Finger of God (2007)
10/10
I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works... - John 14:12
15 May 2015
Over 30% of world population claims to be Christian yet most of us don't believe that everything is possible with God. This documentary takes us on a journey around the world where you get to see a whole new level of faith.

Darren Wilson's 'Finger of God' is a must watch for everyone, especially Christians. Miracles should be a normal thing for every Christian as that's what Jesus did and encouraged his believers to do. Sadly there's still so much unbelief in today's world. People believe in everything except the truth, that matters the most. Even those who believe are not strong enough in their faith.

Jesus only ever complained about one thing:

You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. - Matthew 17:20

It's a well made film with good direction, meaningful narration and impressive introductions. It questions the faith of every Christian and encourages us to upgrade, only by believing in the Most High God.

Looking forward to Wilson's other work, Holy Ghost (2014) Father of Lights (2012), Furious Love (2010) and more.

Ridley is Ridiculous
16 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was excited when it was first announced and wondered if it could be better than 'The Ten Commandments'. After seeing Noah (2014) I lowered my expectations but again I didn't expect it to be that bad as it was directed by Ridley Scott.

This is just another money maker where Hollywood doesn't give a toss about story telling or following the book. The idea behind was to use the name "Exodus" to sell tickets to Christians, Jews, etc. Before they realise it's a load of rubbish, our folks in Hollywood have filled their pockets.

In this version Moses has a freak accident on Mt Sinai breaks his legs and suffers head injuries and becomes delusional. You may think he's suffering from schizophrenia as he begins talking to an imaginary child.

There is no God in this version, Moses is almost acting on his own. He decides to go back to Egypt and train Israelites in battle. In the meanwhile a bunch of crocodiles invade Nile and begin to devour every living creature, as a result it turns blood red. Flies come out of dead fish and frogs jump out of the river and so on, you get it. There is no parting of the Red Sea, the sea level just drops.

This Moses has no staff but he's always carrying an Egyptian sword. He has a modern day haircut but sports a beard, which is ridiculous by the way. Bale is below average but I don't blame him, he wasn't really sure about his character and neither are we.

Ramses looks confused from the beginning, no character development or emotion. You will find other brilliant actors wasted like Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver, with less than five mins of screen time. I don't know how it managed to get a rating of six plus, it doesn't even deserve a one.

The character of Moses was completely misinterpreted and messed with. This is not the Exodus from the scriptures. There is no depth in this story or any of the characters. Most importantly God has no part to play in film. I saw Ridley Scotts' interview on TV when I was flipping channels and remember him saying, 'I can't do GOD'. This was unbelievable, then I wonder why he bothered with this project.

I wouldn't recommend this anyone, religious or not. 'The Ten Commandments' remains the best Exodus movie ever. I would also recommend the animated version, 'Prince of Egypt' which is great for kids and adults.

Noah (2014)

Nooooo Aaaaahh!!
17 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was so excited when I first saw the promos for this movie last year. A big budget movie with a decent star cast, special effects and all that. I was hoping it would be a biblical blockbuster like Ben-Hur or Ten Commandments. I waited and waited and finally here it was.....

I couldn't believe what I was watching, it was shocking to see the liberties they took with this one. Snake skin that glows when it wrapped around your arm. You think it might give you super powers but no it doesn't. Fire balls that can be used for making instant fire and you guessed it, used as explosives. Dogs with scales like armadillo, hunted down and eaten by the others. I understand they need to be creative to make it exciting for the viewers but the stuff they came up with is just ridiculous.

The book of Genesis does mention Nephalim or Nephalites, the giants who lived at the time. But it doesn't say anything about Transformer like monsters made of rocks called Watchers. According to this movie the Watchers built the ark, not Noah and his family.

The Noah we know was 600 years old when the ark was completed, he had grand children and great grand children. This movie got it completely wrong, looks like they didn't even bother reading Genesis before writing the script. This Noah has more trouble with his teenagers than anything else.

Most importantly this Noah has no contact with God, he doesn't pray or hear voices. He just has a nightmare and decides to build an ark. Overall it is a dark, twisted imagination which is sad and disturbing. It almost portrays that second chance given humanity was a curse. The characters are so miserable including Noah you wish the ark sank. The animals would've been more entertaining than the actors but they were put to sleep. I'm surprised how it's got a rating of over 6, I gave it 2 stars only for special effects.

So please don't bother if you have not watched it yet. Don't waste your time or money at the cinema or on buying dvds. I would recommend the Noah segment in 'The Bible' [1966] which is actually based on the book of Genesis.

300: Beginning of a Disaster
9 June 2014
Another unnecessary made up sequel not even half as good as the original. The lead character is played by some guy never heard of, nothing impressive, i'm sure we won't see him on the big screen again. Eva Green was the only watchable character in this movie, she was good as usual but i'm sure she now regrets being in it. Glad I didn't watch it in the cinema, it would've been such a waste of time and money.

Some scenes were plain stupid like gallons of blood pouring out every time someone was slashed or stabbed. Maybe someone thought that would make it the most violent and grotesque movie ever..

The transformation of Xerxes was so unconvincing, it's basically one guy takes a dip in a pool and another one comes out, yes really. There was another father and son story running alongside just like in the first one, for no good reason. Overall this movie was a complete garbage made to earn profits from the goodwill earned by the original.

Can't believe the rating and reviews
24 April 2014
Okay, it's not exactly 'Lord of the Rings' but it's not as bad as the reviewers here say it is. People complaining about lack of depth and change in characters, most of them are deities so what do you expect. I thought the visuals, costumes, make-up etc were also excellent. It may appear as a kid's movie for some but thats a good thing, it can be enjoyed by all ages. I couldn't believe the guy that played Monkey King is the same guy who played IP MAN, wasn't an easy job but he pulled it off and other actors were also great. I'm actually looking forward to the sequel if it is in the making I would recommend it to anyone, don't believe the reviews they're just talking rubbish.

Not so dark...
8 September 2012
Haven't seen any of the older versions so this was completely new for me. Tim Burton's movies always excite me and the cast had some big names including Johnny Depp so had to watch it despite the negative reviews.

The story was predictable and the characters lacked depth especially the children. If this was entirely a comedy it would have been a much better film. Johnny Depp's was impressive as usual, Eva Green was stunning in her appearance and performance, they could have done more with the character. Everything else was sort of okay, the locations, scenery, costumes, make-up, etc that you'd expect from a Tim Burton movie.

Impressive low budget horror
7 February 2012
I didn't have any huge expectations from this one after seeing the ratings and reading reviews but had to watch it being a horror fan and all. Also it didn't seem to too bad when I watched the trailer. I must say Ti west has definitely matured as a film maker since 'The Roost'. This movie has depth and he has focused on the characters that draws you closer and makes the story more believable. It might seem a bit slow for some but none of the scenes are boring or laughable which I think is more important. I agree that it could have been a lot better but one must also consider that it is a low-budget horror. I think it's nicely done and encouraging for young film makers on what you can achieve with limited budget and location.

Clooney's best?
30 January 2012
It has it all, decent storytelling, flawless direction, outstanding performances and amazing locations. Alexander Payne did an amazing job with this one just like he did in 'Sideways' or even better! Clooney's performance was exceptional, if he ever wins an Oscar for leading role this should be it. Also some good performances from other cast including Shailene Woodley as the teenage daughter.

It's about a middle aged guy who's a trustee for inherited family property more than some of us can ever dream of. Ever wondered what kinda problems them rich guys have? After his wife's accident he has a few challenges to face, reconnect with his daughters and some important decisions to make. Overall, The Descendants is a fantastic film that can be remembered for long time.

Another flop for Johnny?
30 January 2012
Will this be another disappointment for Johnny Depp at the box office? It appeared to be funny and entertaining in the trailer but did'nt deliver for me. There are moments I found to be hilarious that reminded me of fear of loathing.. and locations are stunning no doubt about that but I was waiting for it to get better and then couldn't be bothered anymore.. to an extent where i was waiting for it to finish. I haven't read the book, I'm sure it is a good read but it didn't really work for the movie. Johnny did his best and some outstanding work from Giovanni Ribisi but that wasn't enough. Not worth going to the cinema i'd say.. can wait for the DVD.

Original is way better
30 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I don't usually watch Hollywood remakes but since it was directed by Fincher I thought why not! I was a little disappointed with Fincher's version of Girl with a Dragon Tattoo. Sorry to say but I think the original Swedish version is way better than this, the characters, performances, the story line and everything else. Niomi Rapace was much better than Rooney Mara, she was convincing and you begin to like the character and feel sorry for her once you get to know her in the movie, didn't feel the same way about Rooney Mara. What's with the stupid haircut and shaved eyebrows, did she really have to look so silly & unattractive? Also the relationship between Mikael & Lisbeth is somewhat strange in this version, couldn't make much sense of it. Again Nyqvist was more convincing in that role than Mr bond with no real expressions. Henrik Vanger, one of the main characters in the film only appears in the beginning and then in the end, was Mr Plummer busy shooting another film? At times it appears like American characters placed in Sweden. There is nothing surprising or intelligent about this version and there is no depth in rest of the characters. The only thing I found convincing was Lisbeth rides a Harley Davidson instead of a dirt bike, being a goth n all.

If you haven't watched the Swedish version or read the book then you might like it but I would strongly recommend the original. I am a Fincher fan and loved his previous films seven, fight club, Benjamin button and also the social network but didn't feel the same about this one. sorry finch!
