Badlapur (2015)
Revenge is pointless!
This is a long write-up. I usually refrain from commenting but seeing such nonsense possibly-paid up reviews full of praises since the first day, I'm forced to write this. Mr. SriramRaghavan made EHT, JG and AV- a gem which had so many intelligent moments that a person with a low IQ won't even get it right the first time and might reject it as a bond-rip-off. This is about Badlapur - the movie and metaphorical place where the intelligent audience definitely is after watching this movie - seeking revenge!
If the movie is in 2015, the killing happened in 2000. CRV was launched in India in 2002 & definitely not of that model! Let's say somehow they got this model in 2002.. then BADLAPUR +15 years must have been set in 2017! This movie was done by a director who had created and directed 1sec to split-second attention-slipping scenes in AV - the hooting of engine at railroad crossing showing just back of the symbol making the spy miss a few words while listening on a spy device.. a missed call making a sniper miss.. Cardgame and flirtatious 242 references - the base clue of the movie. Or the one from EHT "This was the sixth question!" etc. List is too long! From such makers we expect less than a blunder of showing a wrong car in the wrong year!
There is even more but I'm not even going to comment on the remaining plot-holes. Just wanna ask WHY?? Why did the director choose to treat us like immature dumb people after delivering a masterpiece like AV!
BADLAPUR. The trailer said "Don't miss the beginning"(KARANARJUN?) You can miss the beginning.. maybe the whole movie!
Later they made it a sub-title / punchline for the movie. Wonder why are they telling you "DON'T MISS THE BEGINNING" at the very beginning of the movie? Silly! Seems they have made this movie for a species lower than humans. Some are stating: 'Hero becomes the villain-vice-versa, Axe becomes tree' 'Classes will like the climax, the masses won't..' Msg to all these people: The classes have transmogrified into masses and the masses to classes!.. if any of these actually exist. I have read calling this movie Neo-Noir! This movie is definitely not noir! Go watch a few Clive Oven movies like Shadow Dancer, Closer, Croupier, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, etc. OR something like TaxiDriver, Drive, Nightcrawler to learn what Noir genre is!
This director is really good at making lover boy actors look bad-asses - NNMukesh, SaifAliKhan and now VD. I'm shocked to see such a dull straight forward movie which thinks that the audience is plain stupid and needs everything to be served on the platter. Every morsel checked and chewed. You don't need brains to watch this movie.. just ability to watch raw violence. Nawazuddin is good but a little overrated. YamiG was wasted. She had more screen presence and did a much better job in Total Siyapaa than this one! Why was she not given enough screen-time ?? The inner working of Indian prison system, life: already seen in EHT and in Jail.Leave enemy to it's peril-EHT.JG and AV had highly detailed characters, immersive and fast-paced storyline, strong performances, witty dialogs, crafty action and AV had good music - although from Pritam. The only person I was happy to see was GopalKSingh - the silent criminal whom Urmila allows in.. who says "AYER India". ".. After AV, the director has set the bar so high that it's difficult for his subsequent movies to match it. After AV almost flopped they really dumbed it down for the "MASSES". Nothing to lose-protagonist could have placed himself in the same prison and avenged the antagonist.Same year. Still love the director's beautiful mind & previous work.I'm at BADLAPUR now.Disappoionted.Cheated.But if I can forgive Skyfall I can forgive this too. Please don't do this to us again Mr. SriramRaghavan.
Luck (2009)
LUCK = Matrix * Kaante * Deathrace
LUCK is a stylish movie with good dialogues and like all other movies which depict high-end action even LUCK had to compromise a little on common sense and logic. I totally disliked KAAL, the same witer-director Soham's 2005 disaster movie! LUCK as a movie could have surely captured a cult-following, but it lacked a constant adrenalin flow.
A few ideas in this movie might look similar to that in Kaante..like the first job assigned to Imran Khan and the concept of gathering a gang for a special task. What similarities to Deathrace? No need to mention if you have seen Deathrace (any old/new) Matrix 1, because Danny in this movie was the Morpheus and Imraan was the Neo. (like many other wanna-be/could-be Neos)
Sanjay Dutt as usual carries of the Underworld shade very well (though he mentions that he is a Busineessman who does "Pure Business" and not a Mafia DON in the movie). Sanjay Dutt sports a new beard style in every new hardcore Mafia movie, Kaante/Plan/etc. etc. I would like to see what is his new beard style since he is done with almost all !! You will get to see him doing his typical "I don't know" type-move when he opens up both of his arms wide and moves his neck and gives a "I-don't-know-anything" facial expression.
Also there are a few unintentional funny scenes : - When Danny helps Imraan get out of the ATM trouble near Fountain and later on after driving for so long drops him there again !! ?? - Where US Embassy in Bombay is located at VT ?? (atleast as per the movie) - Where Imraan Khan can get 3 stamps of "REJECTED", always then and there on the spot on his passport.
I watched this today morning @ Jaipur(India) and I could see localites whistling and clapping on Mithun's performance.. very opposite from a Metro like Bombay.
LUCK is a good watch if you want to get an experience of jumping from a building/airplane/running-burning-train and can't do it, but instead are ready to compromise 2.5 hrs for a similar lukewarm feeling.
Jaane Hoga Kya (2006)
Stolen Computer Graphics Scenes
This movie had an interesting start (very much like Hollow Man) but for just 120 seconds. Slowly you realize that the plot is weak and is about a Human Clone escapee (Sixth Day {Arnold}). The Inspector (Rahul Dev) himself is so confused that he doesn't know what his character is doing. He is against Human cloning for some strange reasons tries to make people commit crimes without being asked for and then chases them. Sometimes he makes anonymous calls trying to fund Aftab's Cloning Project (maybe to test Aftab) and the next moment he spies on Aftab. Totally crazy !
I was shocked to see that in the end of the movie the editor/director din't try to copy, but the scenes are shamelessly lifted up directly from a Hollywod movie.
Siddharth's Lab had these half alive cloned bodies of himself. GOD knows which chemical catalyst did Siddharth use for cloning the capsules(clones) which grow up directly to his original size of the original in a few hours ! Amazing, why doesn't he grow tissues and human body parts this way !! ??
I could notice 3 scenes in the end in which the movie shows some Hollywood CG on the screen while Aftab (Siddharth) types furiously before trying to escape from his so called Laboratory which of course has to blast in the end.
The first copied screen reads "Assembling PortScan Objects". Now this is a straight copy-paste of the 3 second sequence from the Hollywood Movie Swordfish starring Hugh Jackman, Travolta and Halle.
The second and third shameless uplifted scene is from Mission Impossible : I The computer screen shows the Decibal meter and the third one shows "Downloading NOC List"
These people can get sued by Dominic Sena (Director : Swordfish) and Brian De Palma (Director : Mission Impossible 1) because their movie frames were included as we all know without permission. Who knows there may be many other copied scenes as well.
Such copiers are a disgrace for the Hindi Cinema ! This movie could have been tolerated if it didn't have stolen content, at least the visuals could have been original. But Do watch it, it'll be fun to verify the above statements.
Fast & Furious (2009)
Very Fast Very Furious
It should have been called "The Fast and The Furious - The Dark Tunnels" or "The Fast and The Furious - The Traffic Re-Routers" Drifting was a big event in FF3 which is a pie cake for everyone in this installation. If you compare all releases on Fast and Furious, the 1st Installation still rocks! Then after that comes FF4, then Tokyo Drift and the least exciting was the second part.
Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) crazily kept on changing his mind which route to take while driving. He did this all the time in the movie. If he reached a dead-end, he quickly routed his car to a new path. Amazing ! The only thing which I think had potential was when they come to rescue Vin Diesel in the end. The writers could have kept it for the next installation along with a fast-on-feet, jailbreak chase sequence.
Very few street races, Amazing Direction, very few scenes for Michelle (Laticia/Letty). I feel a bit cheated because I expected to watch Jordana Brewster (Mia) who had not many scenes in the movie.
Definitely a good watch !
