The Wishing Well (2009 TV Movie)
10/10
Watching the best of actors
14 February 2010
Wishing Well is not outstanding in story material but very enjoyable nonetheless. One of the really good things about it is the appearance of Ernest Borgnine, who at 92, is an believable person. An excellent actor (I loved him in Marty) who has been in many movies and on TV, and here he is again with a good role, not just a quick scene. It is also nice to see Tempestt Bledsoe, who has matured well in her looks and talent from the Cosby Show. It was such a pleasure to see her in this. I think many of us would like to do this, at least we feel it sometime in our life. To get out of the life we live and into someplace simple and loving and caring. I think both lead characters are written well. Even some of the music help the story along. I wouldn't advise anyone to watch it if you like reality heavy and deep subjects that tear at the heart and mind. This is just one to sit back and enjoy.

Good movie to teach some of the reservation history and life
4 September 2009
I really enjoyed this movie, and especially seeing Graham Greene and Tom Jackson together again. Loved them in Medicine River and this is basically another good pairing. It is the story of the Indian tribe trying to bring back children who had been taken from the reservation when their parents were gone. As usual, the government thought it best to take them from their heritage because they did not have a mother or father. It shows the closeness of those on the reservation as they step in and help to bring a sense of family and heritage to these children growing up without it. It is difficult sometimes, as the movie shows, for those who remember only foster homes in a different life. To learn to accept the culture of their people, it becomes a challenge of patience to the older ones who work to impart that culture into the lives of these children/teens. Making it harder for this particular teen, is the fact that his grandfather is partly to blame for his mother's death. I enjoy the closeness that comes eventually in this group of people as they work with the teens involved. It is well worth watching.

Excellent series
27 July 2009
I only saw a couple of episodes and cassette taped one. It had such great, funny characters. Wish they would at least put it on a DVD or bring it back for a short rerun on some of the oldies stations. Wondering who one would contact to see it get done. Never saw Paul Sand much other than in this. I loved Jack Gilford. He is an excellent character actor. Also liked the man who played the character who was in charge of seeing that everyone was in their places on time. He was not listed, but have seen him in lots of other things. Just don't know his name. I loved the premise. Good clean comedy series' are very scarce these days.

I must be in the minority.....I loved it!
1 September 2008
Have not read all the comments (there are certainly a lot!), but just the first bunch makes me feel like I saw a different movie from the rest of the viewers. I went with the expectation that Indy is now much older and things wouldn't be quite as quickly paced. I found that both Indy and Marion look great for their ages. The bits of gray hair and wrinkles make them seem more real and I was in great admiration for their acting skills which I enjoyed as I did with the other three. There were so many little moments of fun and enjoyment, as well as lots of action and that splendid music, that I liked it enough to see it more than once. I guess I was not expecting perfection, or doubting that the characters, after all these years, would be older and a little slower. Granted, the adventures of the other three were perhaps a bit more exciting.......but I loved the premise of Indy having a son he didn't know about, of him still being in love with Marion even after all these years, and having the answers for getting out of the tight spots which was learned through years of adventures, while his new-found son learned from him. I liked all the characters pretty much, except for the role Cate Blanchett played. She was interesting, but not very threatening. Since it was the 50's, it had to be Russian, not German, so that was appropriate. I, for one will be looking forward to getting a copy of it to watch again as I have the others. I was not disappointed.

Finding John Christmas (2003 TV Movie)
10/10
Even in the summer, it is good to watch
28 July 2008
I watched this in July and even with the Christmas theme, found it touching and sensitive. It is not for someone with a reality-mind as it is full of fantasy and lovely moments that sometimes don't make sense. William Russ did a grand job as Hank. I have only seen him in the remake of The Long, Hot Summer where he played a weak character. But in this one, the expression in his eyes throughout, as Hank considered the things that were happening to him, was wonderful and tender. Valerie Bertinelli was excellent and lovely as usual and very believable in this role. And Peter Falk as Max was splendid and always brought a smile when he appeared in a number of important scenes. There were many special scenes, including the one where Hank realizes who Max really was in his life. It's not for everyone.....especially those who aren't into 'feel-good' movies and this is definitely one! If you like everything to be perfect and make sense, avoid this one. But I think it is well-worth re-watching, which is why I taped it. (Yes, some of us still have VCRs. :)

A Real American Hero (1978 TV Movie)

Excellent version
5 February 2007
I have seen several versions of this sheriff and for me, Brian Dennehy is the one who seems most able to hold his own against the "bad guys". He portrays a man who loves his town and wants more than anything to rid the area of those who would destroy it.....including the children and teens. (Ken Howard did a great job with his part) I think it was excellent because I found it believable. The surrounding characters also lent great credibility, well done by all. I am a fan of Sheree North anyway, and find that in this movie she is as beautiful a lady as always. I really enjoyed how she was finally accepted by the better-than-thou church lady. If you have seen the other Buford Pusser movies and not this one, then you have missed a treat. Of all of Brian's movies, (I am a Jack Reed fan), this is one of his best of his earlier ones. I bought mine second hand online and was not disappointed.

Classified Love (1986 TV Movie)

Lovely little Romance
28 June 2006
If you are looking for serious plot and story, this is not for you. Made in 1986, it is just a nice little story about looking for love in all the wrong places and finding it just around the corner...down the hall...sitting on your front steps....... Michael McKean was a cute guy in those days (as were most of us in our younger days)and made a good love interest. Stephanie Farucy as Katie was also in Hocus, Pocus, among other things. She has a prize-winning smile. Dinah Manoff will also be remembered for playing Marty in Grease... She made the perfect match-maker in this movie who also made a good match of her own. If you can find it, you will be lucky. I got it years ago from Lifetime and am always hoping it will come back again.

Excellent movie for its time
11 May 2006
I enjoyed this movie very much, mostly because of the many excellent actors. Now (2006), most, if not all, of the actors have passed away. I greatly enjoyed Jack Webb's role probably the most as he also began his career and also the little that Charles Bronson (Buchinski)was featured was a good start for him. One interesting note: when the ship was on a test run with big brass on board, you can see that Lee Marvin is twins. He relays the message to go faster to the man at the back of the ship, which is also Lee Marvin. I got a big kick out of that. I am not a Gary Cooper fan, but I loved the movie as a whole, just watching the many good actors that are now gone.

Great "feel-good" movie
19 April 2006
I love seeing Dale Midkiff once more in a Hallmark movie....especially one that brings out a tender/strong character. He looks as good as he did in the first one I saw him in.....Love Comes Softly. And Lisa Hartman Black (wife of Clint Black) is as lovely as ever and so wonderfully slim. This movie is definitely a "chick flick" and so enjoyable to watch. If you like modern movies with a nice ending and beautiful cast, you will like this one. Larry Manetti from Magnum PI did a grand part as one of the high school classmates at the reunion. All now grown and some completely different from their high school days. Others still unchanged, except in looks. If you are a fan of Dale, and enjoy fairy tales (few people look this good at their high school reunions, I think), you will love this one. Just let yourself pretend you are one of them. :) Rue McClanahan is an added asset, of course, to any movie.

Really good, clean adventure
6 December 2005
I loved this movie because it had all the excitement of an adventure movie without the exotic locals, the blood and gore, and bad language that often pervades this gender. It gave much history, and despite all the many, many, mistakes that people have found in it, I enjoyed watching all the twists and turns it took to find the clues and solve the puzzle. Christopher Plummer has a very small role as the grandfather, but he is unmistakable with those marvelous blue eyes. One of my favorites who always, it seems, plays the bad guy, is Stewart Finlay-McClennon, last of "Christy". His voice is unmistakable. Nicholas Cage does his usual, wonderful, underplayed hero, and you can't help but like him. His talent is very good. Watching this, and remembering that it is fiction, so it doesn't have to be factual about all the things they found wrong, is very enjoyable and I highly recommend it as a family movie.

Excellent beginning to the Jack Reed movies
23 November 2005
I enjoyed this one very much. It was the beginning, and I especially enjoyed the interaction between Reed and his wife. It was such a great contrast to the other men with their mistresses and dishonesty. The fact that Reed had had a long-past love made the character more interesting and the problem his wife had with that was understandable. Treat Williams did an excellent job as by the end of the movie, you literally hated the man and his angry outbursts. Made you wonder if he would stay alive in prison, with his cocky attitude and hair-trigger temper. In enjoying this one, it just made each following one better and I have enjoyed watching this one and all those that followed. A strong, big, but sensitive cop is my ideal of the best and Brian does a great job with it. He did a splendid job all round.

Getting Married (1978 TV Movie)
10/10
Excellent movie for Bess and Richard
8 November 2005
I love to watch Richard Thomas in comedy roles and this is no exception. He is certain that this beautiful newscaster is destined to be his wife, even if she is definitely marrying a snob with snobbish mother. His attempts to win her while assuring his parents he is getting married are enough to make you cheer him on. He even writes a beautiful song which is sung to her by Fabian. His folks continue to plan the wedding to be held in their back yard. Her parents are rather on his side, but mostly just watch the efforts made to win their daughter. He never gives up, right down to the last minute, becoming the "Knight on a white horse". I love feel-good movies and this is one I highly recommend. (He did a good job on Barefoot In The Park, also with Bess Armstrong....much better than the movie. His talent at bringing out the comedy in his role is superb.)

Good "Brian Dennehy" movie
15 July 2005
This is excellent because Brian is so good at playing the big,self-assured guy who eventually finds life just a little harder to take than he had imagined. Joanne Woodward plays that sedate lady who has bound up her feelings within her, due to a bad marriage, and only Brian's character could have opened them up for her, needing her love and assurance as life deals him a heavy hand. The ending is unusual, but necessary and I loved the memories it gave. The scenery in England is beautiful and although I do not know if it was filmed there, it seemed to have been. I have watched it many times and would recommend it to all Brian Dennehy and/or Joanne Woodward fans.

Camelot (1982 TV Movie)
A good comment, not a bad one..Great!!!
13 July 2004
I am disappointed, when I like something, to immediately come upon a bad comment the first thing I read comments. I loved this version much better than the movie as the lady who did Guinevere really had a beautiful voice and was much lovelier than the screen version. Richard Harris was delightful and would have only been surpassed by Richard Burton, who originally did the play on Broadway. (Julie Andrews should have been in the movie) The man who did King Pellinore did a wonderful job and Merlin was also played well. I got a lot more enjoyment out of the play. Somehow it was like being in the theater. Since I never get to go to plays, this is a marvelous way to view them. I think that anyone who does not like musicals should never review them as it will always be with criticism. See it if you get a chance, although it is difficult to get a copy.

A Man's Movie
7 December 2003
This is much more a man's movie with all the flashbacks of an episode in the Vietnam War. Don Johnson does an excellent job in the lead role and his son the same as a younger version of him. This should get his son many more offers of roles. I enjoyed it perhaps because of a chance to see once more the talent of Don Johnson in a good role. He has aged well since Nash Bridges. Good war remembrance movie, reminding us again how this war affected those involved, so many of them very young at the time.

A delightful, feel-good movie
15 August 2003
This is one of the very few movies where Gig Young gets the girl. The casting for this movie was excellent with Carolyn Jones and Red Buttons, along with Edgar Buchanan. Shirley Jones is beautiful, as always. It is rarely shown on tv now, but if you happen to see it appear, be sure to tape it. I have it and watch it often, just for the good feelings it gives me. As a Naval officer, Gig Young is very good, acting as the protective, loving man. Red Buttons, as always, plays his part with great skill, making the movie just that much more enjoyable. I also liked the names of the characters, as they were unusual (Cy, Tandy, Key) and suited the persons who played them. Wonderful movie for a happy, contented evening's worth of watching.

Space Raiders (1983)
Fantasy Scifi
12 May 2003
This is, after all, only a fantasy, but I liked it. The idea that a promise was given to a boy by a man who was once an honorable officer, and was kept even though it meant death to Hawk, was special to me. What a memory this young boy must have had all his future life for this man. These characters lived on the edge of excitement all the time, facing death throughout their adventurous lives. I found it good, but perhaps a little hokey at times. Fun to watch anyway. I would rate it at least 6 or 7. It had a good moral.

Fun To Watch
12 May 2003
A little hokey, but fun to watch. So many good stars in this one, even though it borrowed a lot from other SciFi movies. All the actors did as good a job as possible in their roles. Noticed that Robert Vaughn played the same kind of character that he played on Magnificent Seven....a loner who went out in a blaze of glory. This, too, is just for fun. Not a serious movie like the Star Treks or the Star Wars. Just sit back and enjoy.

The Music Man (2003 TV Movie)
A shadow of its former self
17 February 2003
Matthew Broderick and the rest of the cast really tried, I am sure. But when you have had the best, it is just impossible to redo it. The characters in this one were without "character" and were bland, both in voice and looks. Mrs. Shinn blended in with all the rest of the ladies, not standing out as Hermione Gingold did. It was the same with all the rest of the important characters. Buddy Hackett was perfect for his part....his substitute is just an imitation. I don't blame any of the actors....they did the best they could. But Professor Hill was a strong character with a fascination about him. Matthew B. just couldn't seem to do it. It was like a young man trying to imitate his father. They were all just shadows of the original. I have always believed that if you had a hit with a movie.... a strong cast for the characters....it should never be remade. Just never quite matches up. At least it surely didn't in this one. I cringed for the actors, trying their best, even with the script changes. Not one I'd ever recommend.

Bogus (1996)
Understanding
18 January 2003
After reading the many comments and watching the movie several times, I think I realize why Albert's friend was French. The people he was closest to in his former life were the French magician and his wife/partner. Therefore it made sense that his imaginary friend was like them. I loved the movie and though Harriet seemed to change suddenly in some people's opinion, I think she was changing throughout the movie. The looks she gave and the thoughts that seemed to be going through her mind, were very evident of that fact. Gérard Depardieu was excellent in the part of Bogus, the evidence between him being so big and the boy so small. How many times have we as adults wished for someone big and strong to take us up and give us comfort? I loved the ending where he wandered away to help another child. Sometimes in my life, I wish for someone like him. He also has a lovely smile. Good movie for that time when you are wanting something different.

Green Card (1990)

Interesting story
18 January 2003
I thought this was a well-written movie. Found it interesting that he got married for a green card and she got married for a green house. I loved the apartment she got to live in. Both characters became important to each other as they really got to know something of each other....not just the normal things, but the emotional feelings about life. Spending a weekend together was the most important thing. Whenever they looked at each other and no words were said, you could almost feel the affection between them growing. Both actor and actress did an excellent job of bringing their characters to life. I also felt that the ending was all right, because somehow you could believe that she would go overseas in the near future and remarry him over there, perhaps in a nice ceremoney, and bring him back home with her. It was a pleasant movie to watch and one you can watch with your children in most cases.

The Wedding Dress (2001 TV Movie)
Good feel-good movie
1 January 2003
This movie does have many stories in them, but I found it interesting how they dovetail together. It is a movie well worth watching. Tyne Daley has certainly handed down her acting skill to her daughter (especially when she plays her own daughter). I enjoyed it and found myself "feeling good" when it ended. I watch for enjoyment, not necessarily for reality.

Great entertainment
1 January 2003
Much better than most of the original movies Cheech Marin was in. This one has heart and sensitivity, with a little comedy thrown in. Love the "very rich" father. One of the better movies Cheech Marin has been in. I enjoy watching it more than once. Another real feel-good movie. The kind with a happy ending, whether it is reality or not.
