A Reminder Why I Stopped Watching The Late Show
21 September 2022
I don't know what has happened to this show but the monologue only managed to get one or two laughs from me. At least the house band is still fantastic, even without Jon Batiste.

The Hispanic skit was the lamest and most pitiful piece of "attempted-comedy" I have seen in years.

Ana de Armas is the only redeeming feature of this lacklustre episode. With admirable poise and grace Ana coped with a singularly trite interview from Colbert. Always showing off photographs of celebrities. Questions about what the red carpet is like and such was just pathetic. I cringed so hard.

Ken Burns decided it was entertaining to dredge up historical mistakes from the 1940s. Just what one is looking for in a late night show... NOT.

And, as usual, unfortunately another mediocre musician to top off the show.

Peterson's Mind is Fascinating
8 August 2022
Essentially, this series is Jordan Peterson telling the audience his views on certain personal and societal positions when it comes to psychological well-being. Dr. Peterson is a champion of making the most of the individual's life through interpersonal respect and the pursuit of meaningful responsibility.

Honesty and forthrightness can be difficult, yet Peterson argues convincingly that it is a necessary part of having a purposeful life.

The series does seem like a stream of consciousness at times, but I find that Peterson is often at his best when he is thinking through his arguments. He may stumble at times, but he gets across a strong case for finding worth and happiness in what can be considered traditional values.

These values should not be lost. If one wishes to diverge from tradition, it is worth knowing full well what these traditions are and what one is losing if one wishes to live a nontraditional life.

By Trying To Do Too Much, Marvel Ended Up Not Doing Enough
16 May 2022
This can be summed up as: having too many characters means that they all end up being superficial. There was no opportunity taken to dig deep into any of the characters, hence it was boring.

Clearly someone wanted this film to be diverse and inclusive, but it came off as shallow and stereotypical. Nobody should want that. I thought Marvel was savvy enough not to let something like this get made with their name on it.

Anyway, as usual, Gemma Chan was a standout.

Applause for Molly Shannon
15 April 2022
Molly Shannon talks with Colbert about a time in her younger days in LA when she was having difficulty getting acting gigs; so her and a friend decided to pretend to work for David Mamet. Okay. Desperate times called for desperate measures. But, for some reason the audience in the Ed Sullivan Theater started to clap, and Stephen was noticeable impressed with Molly Shannon's cunning.

So is dishonesty and deceptiveness worthy of applause?

Not in my book.

Something is wrong here.

The Problem with Jon Stewart: Racism (2022)

This is what it looks like when Jon Stewart gets it wrong
10 April 2022
Everyone should watch this episode. You may learn something about what is wrong with the current trends in social justice. Even a man I respect can lose his way.

To put it simply, Jon Stewart and the knuckle-heads on the panel in the studio ramrodded Andrew Sullivan. Sullivan is a man who is a fearless and honest advocate for equality. As he tried to speak earnestly about real societal problems he was endlessly harassed and browbeaten by a bunch of posers.

Sorry bro, but Jon... YOU are the Problem with White People.

Second Guessing...
23 March 2022
This show is an excellent blend of a police/crime story with a family/friends story. This is why I watch it. But at this point in the show I have become annoyed by how the characters are always second guessing each other and themselves. I don't mind it happening (once in a while) but it is so constant it is annoying. It makes the fun in the show feel forced.

My Aside Rant: Jared stammering through his lines is annoying. Spit it out!

Mad as Hell.. Funny as Hell!
29 May 2012
I recently saw the premiere of Shaun Micallef's return to the ABC.

Shaun is in his element in this show. His opening bit was hilarious. I laughed so hard I often had to rewind it to hear the next joke.

I am thrilled to see Francis Greenslade and Roz Hammond return to working with Shaun. I like the new additions to the team as well.

To a degree the show reminded me of 'The Colbert Report'and 'The Daily Show', with fake interviews but more sketches. It works well. I'm a fan of Colbert but as an Australian I often find myself wanting a show lampooning Australian news and politics.

If you liked 'Newstopia' then you'll enjoy this show.

'MAD AS' IS THE SHOW I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! Thank You Shaun and Co.
