The Horsemen (1971)
10/10
Fantastic . . . .
6 April 2024
Great Movie . ..captures an intense very macho ...even crazy atmosphere of these Afghan horse riders and their culture .. I know that doesnt sound particularly interesting but believe me it is . . .-sustains the full running time easily ..... The plot is centring around Afghani horse riders participating in a competition called Bouzkashi ....to these men it is everything .. Life and Death ...the Greatest sport on Earth ..and with the 2 characters of Jack Palance and Omar Shariff you really feel it ... -a Very powerful and intense film ..even if you are not a fan of horses it is still a memorable and excellent movie ...10 out of 10 thats not something I would ordinarily give . . . .brilliant movie !

Just doesnt engage ..
6 April 2024
This film just never gets going .. Newman seems like a parody character .. Marvin just goes through the motions ...there is an air of whimsy to the thing that is just out of place ...-in short it just does not work . . . .I would like to know if this was made before or after 'Junior Bonner' with steve mcqueen .not taking into account the official release date .....-seems like an effort to cash in on the formula ...and whereas Mcqueen could pull off the character, Newman just seems like a Big Dummy ..not particularly humorous or engaging as a character ..just dumb ...-this is not a fim remembered by Lee Marvin or Paul Newman fans ,and I can see why ....just doesnt work ..!

...Underneath 'Hippy' appearance ...is a deep story !
12 December 2022
..from what i have read of reviews of this movie , people can not get over the 'hippy' aspect and of course claims of outdatedness etc ...for me this was no problem ...Iwould personally rather watch this than 'modern urban street' culture thats for sure ..-underneath the setting period is a deep story ..with good acting all round...im not a big jack nicholson fan ..but is good here and Dean stockwell is also good! . had me gripped from start to finish and thats the mark of a good movie ...oh and susan strasberg is a little

cutey too .if you enjoyed easy rider then check this out..not quite as shocking but equally entertaining ! I had never encountered this before and its an interesting sub-genre of movies to explore ....a lot more cerebral than todays offerings from hollywood .

Best Carry On out the Lot ..
24 January 2022
This movie really came to my attention when it was repeatedly shown on the Thomas Cook Holiday channel on sky freeview some years ago.....eventually i was aquainted with the whole movie and have grown to see it for the Genius comedy it truly is .....the start is pur classic..setting the scene with Charles Hawtrey (his best performance ) and also a funny turn from the scottish guy. (jimmy logan as bert conway) ..what an unsung hero of british cinema...what a legacy to leave behind . The rest writes itself ...pure comedy ..-double entendre ..but never witless ... always somewhat clever..- and therefore a classic!!! Peter Butterworth's finest hour as well ...definitely one for comedy purists.....You will Love it !!!!

Its a Good one ...
24 January 2022
..although you can definitely see the influence of italian Giallo on this movie this is probably Pete Walkers most accessible mainstreamish movie...one for fans of the Genre(psycho-horror) and non-fans alike ...basically a simple premise with attractive Lyn Fredericks at the core of proceedings . ..lovely Stephanie Beacham in support .....and a couple of other well known british character faces and Locations including Newcastle upon Tyne and you have a 'carry on 'schizo -type of movie ...pretty entertaining , a little bit of nice nudity (always a plus) ..and some decent killings.. quite good to be fair ...so a good movie all in all . ...good actors ...and general 70s british quality! . . . .recommended . . .. ..!

all work and no play ...
10 January 2022
Makes jacks film very very dull ....pretentious boring and dull ....one very weird looking and uncharismatic lead actor (william Tepper ???) and an equally boring bland and tedious actor in the other lead role = a recipe for monotony ...No doubt fans of jack nicko will want to track this down but personally i wouldnt bother !!!! ... just dull ...

Another comedic Gem ....
10 January 2022
Another comedic Gem in an ocean of crap ...This movie is great in its own right , obviously missing sid james , but instead offering up windsor davies and jack douglas ...the boys dont disappoint ..with plenty of messed-up situations and rude humor ! Douglas turn as a clumsy inept moron is a winner ! . .and Elke sommers also delivers a great performance as a russian sexy archaelogist with able support from good old Kenneth williams ...if anyone doesnt like this, theyve got NO sense of humor !!!!! Watch and watch again !

Its not ...its the Best of them all ...enjoy and have a Laugh !

WEIRD , BUT WORTH A WATCH..
6 January 2022
A strange film to be sure ...just when you are expecting a Tough Revenge movie .. it swaps over to improvised comedy Theatre ..which is a touch disjointing to say the least ...To me it seemed as if Howard Hesseman and the Billy Jack character played by Tom Laughlin were in seperate movies ...They never shared a scene together ..maybe the 'improv' was added to Lighten the tone ..and alleviate from what is essentially a pretty depressing storyline - seems that way to me ! ...overall definitely worth a view...although you will definitely say at times ..'This is weird' ...for sure !!!

Awesome..well worth a watch ..

A Good movie ...see ....nuff said! My onl.y gripe with this is the picture quality on the version i saw ..even so the quality shone through .... the plot is 2 young 'hippies' in the 70s embark on a cross-america road trip ....They (and the audience) then learn some harsh and not so harsh lessos on the way ....some nice performances from ensemble actors including Bruce Dern with a career-best ! ...other odd-balls include a weird lady with her child ..etc ...although they dont make movies like this anymore ...thats a shame ...the 70s was the standout era of cinematic quality and this is a prime example ...you learn from the experience.... forget 'netflix' ..this is where its at ....seek out a viewing .

Okay ...
26 December 2021
If you ever happen to see this ...and some do (i did ) its not bad ...probably a lot better and more interesting than the latest garbage about black superheroes or quentin Tarantino masturbation fantasy ... it retained a modicum of interest for run time and had a few memorable scenes ...writing this about 3 weeks after seeing it .. Buster crabbe (flash gordon from 30s serials ) was in it ..but to be honest i didnt know and didnt recognise the guy ...all in all there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half of your life ...has that mid 70s/early 80s appeal that is hard to define ..i enjoyed it ..
