Fastest Delorean in the World (2018)
Definitely one side of a sibling rivalry story
All in all, a decent documentary with a lot of flaws. Don's presence in the film was all good. Adam obviously told the story from his point of view and, although he resorted to text records for part of the dialogue between himself and Kenny, we really didn't get to see his brother's side of the story. I think the 15 year difference in ages was a huge factor. Note to Kenny: Leave a review! Regarding the build and quest for fastest "D", too much time was spent moaning and groaning about the mysterious power dip and the inability to get above the magical 500 hp number and less spent on figuring out how to get his number down. HELLO! McFly! It's not just about HP. It's also about weight. A stock DMC with a time machine upgrade is a dog compared to stock. Did any of the other fastest DeLorean contenders have that done to their car? I doubt it. When Adam finally got smart and started to remove weight, all I could do was shake my head and say "finally!" One last thing. Are we just left scratching our collective heads at the end when the motor caught fire? What caused it? Was it overheating? Burst fuel line? Electrical? And was it just a nod to the BTTF movies to say "to be continued" or is Adam actually going to try and resurrect his car?
The Time Travelers (1964)
Excellent period time travel Sci-Fi flick with magic!
Yes, some of the special effects are a bit dated, but it was more than made up for with a liberal sprinkling of magic tricks throughout the move to compensate. Very original, in my opinion. I found myself, more than once, hitting the rewind button to watch it over. Of course, that alone is not sufficient to make a movie good. The story line, although rather typical at first, had enough interesting twists and turns to keep you from getting bored. I am not sure if the comic relief was necessary or not. Perhaps the writers were unsure if they were writing a serious or humorous story. The ending, for it's time period, was quite bizarre although I would have liked to have seen a bit more of their final destination than just a view through the portal.
Dirt (1979)
Vastly underrated. Great documentary. Finally out on DVD
I originally saw this in a theater when it came out in 1979. It appealed to me because I was heavily into Jeeps and off-roading at the time. The film does a great job of blending a documentary on all sorts of off-road activity around the travels of the narrator all over North America in his motorhome to visit these events. I thought this was one movie that would never see the light of day on a DVD, but was surprised when it recently started showing up at on-line auctions described as a movie released on 2004. I knew it was the same one I saw in 1979 thanks to the very skimpy, but accurate information I found on the IMDb. I highly recommend this to anyone at all interested in off-roading of any kind. Lots of humor, racing, mud, spills, great photography, and 70's culture. The DVD has some special features about the making of the movie along with the original trailer.
