From the team that brought "Damages", employed here are similar tactics - tantalizing flashbacks and flashforwards, from the outset viewers left in no doubt of a devastating climax. Such devices worked well in the other show. This time they are less effective, especially when occurring in semi-darkness. Some may find they simply confuse and frustrate. Also they may feel that, except for Ben Mendelsohn as Danny, the Rayburns generally lack charisma, it hard to care much what happens to them.
