Almost boring for good
26 March 2012
This movie has a too slow pace in its entirety, as there isn't question of a gradual increase of suspense that is so decisive for many movies. The main characters can be mentioned flat characters and are often too shallow and predictable in their behavior. I am sure that there already have been made quite similar movies about defiance, deception and envy between Hollywood actors. The only character who has taken me by surprise is Michael, who shows eminent modesty and comity to his chief, but gradually evolves a more critical approach to the other actors so that he becomes the leader of the crew. Actually, my incentive to watch this movie is that Greg Scott (who plays Michael) has also played a role in the awesome movie Ghosthouse. Therefore I am very sorry to say that the quality of Almost Hollywood is miles away from Ghosthouse. In spite of all my criticism, the movie has some funny, more or less original scenes about the rehearsals and conflicting appraisals and biases of the making of any movie. So if you like an easy movie that shows conflicts in the Hollywood scene in a nutshell, I would do recommend you watching it (without having too great expectations).

An unique blend of humor, common masculine vulnerability and future hope
16 March 2012
This movie undoubtedly immediately recalls feelings of vulnerability that is recognizable for most men, regardless of where they live. Although the story of this movie is not very original (indeed, fear of rejection in love is not a rarity in any movie at all), the way he expresses his feelings of desire and vulnerability are both very witty and touching in a no nonsense way. Even an actor such as Hugh Grant doesn't show his emotions of insecurity and sorrow so intensely as Mike does.

In general, in a vast majorities of the movies ever made, men show their emotions far less intense in very probing love scenes, contrary to most women do in movies. In spite of this, many men all over the world undoubtedly often feel the pain of love as intense as Mike does often without openly showing it neither verbal nor non verbal. Therefore, this movie has remained with me all along: this movie is a nutshell for every man who want direct recognition of repressed feelings about the pain of love. Finally, I think the way Mike deals with the ups and downs of finding a durable intimate relationship are both a consolation, consolidation and very instructive for any man. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recommend this movie if one only prefers complicated love stories with cryptic psychological plots!

Amsterdamned (1988)

The most authentic thriller for the Amsterdam canals
18 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
In my opinion, there aren't that many Dutch thrillers that couldn't be characterized as "only be suitable for typical Dutch soil". Indeed, the storyline of Amsterdam is perfectly aptly for the Amsterdam canal network, of both its singular beauty and mystery. Indeed, there's a contradiction between the attraction that these canals have on both numerous tourists and all the Amsterdam inhabitants. The canals are only worshiped by being navigated and watched from the wharfs and buildings. As far as I know, Amsterdamned is the very first movie that unravels a fear that's felt by many Dutch water freaks who dive, swim or sail in any Dutch lake, shore, swimming pool or ditch. They have fantasized about exploring the Amsterdam canals, but feel too much fear of realizing it because of being scared off by the menacing nontransparent waterlines. The murderer of Amsterdamned must have occurred in anyone's nightmare before this movie was released. Therefore, Amsterdamned is a kind of epoch-making story. Water crime is hardly ever published in media. Amsterdamned is a perfect paramount of the thin line between imaginable crimes from the canals that once could happen in reality and anyone's unspoken recurring fear of hidden malevolent divers. Although the main characters of Amsterdamned are just flat and a little shallow, the tension is built up very well. Indeed, it takes a lot of time before the real perpetrator is both found and arrested. His mutilated voice is only unveiled in the very end of the movie. So before this revealing scene, the main question is: what's the face behind the masquerade in the shape of a diving suit? Furthermore, the diver's motives for his atrocious deeds in the canals, is only told very lately by a psychotherapist, who previously didn't appear to be an ambiguous person at all. Therefore, Amsterdamned has enough surprising personal plots.

The Vanishing (1988)
9/10
Both the spookiest and most probing movie ever made in my country!
16 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the few movies that haunted me in the night. The main quality of the story in its entirety is the main fear of many people to lose your girlfriend all of a sudden. This often happens in our real life, but the kidnapping of Spoorloos is imaginable in reality, but hardly ever happens in such a gruesome way. Saskia has such an innocent, reliable, devoted personality that she is one of the most unexpected random victims of Raymond the sociopath. She didn't expect her dream of the golden egg to realize by being buried alive by anyone she has just met on a petrol station. The way she felt while wakening in a coffin after the anaesthesias must be a multiple paramount of her most awful dreams.

Despite the abundant gruesome scenes, this movie has moved me in a positive sense: on her own request, Rex had promised Saskia to never leave her alone again. Even after her vanishing, he went beyond all his borders to figure out what had happened to her by consciously taking the risk of being assassinated himself too. I think that hardly any boyfriend would emphasize his promised unconditional loyalty in such an eternal way!

Shocking as in daily reality!
13 August 2009
This is a movie that shockingly perfectly reflects daily reality: innumerable women in the world are led to the ambush that Francine have become a victim of. Despite Runaway Dreams isn't based on a true story, I think most of the elements of the film are recognised by women who have been abused by their father and are caught by the prostitution unwillingly. I strongly recommend every person to watch this movie, in order to become aware of all the immense agony and dangers of the world of prostitution: on the outside, it often looks both innocent and attractive, but on the inside, it often turns any woman's world completely upside down. Hopefully, more people who are visitor of prostitutes become aware of all the pain, horror and cruelest deception that many prostitutes hardly can't cope with. Fathers who have sexually abused their daughter once should feel deeply sorry for all the damage they have done and foresee all the consequences their terrible behavior can have. So this movie is a very, very, comprehensive eye opener for everyone, for both good and bad people!!
