going through the unlikeable characters (except Shane and Selena).and rushed story direction. A lot of the character interactions felt inconsistent and some of the relationships formed seemed too rushed and made no sense.
Many of the story directions had a similar tone to Riverdale and 13 reasons why except made into a dance setting.
The dance and soundtrack were the best parts of the series.
The last episode hints at a season 2, but not sure if it'll keep me interested.
