The Savages (2007)

Really Great Film! Great Cast!
7 November 2007
I saw this last night at the Sedona Film Festival. This is a great movie. Although it may be a depressing subject, no one can deny that it is real life. It's one of those odd comforting type movies in that it allows the viewer to relate on a personal level.

The acting is superb. Hoffman and Linny draw you right into their lonely worlds. They deliver a poignant realistic view of adult life after being abandoned as a child. They really compliment each other. I would be happy to see some nominations in the future for this one. I also hope they get to work together again.

It's definitely a must see. Put it on your list.

The Walker (2007)

Horrible Film... Woody Harrelson is a amazing though
29 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The film is bad. There is no other way to say it. The story is weak and outdated, especially for this country. I don't think most people know what a "walker" is or will really care. I felt as if I was watching a movie from the 70's. The subject was just not believable for the year 2007, even being set in DC. I think this rang true for everyone else who watched it too as the applause were low and quick at the end. Most didn't stay for the Q&A either.

I don't think Schrader really thought the film out ahead of time. Many of the scenes seemed to be cut short as if they were never finished or he just didn't know how to finish them. He jumped from one scene to the next and you had to try and figure out or guess what was going on. I really didn't get Woody's (Carter) private life or boyfriend either. What were all the "artistic" male bondage and torture pictures (from Iraq prisons) about? What was he thinking? I think it was his very poor attempt at trying to create this dark private subculture life for Woody's character (Car). It didn't work. It didn't even seem to make sense really.

The only good thing about this film was Woody Harrelson. He played his character (Car) flawlessly. You really did get a great sense of what a "walker" may have been like (say twenty years ago). He was great and most likely will never get recognized for it.

As for Lauren, Lily and Kristin... Boring.

Don't see it! It is painful! Unless you are a true Harrelson fan.

Finally... an intelligent film... Perry is Great!
29 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Just saw this film at the Sedona International Film Festival. It is by far the best film I've seen in a long time. Just what I've been hoping for.. and intelligent film. Matthew Perry is superb! Many thanks to Harris Goldberg for bringing a film that speaks to psychological suffering in such an honest and enjoyable way. Too often films with this kind of subject matter are overdone and painful to watch. This was the opposite. It was thoughtful and a delight to watch. It was graced with just the right amount of strategically placed comedic snippets, (most of which the audience got immediately) that you didn't get the feeling it was going to depress you in the end. Which it didn't. It was true. It know doubt hit home for many in a confirming and not too serious way. We here in Sedona GET IT! Harris was great to listen too at the Q&A as well as Matthew via phone. Two nice guys. It was an intelligent crowd and fun evening.

Just brilliant...Thank You! Hope you come back in February!
