Who's the daddy?
31 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
While the acting isn't dreadful, and the film is entertaining, I don't think I've ever seen a movie so directly copied from another film. Did the writer/director really think no one has seen the 1979 British film "Scum". The entire story line is stolen from this film, the feel of the film, the grittiness, the bullies, the new boy taking control of the prison from the bullies, the rape, the deaths, and to the final scene in the canteen which was so obviously stolen from the original film it beggars belief.

Do yourself a favour and watch the British film with Ray Winstone, "Scum" is the title...a far superior film, and at the very least original...shame on the writer/director of this film! I hope he gets sued!

Paranoid drivel

What a shame, looked promising until the 9/11 conspiracy stuff came up, all of the "facts" it presents have been easily disproved many times over, but these nutters just keep on adding fantasy upon fantasy to try and make their story stick. I find it difficult to fathom the mind set of a conspiracy nut, they obviously suffer from paranoia, and feel the need for everyone else to suffer from paranoia also, perhaps this makes themselves feel a little better. Actually I can't stand conspiracy theorists anymore, it's like trying to argue with a religious zealot. The worst thing they do is to try and remove the blame from the scum that committed those terrible acts and try to blame others.

And then it dawns on you that all the other "facts" this film presents are most likely as poorly researched and disingenuous as the 9/11 conspiracy rantings. I wonder did the film maker even know what he was pushing was a pack of lies, did he really care? I mean there is so much money to be made in this conspiracy rubbish, why not make a movie full of lies and present it as the truth.

The truth about 9/11 is within easy reach if you want it, if you want to believe in a conspiracy, then you will see it everywhere you look. I don't trust governments unequivocally, I'm not naive, but just take a look at the conspiracy debunking information and they easily show just how ridiculous the claim that the U.S. government was behind it is.

Fantastic British drama

Well thank goodness the reviewer "howTVshouldbe" doesn't have a say in how TV should be, quite frankly though an American calling this series "a dud" can only be a ringing endorsement for how good this show is.

Mcgovern has done it again, with a breathtakingly honest and sometimes brutal portrayal of the lives of ordinary people in an ordinary town. I found each episode absolutely compelling viewing. I did not find it overly depressing at all, many of the episodes are very heart warming with satisfying endings.

I especially like episode 2 & 3. Broadbent is excellent as a disillusioned man finding himself suddenly retired.

I thoroughly recommend this series to anyone that likes a well written, gritty, British drama.
