I was looking forward to this episode due to the reviews here. I believe the writers should have named this episode, 'I've seen this movie too many times".
This is a premise that has been used many times in sitcoms. Controlling new girl friend who has a life planned out for the boy friend. This could have worked but you need a "fresh" twist on the premise. (Pun intended). Sadly there was no "fresh" in this episode of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Jokes fell flat and it has been done much better in other shows.
For me this was the weakest Season 1 episode with the exception of the two part flashback episode. JMHO.

There's obviously a method to the madness of the creators of this mini-series. While there is footage from the 90's and many pop culture examples in every episode....it would seem the episodes are merely vessels to push a revisionist ideology. If you "missed" the 90's you may be inclined to think this is accurate.
My introduction into the 80's & 90's was initially from my parents as I didn't hatch until the new millennium. From reading magazines, watching TV show, etc...all from the 90's, I thought I had a bit of an understanding of the 90's. I'm 7 episodes in and every episode seems to contradict my vision of the 90's. People other than yours truly have verified my suspicions.
This is without a doubt extremely revisionist and is a platform for the creators of the show to show "marginalized" groups that really were not at all relevant.
Personally I'd rather see a show focused on the 90's rather than pushing various ideologies. Only 3 episodes to go.
I gave 3 stars due to some of the footage that was well presented.
