More over the top but entertaining
7 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Don't worry America, Harvey Dent is here to save you!! As we plunge deeper into the multiverse it is expected that we would encounter the weird and strange but Marvel's quest to create and conquer the ultimate villain leads us through portals that we probably could have done without. As stoked as I was to see Charles Xavier make an appearance, when he arrives in his yellow bumper car it's almost comical. Though meant to be goofy and silly at times to make the journey through universes more palatable, the cameo appearances just kind of miss the mark in bringing the film any real substance. Meanwhile, Wanda's powers seem so unstoppable that i'm left wanting more of an explanation for her perceived invincibility and wondering when she became the most powerful superhero Marvel has ever made.

Though we probably could have done with fewer cheesy lines and scenes (like the musical note battle between stranges) you can't say Doc Strange 2 wasn't entertaining especially when seen on the big screen with friends. It did have me laughing at times; sometimes AT the film and sometimes with it. The horror element was kind of fun and a slight departure from the usual superhero drivel.

Personal Takeaway
30 October 2016
In the end, it's not about who pollutes more or less, we all have to make a personal change of lifestyle and mindset. I know i'm no where close to an ideal amount of consumption, but I want to try just a little harder to be more mindful of what I put into the environment and become a better steward of our beautiful planet and people. Great film. Very serious tones and messages throughout, but anything short of serious wouldn't make any real change, in my opinion. Being able to see some of the various examples of how fossil fuel, coal, and energy consumption negatively effects the environment reinforced the core messages very well. There was quite a lot of focus on DiCaprio in both face time with the cameras and the spotlight of the work that he has been doing in this field, but it is overshadowed by the bigger picture, which is addressing the problem that climate change poses on humanity and actually taking action.

Back to Basics

A great take on a classic book. I thought that the transitions between the main characters (the little girl and her mother) and the telling of the Little Prince by the old man would be choppy but it fit in almost perfectly. Deep messages of what matters most, simplifying life, etc. are found throughout making it a truly worthwhile experience. The sophistication and maturity of dialogue between the Prince and the other characters creates a touching atmosphere without the "cheesiness" of your typical feel good film. Although slow moving at parts, it is captivating enough to never really be boring. Excellently inspiring, overall.
