It's not an awful show, but could have been better.
15 August 2021
The show had decent momentum throughout the first season and during the beginning of the 2nd season when Selma Blair was still on the show but seriously lost it's way for a while after she left the show.

Yes, it's yet another show where Charlie Sheen's character is a serial womanizer and most of the other characters around him constantly make questionable choices. If you saw Two and a Half Men you know what to expect here.

Charlie's ex-wife and his daughter basically disappear part of the way through the 2nd season which was a shame. Having them around was part of what helped to tone down Charlie a little and helped give his character some much needed grounding. Once Selma Blair left the show Charlie Goodson was basically replaced by an unhinged Charlie Harper throughout the rest of the series.

If this show had been on a conventional network it probably wouldn't have made it to 50 episodes. Especially considering Charlie Sheen's off-screen antics with regards to Selma Blair. It's worth watching once now if you're a big fan of Charlie Sheen or anyone else on the show or if you need something for background noise.

Dummy (2020)

Would have been better as an indie movie.
30 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First thing first. I did not watch this on Quibi since that service doesn't exist anymore. Having this split up in small parts became annoying pretty quickly.

After watching all 10 parts (each part is too short to be considered an "episode" on their own, more like a scene) I think this would have worked better as an indie movie if it had been fleshed out (no pun intended) further and made to be about 90 minutes.

It's not bad but I doubt this will be remembered in years to come. Anna Kendrick's performance was pretty good. Donal Logue looks awful as Dan Harmon. The part with the robbery was the best followed by the worst part with Cody trying to get a 14 year old boy to have sex with the doll. That just made me shake my head.

There were a few parts I found funny. Despite the subject matter and language I didn't find the show vulgar except for the part with the teenager, that's just wrong!

Like I said before, ultimately few are probably going to remember this in the years to come. Especially since as of right now there's no way to watch it unless you acquire it via a download somewhere. And even when it was available via Quibi I would not want to watch something like this on my phone. It's no surprise that Quibi crashed and burned in less than 6 months!

It's not an awful film but...
26 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really didn't feel for or really care about any of the characters. Outside of the primary plot between Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass's characters almost everyone else seemed like complete filler. Especially all the people that show up for 5-10 lines of dialog and are never seen or heard from again. In particular I disliked Jack Johnson's story arc. He finally hooks up with a woman he had been interested in when he was much younger (while repeatedly lying to his boss,) demands her to completely uproot her life and when she says no he storms out like a toddler who's parent told them no. I understand this movie is supposed to be about love that's lost or otherwise missed but it seemed like the screen writer had the basic plot/story for the movie and then figured out they needed to add about 20-30 minutes worth of additional "stuff" to get the movie up to a still sub 90 minute run time. Objectively this is not a bad movie, but I did find it rather meh on the whole. I mostly watched it because I am a fan of Aubrey Plaza (as well as some others who had cameos) and because Netflix was constantly recommending it to me. Well I watched it once and probably never will again.

Community (2009–2015)

Seasons 1-3 are the best, seasons 4-6 are very uneven.
15 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved season 1-3 of Community but the combination of main characters leaving the show & the strife with it's creator seriously hurt later seasons. While I know there are still fans out there hoping for a movie I personally would only like to see that if ALL of the original cast (except for Chang) are involved.

I will give each season it's own rating and a few notes.

Season 1 - 8. Starts a little slow but quickly finds it legs. Modern Warfare is a classic!

Season 2 - 10. Easily the best season of the show. The 2 paintball episodes that cap the season were genius!

Season 3 - 8. Very good but I had to deduct a point due to the excessive amounts of Chang, he wore out his welcome in this season. I loved Digital Estate Planning and Pillows and Blankets!

Season 4 - 6. Without Dan Harmon the show feels quite "off" but at least all of the original cast is here. Heroic Origins is the highlight of the season! I feel the show could have stopped here with Jeff graduating as it's a natural ending. I wanted to punch Chang/Kevin just about every time he was on screen.

Season 5 - 6. Harmon is back! Pierce is gone and Troy leaves halfway through. The study group now being the "Save Greendale Committee" and Jeff being a teacher doesn't entirely work for me. Without Troy around Abed seems lost for the rest of the series. Geothermal Escapism is the best episode of this season with App Developments and Condiments a close second.

Season 6 - 4. Shirley is also gone. With 3 of the original "Greendale 7" gone the show really suffers. Yes new characters are added but almost everyone seems to just be going through the motions. Modern Espionage is easily the best episode but even it pales in comparison to the paintball episodes from seasons 1 and 2. Several episodes were tough to get through and weren't funny or very enjoyable. Thankfully Chang isn't as annoying as he was in seasons 4 & 5.

I can see why the show had a small but extremely loyal fan base after the first 3 seasons. It's a real shame the last 3 seasons went down like they did as the show deserved better.

Selfie (2014)
6/10
Decent show with a lousy name.
30 November 2020
Karen Gillan's birthday was on Nov 28 and I decided to check this show out. It's not available on any of the streaming services and never received a physical media release (more on that later) so I in order to watch it I had to acquire it via "other" means.

It's a pretty decent show. Unfortunately the name turned a LOT of potential viewers off back in 2014. I'm sure when the show was initially conceived, cast & a pilot was done using the word Selfie sounded like a home run. However, over the course of 2013 & 2014 that word went from being a trendy to a liability. Does anyone remember the song #SELFIE by the Chainsmokers that was popular for a few weeks in the 1st half of 2014? I guessing no since most people purposely forgot about it like a bad hangover. Even before the show premiered it had one big strike against it due to the name.

I'm sure ABC cancelled it so quickly after they did a massive amount of promotion for show, gave it the prime Tuesday evening time slot, and had the 1st episode debut to a little over 5 million viewers which is not great. The 2nd week it dropped by almost 40% and never got any better. There were other shows ABC cancelled that season that averaged more than 5 million viewers per episode so this one never had a chance being significantly less than that on average.

That's a shame because the show itself is enjoyable. The principal actors were mostly well cast. The show was relatively funny but also had a fair amount of heart, especially later on.

Had this show launched with a different name or in the fall of 2013 (when the term selfie wasn't as overused) it might have had a chance to succeed.

I mentioned earlier that watching the show now is very difficult to do. It will probably NEVER see an official release due to one big reason. Licensed music. Almost every episode has one or more licensed songs in it. Anyone who wanted to release it after it's initial TV run would either have to remove all of the licensed music or pay significant royalties. Since the show was cancelled so quickly that means it will probably be lost forever except to those who obtain it via less than traditional means.

The new Anna-Kat doesn't work.
29 October 2020
While I understand Julia Butters supposed decision to seek out other opportunities, I feel it would have been best to just remove her character entirely from the show. Giselle Eisenberg gives it her best but she is just not Anna-Kat. Completely changes the dynamic of the show for the worse which is a real shame. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up sealing the fate of the show this season. Extremely disappointed.

Not a classic like the original but still quite good.
27 August 2020
I grew up watching the original Mary Poppins along with other Disney classics. I can still remember watching them on VHS when they came in the big plastic boxes. That being said the original Mary Poppins is a complete classic. This one wants to be but misses the mark. It's still a fun, good natured affair which is fairly rare in these modern times. I feel that most of the complaints about the movie being too long are from people who used to instant gratification in the media they consume. They expect everything to move at a breakneck pace in order to keep their interest. Not every movie needs to be a maximum of 90 minutes long. The music is good and well orchestrated. The plot is predictable but that was inevitable considering we all know how the original played out. Why would this one be any different? The casting choices were on point. I especially loved to see Dick Van Dyke in his small role. Watching this film at home my 6 year old was interested for about 30 minutes but hardly anything (animated or not) keeps him interested for more than 30-45 minutes and a whole lot of movies he finds boring in 15 minutes or less! The original movie was like catching lightning in a bottle. It's very hard to make that happen twice! However, I really enjoyed this film despite what many other people see as flaws. We need more positive, feel good movies so don't trash the ones that try to bring it.

Poor UK rip off of The Guild
22 August 2020
This show just started showing on The CW in the US. It's basically a poor rip off of The Guild with 10% of the dialogue bleeped out. A show like this would have been somewhat fresh a decade ago but MMOs have been around for over 2 decades. This is just a bunch of people addicted to a game acting horribly to each other and everyone around them. That's not funny, it's sad!

A bad movie that's very enjoyable.
3 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying I was born in the late 70's, my mother was a huge fan of the "big band" sound of the 40's and my dad was a long time fan of ELO so no matter what as a kid I was going to end up seeing this movie at least a couple of times! The movie itself is in many ways as bad as can be. It's obvious the script was a work in progress throughout filming. It's campy as heck. The pacing is all over the place. The Dancin' sequence in the middle in particular was an interesting idea but is far too long and brings the movie to a complete standstill! The movie's release being moved from late 80 to summer 80 while it was still in production really shows. However, in spite of all of that I absolutely love this movie! The soundtrack is fantastic! I have wonderful memories of watching this with my parents as a child and also with them decades late for nostalgia. The animated section set to "Don't Walk Away" helped launch Don Bluth's production company after he left Disney. It's ok to sometimes believe in your dreams, no matter how crazy they may seem. The movie tried to blend the dance/disco culture that in places was quite popular but still wasn't accepted by many people, non-mainstream rock culture with a bit of the 40's look & sound thrown in too. Sure it doesn't mesh super well but it was ambitious. The late 70's and very early 80's were a strange time in both movies & music which is something that many people don't know or have forgotten about. This movie is a bit of a time capsule of that!

Not great but I did enjoy it.
6 July 2020
Is this a movie that everyone needs to go out and see? No. Is it one that I'm probably going to remember for years to come? No Did I enjoy watching it? Yes It's a film that I only checked out on Netflix because I like many of the principal actors involved. Sure it doesn't amount to much in the end and it's not terribly funny but I thought it was decent. Chances are stuff like what happened in the film did actually happen hundreds of years ago! If anything it makes me want to see Brie, Plaza and Micucci do a proper comedy together! Check it out if you want something off the wall and aren't expecting much.

For anyone who's seriously played a MMO it's PERFECT!
2 July 2020
This entire series is a time capsule for me to the late 00's and early 10's. I was a huge MMO player throughout the series original run (07-13.) Plus I was already a huge Felicia Day fan ever since she was in season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So this series was the perfect storm for me. I still end up re-watching it about once a year and I still thoroughly enjoy the heck out of it each time! Highly recommended if you have ever played a MMO or any other online game with about any sort of guild, clan or group based voice chat system that's regularly used.

I enjoyed it a LOT more than I thought I would!
30 June 2020
Sure, this is far from a perfect movie but I still enjoyed the heck out of it. I thought the leads had good chemistry together. It just felt fun to me and lighthearted which is the tone I think the director was going for. This is one of those movies that was made more out of a passion project or just for the heck of it and not meant to be a blockbuster. I can respect that. Not every movie needs to be done in order to make a lot of money or win awards! Is this a movie for serious action or rom-com fans? Probably not. But if you're a fan of mash ups and don't mind the goofiness then you will probably enjoy this movie. :)

At times extremely frustrating to watch.
28 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like the premise of the show and the acting is pretty good.

But I find myself hating most of the main characters especially the man-child Ryan and Ruthie. Ryan spends 5% of the time white knighting and 95% of the time acting like a horny moronic teenager. As mentioned in the wedding episode in season 2 there is a VERY good reason he is not allowed to have any contact with his 14 year old son! Ruthie has obviously been surrounded with people who could not tell her no her entire life so she just spews out or does anything that comes to mind without repercussion.

I'd love for Annie to continue to learn and grow, maybe she needs to relocate to Vancouver for season 3.

At this point I'm only finishing season 2 because there are so few episodes in the entire series so far.

I really miss this show!
18 June 2020
I'll admit this show is not everyone's cup of tea. However, my family and I really enjoyed this show while it was on. It was good quality entertainment for the whole family! I'm glad the show was able to spend the last season wrapping up a lot of the plot lines and was able to give fans of the show a proper ending.

While I'm eager for another show like this to end up on TV I'm doubtful we will ever see something like this show again which is a shame.

Watch until near the end of season 4.
24 April 2020
The show was pretty good up until near the end of season 4. Then the show got way too political. Plus Amy as the store manager is awful! It's not suprise that America Fererra is leaving the show at the end of season 5. The show went pretty good to completely unwatchable fast!

What a trip back to the 80's!
18 February 2020
Some people hate this episode and I can understand why. However, I absolutely loved it! The melodrama, the pure cheese and lousy production values. The original GLOW show was like this and a LOT of shows in the 80's were like this. Brings me back to my childhood when I watched the original show!

Terrible!
7 February 2020
Who greenlit this garbage?!

The show would almost be watchable if it wasn't for Dave's parents (Fran Dresher & her on-screen husband) repeatedly being complete irresponsible morons! You could easily replace most of their dialogue with "Look at this foolish thing I'm doing (or have done) and I don't care!" The premise of the show could work if you cared for or felt sorry for the parents. But they're unredeemably awful!

The rest of the characters fall into lazy sitcom tropes. Dave's sister for example. The younger sibling that doesn't have things completely together, blames the parents for her issues but is sometimes the voice of reason.

I really wanted to like this show. It mostly made me frustrated and angry while watching it. I see a quick cancellation in its future!

It had potential. Not surprised it was canceled.
10 June 2019
This show had lots of potential, but the forced overbearing laugh track, one dimensional characters and the silly premise were too much to overcome.

The only similarity to Cheers is both shows take place in a bar. Beyond that they have almost nothing in common. Cheers is still remembered today. This show will be forgotten in a couple of months.

Eagerly awaiting season 2! Great show!
31 May 2019
I stumbled across this show while browsing Netflix and without knowing anything about it thought I'd give it a shot. Boy was I glad I did!!! I watched all 8 episodes of season 1 in a couple of days!

I'm glad a show like this exists. The topic of sex in the teenage years often times either gets watered down into something resembling an after school special or is presented in only a raunchy & vulgar way. I think the both the writers and the actors have done a great job of mostly avoiding these pitfalls or at the very least explained through the show why something happened the way it did (trying to avoid spoilers!)

Keep an open mind, check it out and unless you're some sort of prude I think you'll enjoy it!

I think someone lost a bet.
25 May 2019
Most of season 4 of the show is a bit rough. Unfunny politics + relying on pop culture references & cliches to carry the entire show and almost all dialogue. This episode in particular is 100% skippable. Almost as if the writers had a competition to write the worst, most groan worthy 30 some minutes of filler they could.

Most people will never see this movie or like it. But I loved it!
6 February 2019
This movie is meant for a very niche audience. It was not created to make money or win awards. However, there is a lot of love put into this movie full of awful people mostly being awful to each other. I adored the minimalist electronic soundtrack. The over the top performances. The 70's/early 80's inspired retro decor, costumes, makeup and hair. Just everything with the style of the movie. It's almost like taking a step back in time for me.

Most people will not get this movie, but for those that do it's a real treat IMO.

I really wanted to like this show. I really like the character Esther plays on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but here she is completely unlikable. Same for the other lead. I was not surprised to see Freeform cancel the show after season 2. Hopefully the person who decided to renew the show for a season 2 before season 1 even aired got the axe!

I want to like this show. I really do.
29 September 2014
After watching two episodes I'm still on the fence. On the one hand I really want to like this show. It has some potential; back stories to explore, characters to develop and so on.

However, the situations and "tech" that's presented is completely preposterous.

I realize the show is supposed to be entertainment first and accuracy is pretty far down on the list but come on!

This coming from a person that's been in the IT business for 16 years doing work for the government, the US Army as well as multiple corporations.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't last a season unless it gets more believable.
