Better than the book?
20 November 2010
After the 3rd Harry Potter film I found it hard to tell the difference between the latest 3, they all seemed a bit confusing, yet that hasn't stopped me from being first in the line for every Potter film that comes out and this was no exception...

I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows three times, I absolutely loved it! I was prepared to point out loads of missing parts from the new film, and I was wrong. This was utterly fantastic!! They've definitely gone up a notch in terms of quality and acting. As you probably know, the series is drawing to a close which means everything and anything is happening. I'm not going to spoil it but its definitely my favourite so far, every scene in the film was what I imagined in the book which in my case made the film arguably better.

I also want to warn everyone that it is quite scary and there are a few jumpy bits! I'm surprised this isn't rated a 12. (Lady next to me screamed about a hundred times, I wanted to pour my popcorn over her head)

Creepy and deeply disturbing...
21 October 2010
Me and my friend went to see this in the cinema today, since it was only a preview the cinema was packed! This I thought would make the experience more enjoyable... I was wrong.

Literally through-out the whole film there were people screaming when one of the actors in the film would open the front door, it was jumpy but it was very off putting with people chewing, talking and even laughing at bits in the film, we're all entitled to our own opinion but it really ruined the experience... Just when everything falls silent you get ready for something and then the people behind you go "I'm scared" or "Oh my, look the DOOR IS OPENING", yes we can see for ourselves but shh! I suggest you see it in the cinema as the quality and visual impact of the film is terrifying, but perhaps at a later date when it is quieter and less crowded.

The original created more of an impact because it was different, in this film we knew what to expect but that was covered up with a different storyline and a few extra jumpy moments.

Superb acting in the film, it was too life-like in some cases that took away that cinematic effect making it all too weird and disturbing...

I think the idea that not knowing what was going on a lot of the time was scarier...

Not a miss for horror fans!

I enjoyed it
20 November 2009
As a 17 year old boy, I knew this would be the sort of thing girls would talk about for the rest of the school year but I had to see it for myself as a really enjoyed Twilight and in my school its kind of compulsory to like this...

After 2 and a half hours, I left feeling satsified with this film, if not more. Since I haven't read the book there were parts when I didn't know what the hell was going on, but I usually just guessed what happened really as most of the time its pretty obvious.

I've never been so annoyed with a character in all my life, I wanted to slap Kirsten at some points of the film! I was really annoyed they chucked in way too much of Bella's depression, it was really boring but I guess it really paid off in the long run. Robert Pattison was a slight outcast in the film with the main story set on Bella and Jacobs relationship. we see ourselves forcing to choose sides between the Vampires and the Werewolves! (Werewolves for me, I find the Vampires are way too stiff and spend a lot of the time pouting).

Aside from some obvious make-up used in the film this really beats some of the Harry Potter films by miles...

Oh & what a treat to see Dakota Fanning!

Jaws 3-D (1983)

I understand why this looks bad...
14 September 2009
When Florida opens Sea World, it becomes home to more than just dolphins and turtles. An angry great white shark breaks in to the lagoon to search for its killed baby, however it rages up attacking tourists and disrupting the parks opening day.

The film had a great set to work from and a great story but there's no chemistry with bad actors and lame special effects. Compared to the second film its a huge step up, I don't know whether anyone expected another story set ashore in Amity village, its nice to see the writers thought up some fresh ideas.

The underwater sequences at the start and towards the end where the sharks swimming through the gate into the lagoon, i was pretty freaked out despite the fact it looked freakishly fake. I can understand it might have been a huge it in the 80's, especially because it was in 3-D, but today its definitely lost its appeal..

however I recommend this to every Jaws fan.

The Sims 3 (2009 Video Game)
6/10
Nothings improved but the graphics
24 July 2009
The Sims 3 was one of the most anticipated games ever, I cant say that it has paid off all that well.

For the first 10 days I was totally glued to it, I think my computer saw more of me than anyone else. After that I practically mastered the game by building a dream home, achieving life-long wishes, getting married and having children (certainly got me hooked). Despite all of that its difficult to do things as your Sim needs food, comfort, rest and entertainment constantly...

To be honest, I consider myself lucky for being able to play this game, I know that out of 5 of my friends who bought this, only 2 can play it because it uses up sooooo much space on your computer so beware!!!

Its definitely worth it but the screen-shots and trailers make it look like you can do absolutely everything (and although it seems like you can such as getting a job, you don't actually see anything apart from the bar at the top of your screen telling you what your Sim is doing)

I say this every year...
16 July 2009
I say this every year but this was definitely the best Potter film yet. I've read the book twice so it was easy for me to pick up on the mistakes, added scenes and the ones they left out, despite all of that it made a summer blockbuster.

Thinking back to the first couple of films, you sort of think to yourself how much this one has changed. They managed to include a bit of everything like Qudditch, day-to-day lessons, confrontations... you get the picture. I wont spoil it for you but there's lots of surprises in store. Harry is asked by Dumbledore to become chummy with new potions master Slughorn in order for him to spill the beans on a conversation he had with a younger Voldemort (Tom Riddle), of course by the time they start piecing things together, things get a lot worse thanks to Draco who has been given a little chore to do by Voldemort himself...

And again you'll come out wanting to be a wizard, wanted to see the next film and wanted to read the books all over...

Tense, Terrific, Tearful...
6 July 2009
Im usually dragged to see films I don't like, but yet again I was overcome by how the performance of this film was well paced.

I couldn't believe how well the actors played their characters, you usually get side-tracked by silly mistakes but there wasn't the least down-side to this movie apart from the actually story...

I was unsure to whether Cameron Diaz was suitable for such a role in this film, but she rose above my expectations, considering the performance of the other actors I couldn't be particular about whom was the best.

Definitely worth watching, although I didn't cry (And I don't in most films anyway) a had a lump in my throat... This is a film to be grateful of what you have...

Silent Hill: Homecoming (2008 Video Game)

Silent Hill: Homecoming (PC experience)
3 March 2009
The majority of Silent Hill: Homecoming is based in Shepards Glen which is a very risky idea. I found it was more interesting discovering how a second town was rapidly descending to the nightmarish underworld of Silent Hill...

I bought this on PC format for the purpose of my new laptop and I have to say I really enjoyed playing it. Despite some very long loading times between levels & scenes it was quite easy to control, although as much enability you are given to explore the town its too freaky to go of wandering. The monsters are freaky as ever, there are many ways to attack, dodge and tackle them and as you progress through the game its more clear how they behave.

I know most people compare this to Resident Evil but this is what makes your skin crawl...

Amityville 3: The Demon... What Demon?
18 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Amityville got worse... a whole lot worse.

I watched this film on TV yesterday, funny enough i was studying the Amityville Horror for my art project. It seemed a pretty good opportunity for me to catch up on some of the film references, but everything was completely fictional and trashy...

It was weird seeing the house for the third time now, pretty surprised they managed to grab hold of it but thats the only pro in the movie. I don't know whether they had limited resources or something but nothing actually happened in this movie...

Fairly good storyline but where was the horror in this? i know this is 3-D movie but without the glasses your just watching a bunch of crap flying at your eyes, even that wears off after a while...

The best part was actually the last 15 minutes, considering the film is only an hour and a half I expected the flipping house to blow up! And whats with the demon? we saw a weird swamp creature for a split three seconds, yet the title is based around it.

Hardly worth watching...

Compared to the remake, this films amazing!
9 January 2009
The Amityville Horror is one of the most talked-about ghost story's, i just had to see this film especially after watching the remake and being slightly disappointed. I heard this was way better and it was, by all lengths it succeeds a new type of horror. I don't really like cheap monster and gore driven cliché films, thats why i particularly found this film a good watch. Its also spooky knowing this film is a true story, that just gives an eerie suspense through-out. This is a film for people who cant be bothered reading any other the books, it sums up pretty much what happened and with the help of special effects and music, its the perfect horror movie that'll make you jump.

Scream 3 (2000)
7/10
Loved it but got trashy...
26 December 2008
Scream was an original classic, contradicting all the cliché events in horror films throughout the years. Then came the pointless second that mentions the rules to sequel movies. Finally the third, but this was actually worth watching and beats the second by miles! When Stab 3 is in production, writer Gale Weathers is back and bitchier than ever ready to start on book number two of the Woodsboro murders, however the killer returns too in a attempt to confront Sidney and kill her.

The first half of this film is great, but the second half ruins it completely. I would still say this is worth watching, its one of those sequels we've always waited for with a different and better story altogether.

The Simple Life (2003–2007)

The Real Life!
26 December 2008
I remember seeing a TV premiering of the simple life agers ago and whenever i could catch an episode i'd watch it and love it! The Simple Life stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie, two spoilt socialites who embark across America doing manual low-pay work.

My favourite is Paris Hilton, although i preferred her before watching the series, i found Nicole a little too annoying. Seeing them both together is hilarious, its just the little things like seeing a bug erupts world war 3. Although its a little dramatic, its funny seeing how they react to different things. We'd never expect Paris or Nicole to do anything for themselves and thats why its so enjoyable seeing them get their hands muddy.

Its funny most of the time but it can drag on a little bit, maybe a few fresh idea's but its still something you can chill out too.

Series 2 has to be the best, but make sure you get a peek at them all, its very uplifting.

Hoped it was better really...
3 December 2008
I love Jurassic Park and have since i was a kid, i don't know what made it such an adventure to watch but it was a classic and still is to this day. When Jurassic Park 3 was in the cinema, i begged my parents to see it on the first day, at the time it was amazing but now i think about it my opinions changed...

Compared to the first Jurassic Park this films very plan and lacking a good storyline. As Dr.Allen Grant is hired to tour a divorced couple around the island, he is unknowingly being tricked into finding the couples lost son Eric.

Its good to see some of the cast returning but there was no well-known actors for such a famous series. Its lacking the original potential of the first film, especially the unanswered questions we were hoping to hear, i felt as if we were waiting for something that turned out to be nothing...

A shame for the fans but still a good watch.

Saw IV: Pointless gore and nothing more...
3 December 2008
Saw IV continues the story on Jigsaws efforts to teach people the value of their lives and what they can do to survive from his dangerous traps. Previously however Jigsaw died yet his familiars continue his work.

This would seem like a clever film, that fills the gaps like Saw III but it basically fills nothing but our mouths with vomit.

Saw IV contains nothing more than pure blood-shed, despite the occasional police investigation everything seems a bit too morbid and dark...

A little too much this time, bring back the cleverness!

The Others (2001)

Chilling!
1 December 2008
This original period horror is set during World War II where a mother of two make home to an enormous house. Not long into their stay, the mother believes the house is haunted by a family, however a much needed truth is pretty much twisted in a bundle of suspense and mystery...

This film is great for anyone who loves to sit on the edge of their seat although you don't want to sit next to anyone who talks a lot either.

The Others is one of those films where you need to concentrate otherwise you'll miss vital bits, it also ruins the hole mood if somebody's talking. Just make sure you have a pillow in front of you abd something to dig your nails in...

Now i've seen the original, there's no comparison
1 December 2008
I never realised this film was a remake, although it did seem a little loosely based on the actual Amityville horror events. Thats one of the main problems i noted through-out, it doesn't seem like a big deal for someone just expecting a few chills but for the fans it goes over the top and in some cases the events are completely fictional.

The actors are great but their not suited for their roles, and in films based on true story's i think that its really important for them to have some similarity. It doesn't seem like its set in the 70's at all, and another problem is the house itself. I read that they had to make the recreation slightly different from the real house, although when they say slightly they mean the entire concept.

Although all these things might be done to impress us by making it scarier, its less scarier knowing all of these faults, especially when the original was so much better.

Fantastic!
29 November 2008
I saw this film today, and after much excitement to see it i was overcome by how good it actually was! Im not a fan of these sort of period dramas but true story's are usually some of the best and seeing Angelina Jolie taking the main role...

The films set in the 20's where a young mother Christine Collins returns home from work to find her son missing, when the police reunite her with whom they think is her son, Christine takes all action necessary to get her real son back.

There's a lot more to this film than i expected, it was pretty horrible and some points but most of all it was really sad.

I advise anyone to watch it!

Jaws 2 (1978)
4/10
Don't expect any surprises...
9 November 2008
After the success of the original film, there just had to be a Jaws 2.

The storyline consists of similar events in the first film, but with a lot more bloody bits. Chief Brody is faced with another Great white shark lurking in the Aminity beach resort, this time his grown-up sons go boating with there friends where an accident occurs in mid-drift, and all falls apart when Jaws resurfaces.

Although we expected a different story-line, Jaws 2 is basically a cheaper version of the first but with all the clichés like kids screaming "Oh no, a shark!", especially the constant screaming. Its a sequel you'll find disappointing for many reasons and not just because the shark looks a whole lot worse...

Ouch!
9 November 2008
When Ellens son Sean Brody is killed by a great white shark, Michael invites her to stay with him in the Bahamas over Christmas. While Michael undergoes work as a Marine Boiologist, he is confronted with the shark who resurfaces once more...

I was hoping to see a mass improvement after Jaws 3, but the series got a whole lot worse. Normally sequels ruin the aspect of the original film, but I didn't think it was possible with Jaws. Having a giant shark in the water would surely scare anyone, but the only thing lurking in the water for Jaws the revenge, is a bunch of plastic cogs.

There's nothing natural about the shark, it moves too mechanically and even roars, not too mention the indescribable end scene when the shark blows up by getting stabbed by a piece of wood...

Its obvious that this film was a desperate attempt to scare us once more by doing everything and anything possible...

Gave me the creeps
1 November 2008
A bunch of runaway confederate soldiers rob a bank of its gold, where they head to Mexico with their stolen fortune. They find an abandoned mansion to stay in over night but soon is revealed that they are not alone as a series of hauntingly events take place overnight.

This is one of those films that deserves a proper release, it is one of the scariest films I've ever seen although it isn't one of my favourites for many reasons. The film uses many cliché techniques to make us scared, it works but it doesn't make much sense. Its like chucking random bits of scary stories into one, its incomplete and needs more to make it a hit.

Worth a watch if you want to be scared or jugdemental...

Halloween II (1981)

Good Sequel, but needs more
1 November 2008
Halloween 2 continues exactly where the first film left off, Laurie Strode is committed to hospital while Loomis is hot on Myers trail. Trying to find Laurie isn't a mission, Myers just hacks those who stand in his way...

Halloween 2 is a much needed sequel due to many unanswered questions in the first. I still found that the plot needed a little more, they might as well put them both together and make it one big film. Despite the graphical death scenes and pointless characters, Halloween 2 is how the series should have ended.

Make Halloween 2 a one-to-watch for your night in!

Right turn!
29 October 2008
Wrong turn is a great white-knuckle horror with all the scares and secrets that make it as good as it is!

A group of young-adults must fight for there lives against cannibalistic mutants deep in the woods of North America before they get hacked into dog meat. But don't get too attached to the characters because there's no telling when they could fall victim to the mutants.

Its pretty much gross with the gore and all but its so tense to watch, frankly because its believable. I only wish The Hills Have Eyes didn't have a remake because this film tops them all off by far! Perfect for a night with lots of popcorn and a lot of cushions...

Boooooooooooring
29 October 2008
I watched this film on TV as part of the "Halloween season". I had heard from friends that it was worth watching but wow, it was far off worth watching! I haven't seen the original and frankly I don't want to after seeing this rubbish. A teenager is grounded from going to the school Bomb-fire night and is instead forced to babysit in a preferable large and modern house. A good set but it was a waste of time for what it was worth, the acting was terrible and the tension built up for this "stranger" was out of the question. This film uses every possible cliché technique to scare you, so don't expect anything original...

Could have been good but wasn't.

A cheap scare
27 October 2008
Five College graduates spend a weekend at a remote cabin in the heart of the woods where they spend their time celebrating with booze and sex. Due to some unknown disease, the water supply is polluted causing sickness and infection. As each member of the College graduates realise what is going on, they decide whether they should save themselves or wait on their death bed...

Cabin Fever is crying for blood, this is one film that triggers your memory's from all the other cliché horrors. It seems like a good idea, but the fact they used it in this cheap and senseless style, the whole film is ruined.

Spend a weekend with something worth watching, there's nothing your going to gain from this apart from the need to sleep...

Desperation (2006 TV Movie)

Better off reading the book
25 October 2008
Several people fall victim to the town sheriff of Desperation, when they are thrown into a jail cell in the deserted mining town, they must fight for their lives against an ancient supernatural entity.

There is no comparison to the book! The film closely follows the events in the film but I wish it hadn't as much, it seems so confusing and boring that I wanted to re-read the book to check-up on what was going on. Apart from that, there's a lot of stuff missing towards the end that completely ruins it although I would say the whole set for the film is very realistic.

Although the film fails to achieve the things in the book, its still a great piece of horror. It's something worth watching to "relate" your book to, but not something you'd consider buying...
