Stellar performances, Feels good while watching, but...
An engaging movie, that keeps you watching and holds your attention. A real-life "inception" where this movie is a movie about Mr Rogers telling a story and unraveling Lloyd Vogel, who is a journalist who is telling a story and unraveling Lloyd Vogel. I got a kick out of it (I'm easily amused).
But it has some real kindness and gentleness that was very good to watch, especially since kindness and forgiveness comes to a man who doesn't deserve it, imo (Jerry), and when it does come to him, even I, a biased unforgiving viewer, is okay with it.
Definitely a movie that uplifts the mood, yet somehow, left me with a sense of shallowness that makes me not very impressed once I've turned off the screen. I'm unconvinced that Lloyd has changed or that he won't make some grueling mistakes with Gavin himself.
Lloyd doesn't feel like he was able to resolve things with himself but it felt more like Mr Rogers would like Lloyd to have resolved things with himself.
Or maybe intentional?
Dil Bechara (2020)
Directionless, No saving grace
Like most other people, I only watched this movie to find some closure because the death of Sushant Singh Rajput had left a deep impact, especially with all the controversy surrounding it.
This movie was so horribly directed and edited, though, that it dampened my whole sadness over SSR's passing and yeah, in that way, it kind of worked?
Sanjana's acting was horrible as well and SSR tried to act his best given the kind of character he was asked to portray but the whole script was just too weak for any actor to save.
Picking up a Western story and imposing it on the Indian scenario with no modifications resulted in a sloppy movie I couldn't connect with as an Indian viewer. To start with, they make no mention of the backbreaking cost of cancer treatment in India. If one is trying to make a "realistic" movie, you can't just blindside the most important, glaring facts about it.
The characters end up being completely non-relatable and consequently, very dull. You're left feeling very dissatisfied at the end of a horrible movie.
I'm sure if SSR had lived the life that he deserved, this would be one of those movies that he laughed about 10 years down the line and write it off as a mistake. I'm very heartbroken thinking about how that is never going to happen.
The Last Full Measure (2019)
a very underrated movie. definitely a good watch!
I was skeptical about watching this movie because it isn't as highly rated and it isn't talked about as much. But I took a chance and it was a very, very rewarding experience. There are a lot of movies that look promising and disappoint by the halfway mark.
However, TLFM starts off good and just gets better. All acting is on point, the story has been told in a very engaging, touching manner. You really get "into" the story and want to watch more. And personally, I was moved to tears multiple times during watching the movie. So yeah, this movie cannot be missed. And I loved it even more because there are so many underwhelming movies out there right now. Look good and provide a terrible viewing experience. This movie was just the opposite for me. It didn't look /very/ promising (war, medals?), but there was a story and it was a very well told story. Congratulations to everyone on the project! You did an excellent job and deserve much, much more recognition!
Angrezi Medium (2020)
Very disappointing and incoherent movie. Did not expect it to be this bad.
With the cast and the trailer, I did not expect this movie to be this bad. It is one of the worst, most rambling, incoherent cingefest of a movie ever. The movie cannot decide whether it wants to be a comedy, slice of life or drama and as a result, it is all over the place. Very surprising how Radhika Madan even passed the auditions because her bad acting makes the whole movie even more terrible. Too many unnecessary scenes - the editors skipped their jobs, apparently. Just watch the trailer and skip the movie. The one point is for the marketing which got me to waste my time, money and mental health to watch this disaster. Skip this one for sure!
