Face it...
12 April 2024
...we all wanna make this movie.......

I know childish and trashy, but that *fantasy* kept me watching until the end.

A 90 minute movie is 1,350, 4 second camera angles. This film used maybe 60, if I feel like being generous. There were scenes that didn't change the camera angle for minutes at a time. As gorgeous as Tina Krause is, two minutes of her filling the screen with nothing going on is hard to watch.

The dialogue is minimal because you'd have to have a story for that, but guess what is missing?. I'm sure it was a matter of a pay-cheque for Ms. Krause.

I wouldn't watch this movie (again) even If I had made it.

Airport '77
17 February 2024
This movie could have been shortened by including a scene where the cabin crew demonstrate emergency procedures. Then everyone involved would know where their flotation devices were, and how to use them. You know...like every flight you've ever been on.

That is the biggest hurdle of disbelief. This is the situation where the crew should start asking if there are any Olympic swimmers on the plane,... oh, and maybe a doctor too. Which they eventually do. No surprise.

This is so similar to Airport '77, but just not as compelling of a story-line. Character development left no clues as to why we should care for these people.

Would you read a book about lesbian vampires?
18 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
No, but I just watched a movie.

I have gut feeling that this movie should be rated a 10. What's more perplexing, is that I can't explain why. *.....and, NO I have no affiliation to this film other than watching it.

This ended up being one of the most non-romantic, romance films I've seen in a long time.....if ever.

Cameron (played by Alex Matthews) is the key here. All he wanted was love. What he got was "love is never reciprocated." Is that not one of your scariest fears??? The female leads, I'd seen in some raunchier videos, but in this case their sexuality does actually fit the story line, and they make it feel real.

Alas, I can't give this a 10 because. (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) wasn't Jessica Ferguson's role supposed be that of a 16 year old?

This is a romance wrapped in a very clever vampire story. Would watch again.

A nice car...
7 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
....doesn't make for a complete movie. Especially when you film the high-speed chase scenes at15 mph, which is pretty evident. Just watch the yellow lines. To add insult to injury, all of the chase scenes were too long. I guess to bring it up the 90 min run time.

It kind of has a poor man's "When Mikey met Mallory" (Natural Born Killers) vibe without the (for lack of a better word) romance. There were interesting bits. Enough to make me suffer through the next GD too long slow-speed chase. Danielle Harris brought a good performance considering what she had to work with. There's are plenty bloody gore scenes, which were handled nicely, a plus for viewers. I liked that the fight scenes didn't involve dance-fighting, that so many other action driven flicks have been doing for the last decade. That part was refreshing.

Overall a watchable flick with some flaws. I would have rated it higher than 3, but the car chase scenes really blew it for me.

I suppose...
12 November 2023
..... if I found an old VHS recorder in a dumpster I might be inclined to shoot a few scenes, but I doubt I could come up with something this bad. Honestly, the quality is seriously bad. What good is having a 4K television if I'm looking at something that appears to be using ancient technology. Like from the 70's.

I watched it because it seemed to have a quirky story line, and it does although it was wonderfully disgusting, so it wasn't entirely a waste of time.

If they used modern tech to put this together, it wouldn't have made a difference. Best suggestion is some heavy editing, and cutting it down to about 45 minutes.

Based on a story
11 August 2023
In the opening credits, it's says "based on a true story"....well the story it's based on is the screenplay of the Toolbox Murders, The People Under the Stairs or more recently, Cobwebs. (IMO)

It's a home invasion movie with all the tropes that go with it: Nobody believes the heroine....medication is the issue....a bratty kid that's irritating af, ...the husband is out of town all the time.....let's not forget to wrap it all up with an emotion hokey ending.

The actors played their roles believably, but without anything original happening throughout the movie. I kept waiting for a plot twist, or a jump scare, but hey just didn't happen.

This movie is fine if you enjoy cookie-cutter plots, but there are so may home invasion movies that are worth the watch. If you skip this one, your 87 minutes won't be wasted.

No Cult Here
21 July 2023
This is by no means cult worthy, as other reviewers seem to think. I'll agree that it is bad. Real bad. OMG the "Forest Gump" scene at the Hub is just one example of cliche rip offs, and corn-fed humour this movie is full of.

Parts of the soundtrack were alright, but inconsistent, earning it an amateur gold star rating. The camera work filled the screen with bad angles, bad lighting, and some pointless imagery.

Watch it if you must, but you wouldn't be missing anything. I can see the allure for the people from North Dakota though. If you come from there then maybe watch it for the familiar scenery.

Bad movie = yeah Cult Status=zero.

Well....
22 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's different, I can assure of that. This is a movie that centers around a hypochondriac/germaphobe who's studying to become a nurse. So far normal, right?

Her phobia's taking it's toll on friendships. Still pretty normal.

She's reaches a point where she believes her feces is what's causing all her troubles. This where the film starts to warp into something very different, and not a trope that is heavily used in many movies. It's been done, just not too often in a mainstream flick.

*SPOILER ALERT*.....in order to cure herself, she does what most animals do.....she eats poop. Not her own poop, someone else's. Dogs do it all the time, but it's still pretty gross.

Overall it is a pretty interesting flick. Some nice footage throughout. The subject matter may be hard to swallow, (excuse the pun) but it still play out nicely.

You've been warned.

The era...
21 February 2023
.....of made for TV movies flourished in the 70's and this film feels like it was one of those. Everything about this screams soap opera 70's style.

The guys will be guys, and the girls are psychotic ......or is it the other way around? Regardless, the characters were written eons ago. The adultery committed is a huge soap opera trope. I was half expecting the wardrobe department to match the colour scheme of what ever set they were shooting on any particular day.

As a break from the tedium of mellow-drama, the OR scenes were interesting enough, though I can't speak on their accuracy, but it was a welcome break to everything else that was going on in this flick.

It's a time killer if you need time to kill.

Speed 3
27 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Without any huge Hollywood stars. Bad CGI. Predictable plot. (Spoiler alert......the character with two names in the credits is the bad guy)

There's a billionaire that cares about peoples lives. Sizemore could have phoned in his part. Evacuation of the rear cars didn't seem to create a seating shortage in the forward compartments.

Plenty of stock footage of emergency equipment. A police escort for a.motorcade that had nothing to do with the plot. Police cars driving down residential streets. Emergency vehicles gathering on parcade rooftops. None of which seemed to play into the scenario.

You won't be missing anything if you skip this one.

Not the way to end a caeer
20 January 2023
For an actor that announced his retirement (for health reasons) Bruce Willis was in eleven movies released in 2022. Face it. Over the years we've all enjoyed watching Bruce chew up the scenery. Unfortunately not all of the releases for the year were stellar performances. This one being the 3rd, and final installment of the Detective Knight trilogy.was not what I would call the highlight of the three. Starting from the chase scene coming out of the bank, this movie became a giant turd. The dialogue was voiced off camera from the 1:09 mark almost to the very end. What was voiced on camera was out of sync. I can't help but think that they rushed the release for some reason. Surely they could have cleaned it up in post if they had taken more time.

It's sad to think they rushed the release just for the money. I had enjoyed the first two in the series, but this one was ruined by the bad sound editing in the latter third of the film.

Jack Kilmer gave a sparkling performance. His father would have been proud. I think he has a long career ahead of him, and I'll be looking forward to seeing more of his work. The rest of the cast carried their parts believably, which is why the ending was such a disappointment.

I love ya Bruce, so I'm hoping when Assassin is released later this year, that it'll be something we all want to remember you by. Regardless, thanks for the decades of enjoyable performances.

Most of the film involves the characters arguing with each other. How much fun is that? Sure I can appreciate the tension building aspect of it all, but it gets to be a bit much after a while. The lead actress even refers to herself as a b&itch. How can we not agree?

LGBQT+ aside, ......why does this have anything to do with the plot. Side story?

If they spent more time in the cave I might have enjoyed the movie more, but I just couldn't get past the bickering between the actors.

I've rated this a 2 for the effort of creating the thing in the first place......after all, I probably couldn't have done any better, but had I the opportunity, I certainly would have tried to make the characters interact in a more amiable way.

Crazy reviews.....but I enjoyed the movie somewhat
19 August 2022
No less than 30 reviews were posted on June 14, 2022. All them rated this movie a 10. Yet when I submit this, I'll be sent an email stating that some admins are going to parse mine before it's posted. I gotta chuckle outta that.

Alright, so we all know there are a handful of movies out of the tens of thousands that have been produced in the history of film that actually rate a 10. This ain't one of them.

This is one of the better Vinnie Jones films out of everything that's been released over the past decade. He does "Vinnie Jones" in this pretty well. In a lot of the others he seems to force the character. What else is he going to do? He's been typecast into the role.

Aside from nothing being original, from the script, the soundtrack, and the cinematography, it at least was a smooth ride from beginning to end. There were no noticeably huge plot holes, and the continuity of the film seemed bang on.

Not too deep, paced to keep me interested, I guarantee you've seen worse.

Davey and Goliath.....
13 July 2022
.... or some such religious cult type message dealt to the audience wrapped in a horror movie, that isn't all that good. Seriously: Davey and Goliath was the first thing I thought of while trying to watch this, only because the actors seemed like they were calymation puppets, but with half the talent.

Mix that in with references to religious comic book characters, and it pretty well sums up who the target audience is for this.

The props/wardrobe department did the best they could, but probably worked with the same budget that hired the actors. There are no fixes for this movie without cremating it, and starting from scratch. If you intend on keeping with the religious message from the first attempt, I'm just not the audience you're looking for.

Touch of the classis horror
18 June 2022
If you're not a horror fan, then I think this might not be for you, but if you are

It had so many elements to like. The nostalgia of the mid 20th century. The occult tie-ins. The spirit world. An evil antagonist, and his evil henchmen. Historical architectural subtext. The rift between the two lovers that could go either way. The sound track fit the mood perfectly. The camera work was spot on. Even the somewhat corny acting from Lang an Dern was refreshing. Sonja O'Hara really pulled these elements together.

The script, although not all that original, carried the storytelling pretty well, even if it was a bit cornball.

Overall: It's been quite awhile since I've enjoyed a horror flick this much. It had all the tropes of a classic horror film.

I know it makes for better drama...
10 May 2022
.....but whatever meds McMasters needs would be sent to, and administered at whatever facility he was housed in. The whole movie is based on his paranoid schizophrenia, so why not set the stage at the only police station that doesn't follow the medication procedure.

Michael Paré hasn't made anything worthwhile since his "Eddy and the Cruisers" days, but some efforts are better than others, and considering this script is so full of holes, he isn't horrible in this.

This movie isn't a ten, but it ain't no one either.

It's in the motive
2 March 2022
I don't usually like movies that are written, directed, and starring the same person. Especially if it's their first kick in the can, but Josh Conn did a pretty good job on this.

First of all, the only similarity between this and Misery ( as some reviewers seemed to think) is that they're both abduction themed films. That's where the similarity ends. Kathy Bates's character, and, Nicole Freeman's motives are totally different. And that's where the story begins.

The camera work was good with some spectacular scenery, and I liked the way that the tale unfolded bit, by bit. A good soundtrack added to the ambience.

I'll be looking forward to see what this first time director, writer, and actor does in the future.

Ghetto moves to the Suburbs
25 January 2022
I almost gave up on this movie.

Act l: Was sad, and hard to watch. It consisted of 35 minutes filled with angry people yelling at each other. Very little in the way of character development, but at least there was enough to get you through the rest of the movie

Act ll: Moved on to the lead characters rise to power in the most unrealistic way possible, by selling drugs in broad daylight in a lovely little suburban neighbourhood. It was like watching a drive-thru at a fast food joint. Not one of the cars in the line up was was over 2 years old. Are you telling me that drug users are driving brand new Cadillac's, Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, and Porsche's?

Enter Act lll: The attempted takeover, and the retaliation. Who didn't see this coming?

Technically the biggest mistakes were in the editing of the soundtrack, and cinematography. Some of the dialogue seemed muted, and too hard to hear. There were a couple of scenes that looked cheap, and didn't fit in well with the rest of what was going on in the film.

....so I did make it through the whole thing, but it wasn't anything special. You won't be missing anything if you don't watch it.

Read the synopsis first.
31 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you don't read the synopsis of this movie, you'll be utterly disappointed. It's a pantomime from beginning to end, so without knowing what to expect, you'll have no idea what you're watching. It relies 100% on the atmosphere created by sounds, music, the occasional grunt, and cinematography to tell the story. Why someone would put something like this together that lasts 1h 22min is the big question. Somebody had to have written a story line, that's obvious, and it actually makes sense, but at the 56 minute mark I found myself saying the only reason to watch any longer was for the final kill. By that time I was hoping for a plot twist. *SPOILER ALERT* ....this is a gin and tonic with no lime. It's not a plot twist if you see it coming. Why they threw the bs about "He has one night, that's the time limit he gave to himself." in the synopsis was a red herring.

I've read some of the other reviews and after watching the film I found them to be quite harsh. Could any of them done a better job?

In the end, for me it was an experience. Nothing more. Nothing less. When, and if future conversations bring up the topic of POS movies I won't be mentioning this one, but it's definitely not on my "Must See" list either.

Why isn't....
19 October 2021
...Roger Corman mentioned anywhere in the credits? The only mention I've seen of his name is in the synopsis of this movie.

It's not a horrible flick, but with a scant few visuals (stolen?) from the original, this doesn't seem like a reboot/re-imagining of the original at all. It's a horror movie. Not all horror movies with chainsaws, masks, cabins in the woods, serial killers that cannot die, or drills are reboots.

Make a movie, and own it. Don't pretend a successful director had anything to do with it if you're not going to give him a credit.

A sense of community
14 October 2021
The saving grace of this little oddity is that it's short.

It's what it is. It's not trying to be pretentious, artsy, or vain. The people that put this together knew they weren't going to win any awards. Why they made it I'll never know, but it had a real sense of community theater about it. A very clever community. They used every horror movie cliche to bring this collection of vignettes to a place where it was fun, and amusing to watch. There is nothing professional about Satan Place. That alone makes it surprisingly better than some of the newer flicks I've reviewed put together by so-called pros.

If you're going to watch it at all, I recommend you watch it to the end. I can guarantee you've seen worse.

... but that ending though
6 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was being entertained for the most part watching this even though it had plot holes you could drive a truck through. Yeah the rat was a guy in a furry suit, that was okay. A so called scientists that didn't even think of getting a rabies shot after being gored by a giant rat.... I could live with that. A police captain staring like a deer in caught in headlights as a hostess uses wine bottle, trays, and chairs to defend herself.....I guess that could happen.

What really got my goat was the terrible CGI at the end. I was all set to give this a higher rating, but could only give it a two, and only happened because I allowed myself to forgive the movies other obvious flaws.

Watch it at the end of a busy day, and hopefully you'll nod off before the ending.

An A list of B actors
30 September 2021
Trejo, Rothrock, Jones, Whalen, Grieco, Winslow, O'Halloran , Goldberg, Dudikoff, Lister Jr., and so many others. I can't help but wonder if this movie had a Marvel Universe budget how much sillier it could have been. Probably not much, but the CGI would push it through the roof.

Another vanity piece.
19 July 2021
With 40 some odd acting credits, 15 producing credits, and 12 directing credits to date, this vanity piece by Beau Yotty should have been better. He does all three here. The most irritating part of the whole film was the sound. The levels were all over the place.

Listed as a comedy, horror, thriller, I didn't get a single giggle, guffaw, snort, or laugh during the duration of the film. Not even close. The horror aspect took up maybe 10% of the movie, unless you want to count the dialogue from "store owner".

The camera work, and soundtrack (when not squelching) carried the load when it came to the atmosphere, so it wasn't all bad. The acting wasn't anything notable. I've endured worse in better movies.

I wouldn't recommend watching it unless there was absolutely nothing else to do, or you're part of the production team. I really hope they did, and learned something about film making.

The making of....
14 June 2021
All the nauseating camera motion of a found footage film in the making of a found footage film. Top that off with a reminder of all the Zoom meetings I've been forced to sit through during a pandemic, and I just couldn't like this film.

The character build up was thin, but that was a godsend because the characters were shallow. I didn't want to know any more about them than what was presented early on.

The concept is something everyone who owns a phone has thought of. It's only the most narcissistic of us that would even try to pull it off. It dates back to 2008 when "SMS Sugar Man" was shot entirely on an iPhone.

I'm sure there's an audience for this film, but I found myself browsing Reddit half way through.
