It Chapter Two (2019)
First off, I want to say I really enjoyed the first movie. I loved the chemistry between the child actors and the fact they dialed up the horror factor a good bit compared to the corny 90's miniseries. This movie though was such a disappointment!
Coming off the huge success of part 1. I'm baffled how they managed to drop the ball so badly with this one. Part 2 was never going to be better than the first, but something on par was expected. The film's plot just feels silly at times. Mainly because that actor chemistry we saw in part 1 is nowhere to be seen and there is just TOO much reliance on CGI here. Both of those things kept pulling me out of the story as the film went on. The ending was quite pathetic to be honest. Belittling and calling the big bad antagonist killer clown names until he shrinks.. who knew he was such a delicate snowflake all along! Who actually thought this was a strong ending and okayed this crap?
I applaud some of the casting of the adult loser club. Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, James Ransone as Eddie and Bil Hader, who was a decent choice for Richie (can't fake cry to save himself though). However some of the casting was just naff. Jessica Chastain as Beverly didn't do it for me at all, the performance was flat and bland. Jay Ryan as Ben, only thing young and old Ben had in common is the character name. Not a bad performance, just an odd casting. Last but not least James McAvoy.. usually a phenomenal actor, this wasn't a good performance from him. I'm a Scot myself and a big fan of his other work. His accent was all over the place in this one, not to mention the stutter.
I expected better.
Part 1 - 8/10. Part 2 - 5/10.
Schitt's Creek (2015)
Started good. Then got too campy and tedious fast.
The first few episodes showcase the potential this show had to be great! The cast for the most part is fantastic. Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara are superb together and are the backbone of the series. Annie Murphy is a joy to watch and her character is annoyingly very funny and Chris Elliott is always entertaining.
The problem with the show is the writing. The episodes are very predictable and hard to watch at times due to them being catered more towards the lgbtq community. One minute you're chuckling at some of the gags and enjoying the chemistry between certain actors, next you're feeling forced into watching a teen relationship drama with actors who are closer to 40 with campy secondary storylines that would be better suited to episodes of Glee. Also, For such a tiny town there sure seems to be a lot of queer people.. I guess that's just a coincidence though, not just lazy writing..
By far the worst thing about this series is the "actor" Dan Levy. I had never heard of him before watching Schitt's Creek and it's safe to say I will not be watching anything with him in it again. His attempt at acting is cringeworthy and irritating to say the least. Clearly only in the show due to being Eugene Levy's son.
5/10 for me. Could've been so much better. Also, once again we're seeing a show that would've been better ending on a high note after 2-3 seasons. Instead it looks like they're doing the typical American tv thing and dragging it out until it's truly milked. After all, more is more.. right?
Another indecisive movie to forget in a week
This was a film that had the potential to stand out from the rest of the "Netflix Original" filler. Sadly much like those other forgettable titles it couldn't decide what it's own genre was. One minute it's a revenge movie full of attitude and violence next it's campy, flamboyant and cringe inducing. So much so that it's distracting and difficult to get hooked back into the story.
The plot was decent for what it was.. but the editing and navigation to get from a-b was all over the place.
Mads Mikkelsen was the only consistent thing about the film, his character was interesting and he played the part well. Unfortunately this film was severely hindered with bad acting by Fei Ren, Ruby O. Fee and worst of all.. Matt Lucas (what were they thinking).
Hopefully I never have the displeasure to witness Matt Lucas attempt to "act" again.
GLOW: The Good Twin (2018)
Worst episode so far
What a waste of time this episode was. I've enjoyed every other episode up to now until I watched " The Good Twin", what the hell was that..
I'm a huge fan of wrestling, less so when it comes to watching cheesy promos and soap opera acting. This episode dialed the cringe to 11 and it was just off putting and felt forced. I couldn't watch the musical segments without scowling at the tv in disgust. If the original GLOW was this awful it is no wonder it wasn't taken seriously.
I feel I've been generous with my rating considering how good the episodes have been up until this low point. I tune in to watch the wrestling and watch the characters develop, not sing and dance for the entire time like an episode of Glee or some other garbage chick show. Awful episode.
What the hell went wrong?
After watching the first two Alien films and thoroughly enjoying them I decided to watch Alien 3 for the first time, it was the special edition version not the theatrical version and I've got to say im really disappointed. About halfway through the film I found myself annoyed and bored to be honest. Considering the first two films and Prometheus kept me on the edge of my seat it begs the question, what the hell went wrong???
I thought Weaver and Dance were fantastic but the story was garbage, their performances weren't enough to keep me entertained throughout this disjointed mess. I was baffled as to why they felt the need to kill off 3 of the main characters at the beginning. The bad CGI was really off putting, it was terrible in fact considering ghostbusters (1984) had better effects despite having a much lower budget and coming out 8 years prior.
This film felt really rushed to me and half completed.I can't help but wonder what Scott or Cameron's version on Alien 3 would of turned out like. These are just my opinions but looking at the ratings of the first two Alien films compared to this I get the feeling I'm not the only one that was left disappointed.
About the watch Alien: Resurrection now, I really hope this isn't a case of superman all over again. 2 fantastic films followed by 2 god awful films. Wish me luck
