A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019–2023)
10/10
ALL THE STARS. Hilarious!
2 September 2020
This show is one of the best sketch comedy shows I have ever seen. I'm white and I don't get all the references. So what? I know funny stuff when I see it. Robin Thede is a genius at impersonation and her timing is perfect. The chemistry between the leads is excellent. The ongoing bits are well paced and level up nicely as they continue. Most of all, the scenarios seem fresh and inventive. The 227 Reboot alone is enough to make this entire show worth it and it's only one of the best parts. I cannot wait for season 2.

Doc McStuffins (2012–2022)

Excellent show for girls and boys

Thank you Disney, for finally making a show that features a girl who isn't a princess or a princess-in-training. Instead, this is a show about an girl (Doc) who emulates her doctor mother by being a doctor to toys and stuffed animals. This is rare in the world of kids programming. Usually girls are relegated to the role of side-kick, or there is only one girl in a crew of boys. Or if the show stars a girl, the show is about "girly" stuff which means that boys will shun it. Little girls AND little boys will like this show, and will be able to relate to a child caring for toys and fixing them. The other great thing is that the main character and her family are African American, with a mom who is a doctor and a dad who stays at home. Even today, there is a dearth of children's programming that features African Americans in the main character roles, and this show fills a dire need in kids programming. The show is well written, the actors are all good, and the story lines are interesting. Disney did a great job in creating a show with strong, interesting female characters. It's about time!

Ugh.

Is it the horrible acting, the awful fake British accents and excruciating unknown accent of Marco (some idiotic mash-up of Latin American and Indian), or the stories that are flimsy, ridiculous and badly written? Probably all of the above. This is one of the WORST shows for kids out there. I didn't even really love the original Angelina Ballerina but it is a million times better than this piece of garbage. The only decent part of this show is the live-action dancing. The original Angelina had real British people with authentic British accents and relatively decent story lines with characters that weren't one- dimensional, and focused more on Ballet dancing, which was the whole point of the original book. I don't know WHAT this show is doing half the time. Blech.
