I fall asleep 2 days in a row trying to complete this movie
5 January 2024
Let's talk about Insidious: The Red Door, or as it should be aptly renamed, 'Insidious: A Guide to Napping.' This cinematic marvel has redefined the horror genre into something truly horrific: a cure for insomnia.

Every so-called jumpscare? I spotted those from another time zone. The most intriguing characters must have been playing hide and seek because they were nowhere to be found. Instead, we're saddled with Dalton and Chris, characters so devoid of charisma, they make a cardboard cutout look like a Shakespearean hero.

Dalton, our 'hero', has the emotional range of a teaspoon on a good day. Watching him attempt to convey feelings is like observing a robot trying to understand human emotions - a valiant effort but ultimately, a fail. And Chris? She seems to be in the movie for the sole purpose of filling the diversity quota and to offer a walking, talking reminder: 'We're inclusive! Look!'

These two could have single-handedly sunk the Titanic with their on-screen chemistry, or lack thereof. But let's not put all the blame on them - the movie itself is like a tranquilizer dart to the senses. A swirling vortex of boredom that sucks you into a state of catatonic disinterest.

When the highlight of your movie experience is the popcorn you ate, you know you've stumbled upon a cinematic masterpiece - of the sleeping aid variety. I fell asleep twice trying to watch it, which is quite the achievement considering I was actively trying to pay attention.

So, if you're in desperate need of a sleep aid, 'Insidious: The Red Door' is your ticket to dreamland. Just don't expect any nightmares, unless you count the nightmare of realizing you can't get those hours of your life back."

PS: the movie is so undeserving that I asked ChatGPT to help me do this review. I guess even an AI can understand how bad the movie is. At this point, even ChatGPT can make a better script.

The Nun (2018)

Atrocious
16 December 2023
I will save you the trouble of watching this crap.

  • If you came to this movie to see Taissa Farmiga ALONE, you may have some 1 minute scene of this beautiful lady talking without the nun costume out of 1 hour and 36 minutes of horse crap.

  • If you came to this movie to see a horror movie, please, by all means, quit.

There is absolutely nothing of redeeming value on this movie. Getting scared is not something that you will feel, not in the least, there is absolutely NOTHING to be scared of, besides dying of boredom.

Some scenes were so ludicrous and stupid that I wanted to really kick my TV and cancel HBO Max just because.

The move is so far fetched with the nonsense that makes it impossible for you to even connect with what is happening, everything is completely OUT of place. Creatures appears our of nowhere, for no reason other than trying to scare you, and it's jumpscare-one-liners-jumpscare-jumpscare-one-lines.... nuns will turn into monsters in a flip of an eye, zombies are seen through the movie, for no reason.. I was only expecting to see aliens and werevolves, just because.

The movie has no plot whatsoever. It's just some random demon called valak that behaves like an internet throll about 100% of the time and everyone else running away, praying and/or screaming.

The director of this travesty should really retire and live the rest of his life outside of society so nobody have to endure ever again anything remotely similar to this.

If only we get to see a little more acting from Taissa Farmiga, but she couldn't do much with this atrocity that was handed to her. I feel sad that she participated in this.

I will give it 2 out of 10 only because Taissa Farmiga was in it, but it is not enough justification to watch it. It's the perfect example of everything wrong with hollywood.

I don't even know where to start with this atrocity
20 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, let's start by the begining. This movie is clearly divided in 3 parts.

The first part plays SO WELL.. and when I mean well I mean nearly PERFECT, even surpassing what we have seen on other Alien movies. It exceeded my expectations. The SpecialFX were top notch, the team behaved like they actually have working neurons and the entire premise of the signal sounded plausible. That is, until the second part, where they reach the planet.

This is where Part 2 starts and the whole idea of good android, bad android, creation and destruction comes into place. Here is where I start getting red flags all over that this is NOT going to be a good movie. Too much time is spent on the android storyline... much more than the actual aliens. The whole plot is so contrived and bend on putting the android first, that the crew starts behaving like raving lunatics and idiots.

All the worst desitions ever made in a film are here, on the characters themselves acting like idiots and on the actual film, repeating past mistakes. And this is the part that I thought that the movie will AT LEAST match Prometheus, but Riddley Scott appear to have more things reserved for us.

When Act III starts, this is when the movie reach such a low level that I am simply unable to review it properly. And since Riddley Scott is unable to even respect us or the Alien cannon and decided to do whatever he wanted and treat the viewers like morons... My review of the third part will be shown as a series of fictional movies that will describe how I felt watchiing the ending...

It felt like I was watching:

  • Lost in Space: Moronic Edition
  • Super Mario Bros: Alien Edition
  • I Robot: Evil Edition

That's what I think about the last Act. Oh, and BTW, there is absolutely NO SENSE in showing the xenomorph early stage as a full grown xenomorph without the chestbuster part. That was totally UNCALLED FOR and also STUPID.

Since when small babies have enough force to fight an entire group of humans and get away with it?. Do they learn to run, jump, evade shots just seconds of being born... and then turn into full grown Xenomorphs, faster than the ship could take off the planet?.

Somebody please tell Riddley Scott that he can't direct anymore, he is incapable of creating something worth watching anymore. He completely destroyed the Alien Saga with this.

Fox should just ignore Prometheus and Covenant as much as they decided to ignore Alien 3 and Resurrection. All, completely forgettable movies. Oh BTW, I very much prefer to watch Resurrection 3 times than watching this piece of complete and utter garbage one more time.

I feel scammed. This is not a funny comedy, this is the korean version of Saw
2 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I won't spoil anythiing for you but suffice to say I feel cheated, scammed and I'm furious.

The trailer, the cover, the characters and the first episodes are CLEARLY sending you a message that this is a super light comedy, in fact Netflix put up a text saying "similar to Hometown Cha Cha Cha".

I was in from the start. Except some minor inconveniences with the stupid plot of the main character touching people's butts, the actual chemistry worked, the acting was superb and there is actually good comedy all around. It was so much fun that the rest of the family joined by episode 5.

It's not until the killer scheme is put in place where the series starts to fall down.

By the last 4 chapters, the drama, the pain, the suffering of seeing lost ones is so high that you really need to make an effort to continue watching. By the last 2 chapters, I really felt like I was watching Saw but the korean version of it.

There is more body count here than in a typical killer movie such as Saw, it makes NO SENSE to turn the entire "mood" of the series THIS violent and sadistic, because at the end, it really feels like the writers/director enjoyed showing you how "good" is to make people suffer. HORRIBLE development.

Series started as an 8 and ended up in 2. If you wanted me to see "saw korean version" then promote it like SAW, Don't show me fancy jokes and smilie faces to end the whole series with a sadistic killer and multiple scenes of your beloved characters dying a horrible death.

SHAME ON YOU. Nor me nor my family asked for this.

Could be so much more than we've got
5 October 2023
I get the concept of the movie, I truly get it, we have a survival movie here where the main lead will fight against all odds to save her child, the problem I'm having with the movie is not the concept but the execution.

I will cite another reviewer here: making your main lead suffer trauma after traume does not make your movie interesting.

This movie makes that mistake more than once. Our lead does not earn the respect or interest of the viewer just because she suffers trauma after trauma. I'm sorry but I need more than that to get me hooked.

2 Hours of trauma without any other development is not what I consider my favorite type of survival movie. Granted the main lead (Anna Castillo) did a superb job with what was given to her as a "script" but there is not enough character development to justify 2 hours of suffering.

There is also the big suspension of disbelief on what happens on the water, I won't want to spoil anything for you but you really have to imagine that this "could actually happen".

And then there's those super fake boobs. I get that they wanted to convey realistic scenes but... For a moment I thought i was going to see some realistic nude scenes that could really improve the movie but no, they went for fake plastic boobs.

I would say this movie is a hard pass.

After the movie ended I was still much more interested on what truly happened to this world, the how and why... than what the main lead endured. This should tell you one thing or two about this whole movie.

Finally!!!
31 July 2023
Imagine, Comando, Rambo, Die Hard but with an airplane captain and you'll get this movie.

Yes, it is predictable, yes you will probably know how it ends, yes it's stupid fun, yes it has lots of kills and a lot of heroics but it is also a testament that there is still life in Hollywood.

After all the nightmare that the woke movement has put into cinema, destroying all that is good, it is actually quite refreshing to see an actual male captain behaving like a real brave male will do, revindicating the figure of an honorable man that will do it's best for the people that he is responsible with.

If you like me, are really tired of being patronizing all the time and that directors turns whole movies into manifestos for the woke movement, if you like me are tired of trying to simply enjoy a movie to be lead into a sermon on how you should be living... then you will surely love this one.

It's an oldschool movie about a male heroe, where everything is helping him. No progressive ideas, no manifestos, no women empowerement, no BS. Just plain old action.

Totally recommended!!

Horrible piece of cinema. 100% feminist agenda oriented
27 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you were wanting to watch a good comedy, be prepared, this is anything but.

The movie starts out great honestly and the work of Belén Rueda is really commendable. She really shines through the movie with great acting but that's about it. Soon after the infidelity is discovered, the whole movie goes downhill.

Just an example on how feminism is destroying cinema.

  • The father of the boyfriend is a complete moron, doesn't even know how to open a microwave without the wife.

  • The father of the bride is a carpenter that does not work and spent his time chopping wood and making stupid things out of wood with no purpose and also willing to be unfaithful to his wife without any remorse.

  • The brother of the bride is so stupid he doesn't even know how to speak properly, his IQ seems to be below 50 and he constantly do stupid things for no reason.

  • The random men are always pricks, like the one on the street messing with the bus.

  • The father of the church seems to be a disabled man, only interested in eating while things happen.

  • The actual boyfriend, who does not appear to do anything with his life besides getting the bride.

On the contrary, these are the women characters:

  • The main lead, a super rich woman that finds out her life was spent incorrectly on her husband and child and now is empowered to be herself, without any man close. Her husband is a complete moron.

  • The bride's mom, that drives a bus everyday and also takes care of her husband like a real women of today, she also has time to make a speech to a random man about what women face everyday in this horrible men-driven world.

  • The main bride, who is a workout trainer and an empowered woman that does everything right, also can do training classes while being pregnant because that shows even more women power.

  • The secretary of the main lead, who hires her teacher because she is cool and deserves to work. She also mentions that you should not discriminate a pregnant women for work, even when the main lead wanted to hire her.

I could go on and on..

Most meaningful interactions in this movie are going between women and women and when man are portrayed, they are simply cartoonish, incompetent, stupid and plain boring.

This is 100% feminist agenda at work. Shame on directors, shame on writers and shame on actors. You're contributing to the deterioration of society with this crap. This is not cinema, this is indoctrination agenda at it's best. Kids should never learn that men are simply stupid or mean, that women are powerful and should work and do everything for men and that taking care of a child is like abandoning oneself.

This movie is plain disgusting.

Absolutely disgusting
11 May 2023
This series has some tiny little good moments but is plagued by misery, desperation, bad manners, bad people and bad language.

I truly don't get all the praise. I tried to like it because I've considered the topic interesting, to explore anger and rage about mundane things that can easily get out of control.

The problem I'm having with the series is that I would have liked if the series had at least 1 likable character but in all honesty, most of the characters are just plain mean people.

It's not enough that they are generally bad, they also swear a lot, and I mean A LOT.

Between a scene that last 3 minutes you could here more than 30 insults easily. The count is so hi that on a normal running time of a chapter, characters can swear most of the time and the count can easily go beyond any reasonable point.

Point being, swearing and speaking badly is not necessary a bad thing but if that is the ONLY thing you hear for 40 minutes, then the whole thing start to loose focus pretty fast.

I went from interested to disgusted in just 2 episodes, I could barely tolerate the 4th and by the 5th episode I decided to drop it.

There is too much gross people out there for me to use my free time to watch more gross people swearing, insulting at each other and behaving like morons all the time.

Most of the characters are simply despicable, so the whole point of illustrating what could happen in our daily lives if things turns ugly quickly vanished. For me to be able to enjoy a series I need to be identified with at least 1 character.

That hasn't happened. This seems to be a good reflection of the current state of society in which the more gross, badly spoken and devoid of any good ethics a work is, the more praise it receives.

If you enjoy treating people well and trying to do your best to improve the quality of your life you will absolutely hate this series. It is truly disgusting and despicable... but then again, it's Netflix. Disgusting series are their prime target.

Part 1 =9, Part 1 = -5000
25 April 2023
I went with this series without knowing anything about it and started watching it. It was so good that the entire family joined me. By the 3rd episode everyone was so hooked that it was one of the only topics of discussion after 6pm at home, how will the kids survive the next mission?.

Everything was "too good" to be true and I was about to recommend this series over any other hollywood trash to all my friends, I was very proud of liking Korean shows that almost never dissaponted me before.

Then chapter 6-10 came in and everything I cherished so much about the first part went downhill in ways I just cannot express properly here.

It's like the series first part 1-5 were directed and written by the very best of korea and then part 2 (chapter 6-10) were written by morons who really enjoy seeing everyone suffer for no reason.

The whole "feeling" of Part 2 is: meaningless, useless, gritty without any redeeming value, senseless, pointless.

Everything that they care so much to build up to Chapter 5 were completely destroyed in front of my eyes, like someone really wanted me to suffer for no reason.

I was left with a sense of hopelessness and frustration beyond belief.

It was not "good gritty bad ending" it was "utterly pointless gritty". Part 2 seems to be written by someone who really disliked all the characters and the audience and wanted the whole thing to implode on itself for no reason other than "shock value".

Then it hit me, I hated this series so much because it tried too hard to be the "game of thrones" of Korea... well congratulations!! You succeeded in making the first TRULY AWFUL series that I TRULY HATE.

Now when they ask me if I ever hated a korean show, I have this show to prove that it is indeed possible, that koreans really screw things up this much.

Perfect complement for the Matrix Trilogy
2 January 2022
I do not know what are you all guys smoking, this was great!

I am a serious Matrix Fan. I had watched all the Matrix movies over and over again, I know every line. I went to see this movie with very low expectations, thinking it was going to be a disaster. Oh boy was I wrong.

For starters I thought this movie was going to be filled with LGBTQ+ material since the director/producer is called herself a woman. I am against LGBTQ+ material inside movies and I think it is destroying hollywood, I'm so glad to see that the movie is honoring it's characters, the story and the flow between them more than trying to impose an ideology into it's viewers.

Cinematic wise it is beautifully crafted, the score is also amazing and a perfect blend for what is happening on the movie. The fight scenes are weaker than the trilogy but acceptable. Most of all, the movie is more script oriented with more lines, more dialogue and more message in it than all the trilogy combined.

I heard people is complaining that this movie is the Matrix devoid of serious meaning, less gritty and more fun. I tend to agree and that is not a bad thing.

Watching the trilogy is hard, those movies are far too serious and pretty dark, it makes watching them difficult, something you cannot do all at once as you will get tired pretty fast.

This movie is more about what happens next and it doesn't pretend to repeat the same formula, I do not see any intend on making it as a cash grab and it is not trying to bring us the image of the savior again, instead, it is shaped to show our current society weaknesses and bring some hopes into it.

It is less dark than the trilogy? Hell yes. Is it that a bad thing?. Hell no!!

The movie is more inspiring, has a deep and honest goal and it's more fun to watch than the trilogy, I wish the fight scenes were as good as Matrix Reloaded, which for me is the best movie action-related but the script and lines given and the actual goal is more interesting in Resurrections than in the Trilogy.

The unification of all the previous concepts on the Matrix is also here and I like this new world much more so than the previous one.

Hats off to all the team. I did my best not to like this movie but I just couldn't. I now have faith that good cinema is still possible coming from hollywood.

Maybe people is pissed off at Lana that she didn't bring any LGBTQ+ theme into the movie?. Guess what, doing a GOOD movie is what defines a good director, not promoting an agenda. Maybe that is why everyone is hating it.

Trash disguised as "modern drama"
22 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying my only interest in the movie was because Evan Rachel Wood, now, after suffering through this movie I am no longer interested in movies where she acts as I've learned my lesson, do not follow the actors, follow the play.

And the play is absolutely horrendous, incredible cynical and an accurate reflection of how society thinks of itself, pure trash (at least a big chunk of society where this movie is targeted).

Let me sum up what you learn from "Kajillionare" in few words.

1- It is fine to steal from honest people if you consider you have less than them.

2- parenting is awful and your kid should serve you as a tool to get you money.

3- talking to strangers and getting to know and bond to create plans to steal from even more honest people because you think that will give you money is great, people should get together to do bad things.

4- normal relationships are boring, better be lesbian, it usually fixes all the bad things in life.

5- leaving your kid for money is a good thing.

It's not that the movie is cynical, it's also a movie that sends all the bad messages, I know this is just a movie but come on, this is trash. Sadly, it is appropiate trash for most people who is fine by voting a 5 on beautiful movies and giving this a 6 or a 9. Humanity is completely lost.

Finally.....
26 November 2019
Finally, a simple story, told in simple terms. No excessive dialog, in fact, very sparce. Focusing on a single guy, and probably 1 other secondary cast but that's about it.

At last, a series that shows how storytelling should work. No need to be politically correct, no need to add BS so everyone insecure person on the planet feels happy. NO need to add extra useless dialog, no need to add explanations that treats the viewer as a moron. No need to add things that do not contribute to the character development... no need for stupid faces, stupid lines, stupid scenes.

The series is short, the story could be told in 10 minute, episodes feel short even with a short story, much emphasis on making you feel like you're there. The 80's vibe is all over the place but not imposed on you, it feels like it's flowing, really flowing, product of intelligent minds running the project.

No need to spoil things for you, this is how all the movies post Chapter IV, V and VI should had followed. This is how starwars stories should be told, Solo movie being the worst of them all.

This is how star wars is felt on videogames, this is how you make a masterpiece.

The best episode of Black Mirror
21 May 2018
I know "black mirror fans" hates this one because it's not 'bleak' or maybe because it doesn't turn out with a bad ending, maybe it is a little clitche at the ending but guess what... it's THE BEST black mirror produced so far.

I've been a fan of the series since season 1, this episode is by far the best structured with one of the most fulfilling stories, good characters, a flawed and perfectly executed villain and an incredible story well told.

This is what cinema should be about. We shouldn't be judging chapters by how "similar" they are to the concept or if it's doing the series a well deserved black ending, we should be enjoying chapters for how good they are written how satisfying they are.

Being a Trek fan AND a gamer, I would say I loved all the references. There are lots of good details inside, this is my new found GEM.

So dissapointed by everything
8 May 2018
After watching La Casa de Papel by Alex Piña, I was thrilled to find out that he previously did El Barco.

We started the series with much anticipation, the premise is about as good as it can be but after 5 episodes, reality step-in and I was starting to see what this whole series is about: a pseudo sci-fi meet colombian sunday drama gone bad.

The series had such a good premise and good start but soon after, it is clear that the writers had nothing going for it besides doing a bachelor party inside a ship with people that feels more like children than wannabe adults.

One of the worse things about this series is how they portrait the characters. They are all one-dimensional teens with emotional complexes. I am Argentinian and I know that Latin Americans are emotionals by nature but these guys/girls surpases even my wildest expectations. For no aparent reason, everyone is bound to yell at each other, scream and have sex like there is not reasoning behind it.

If this is what's left of humanity they should just sink the boat and be done with it. The level of stupidity is amazing. By the fifth chapter, the only real interesting character is Ulises. It's like he is surrounded by complete idiots that loves to insult him for no reason at all, even the captain.

To make matters worse, the screenwrite just love tits, there is no other way of saying it. The girls are lovely but they are too much PLAYBOY type to fit properly into their characters and they insist on showing up close up of their titties without much consideration. The make up make it much worse as they they all look like they came out of the styling room.

0 realism. This is not normal people, this are actors in a reality show. Bad escenography, bad sript, idiotic one-liners, unidimensional characters, playboy girls with excessive makeup, constant titties closups and dumb emotional reactions does not make for a good series. This is a crappy sunday telenovel disguised as interesting sci-fi drama.

I just can't believe the director is the same behind La Casa de Papel. This is insulting.

I feel compelled to give my opinion... this is GARBAGE !!!
28 September 2016
I love to review movies, in fact, I own a blog where I review movies and TV chapters because, yes, I do like to give my opinion about these things. My native language is NOT English but Spanish so It's harder for me to express in another language as fluently as my native tongue but here it is..

I felt COMPELLED to give my rating and comment because, I was a fan of ID4 (the original, not this atrocity). I grow up with the image of those mother-ships striking the empire state and the white house.

I consider the original predictable in some parts and full of American reference but BRILLIANT in how it handled the beginning of the movie up to the point of the actual ATTACK. I consider that Roland Emmerich and it's team did a SUPERB job at creating a captivating moment and the tension leading up to the attack is very real.

I watched the original 3 times in a row, in cinemas and I got goosebumps each time. I own the special edition DVD and watched it more than 20 times already.

I really wanted to like this and so I am biased, biased towards giving it a higher score because I loved the original, but still.. I give it a 1 out of 10. In fact, if I wasn't a fan of the original I would probably give it a -5.

The reasons I'm so mad at Roland Emmerich is that he really strike a cord in me, he now royally made me mad in ways no other director did, in fact, I consider him BELOW Uwe Boll level for this one.

Characters: For starters, he shows a complete disregard for the lovable characters he created in the original, they are all shadows of what they once were, he over-cliché everything with the beard-long hair and grumpy-attitude of the Doctor Ookun and the Ex-President.

He went ahead and created like 10 more characters, totally unnecessary, to... whatever he wanted to do.. which... didn't worked.

The movie is so full of characters that jumps from one place to another that we end up feeling like there is no script at all !. Just a mumble-jumble mess of characters giving one-liners that ends up in nothing.

Special Effects: Doing several star-ships wasn't enough, he wanted to showcase the power of the new armada by making a GIANT spaceship, the size of a planet... truth be told, the special effect is well done but it's not terrifying anymore. The thing that made the original so cool is the fact that we see several ships, a mother-ship, tons of armadas and tons of ships, it FELT like an invasion.. in this movie it feels like DUMB aliens who made an ULTRA BIGGER spaceship with zero armada, just to IMPRESS the humans.

Script: There is not script, basically, we have to believe this huge armada is run by a SINGLE QUEEN who behaves like a MORON with no BRAINS. There are scenes that feels coming out directly from your worst SCI FI B-MOVIE nightmare, I won't go into details because I don't want to spoil your suffering, when you actually watch it (if you dare).

One-Liners: This must be about the WORSE thing on the whole movie. All the characters are bend on delivering one-liners that feels like humanity had devolved in intelligence.

When I started the movie I wanted the humans to win.. after watching the first HALF and ENDURING the pain of having to hear ludicrous lines of dialogue I REALLY WANTED the Aliens to reduce the planet to DUST. BUT after seeing the colossal failure on the aliens reasoning.. I wanted a BIG 50km ASTEROID to hit the earth and take humanity, the spaceship and the f*** aliens out in SMOKE.

Having all died at the end would be a lot more satisfying ending than we've got.

The last line of the movie is just like the tag line, seriously, who could watch a SCI FI movie with the tag line "They messed with the wrong planet".

That resumes the whole idea for this movie.

Recommended only for kids of 6 years and under that never watched the original. Anything more and you're going to CRY at the screen.

We should make a petition so they kick Roland Emmerich from directing and RUINING the third part.

I always hated the guy and his movies and I liked this one, very much
11 August 2016
I personally never liked any of his movies, with the exception of Armageddon. Yes it was super cliché but I liked the subject matter and some of the sequences, the rest? not so much, Pearl Harbor? don't get me started.

I always considered Michael Bay as a solid money grabber, soul-less human being with zero ability to direct.

I watched this movie expecting the worst and I was shockingly impressed. It was well directed with almost perfect fighting sequences, maybe a little on the long side but solid nevertheless.

Long gone is the typical American Flag sequence and patriotism so characteristic of his movies, this was replaced with realistic fighting sequences, shameful attitude from north America to this soldiers and the consequences of war without turning the movie into glorification of conflict.

Having him on such a low esteem from the start, the sole fact that I was impressed by the movie should speak volumes about his accomplishment.

The Call Up (2016)
3/10
Interesting premise that was poorly executed with bad CGI, acting and soundtrack
27 July 2016
Since IMDb is filled now with fake reviews and comments about this movie I feel compelled to write my opinion, trying to balance the force a little.

I tried the movie with my kid, I got the title and was very intrigued that it's gonna be an Occulus 3.0 experience or something of the sort.

I gotta say this, because this is a review and I'm gonna be honest, the premise was good, the first act (the preparation) was solid but the director slipped through it's fingers some errors that are worth checking.

First of all, this is a movie about Gamers that somehow are living in a future earth, so, they have super advanced smartphones and cards with screens but they somehow have video games with pre-xbox360 graphics (despicted on the game-play from the screen of one of the character's home).

The movie proceed then to a nice first act in which we see the Gamers prepping for the game. The offices, the suits and the helmets were a nice touch and I must say they were a good fit to the movie (if not one of the strongest points).

BUT As soon as the actions starts (the first 10 minutes of VR) you kinda see what the rest of the movie will be like.

The scenery is EXTREMELY limited, the script is non-existent, the "missions" stops being missions and starts being just "walk and kill", not a single video game of this era will support this kind of nonsense gaming, they need to have a plausible argument.

In this movie, the director switches the argument for the character development, he places all the stereotypical ones, the shy girl, the psycho, the ego-maniac fat guy who lives in the basement, the.. you get the point. Not a single stereotype was missing, this.. was not a good starting point, to be honest.

Since the movie is all about them, we get lost in a sea of corridors, switching from room A to room B and then to Room C, but then you kinda get the point. There is NO room D ! The whole movie is filmed in no more than 3 rooms, and 1 or 2 corridors with very poor scenery, they even had the guts to film several scenes with the same rooms in the same angle !. IF you're going to film a movie with few rooms at least try to switch angles.

Tip to the director: YOU CAN make a good movie with no scenery at all, I know you know because this movie seems to follow the same progression as the movie THE CUBE. Yes, you can bet. Those who saw the movie will see the similarities.

The ending was good but again, too similar to the movie THE CUBE.

For anyone reading this review, if you somehow liked the premise and you still didn't know what THE CUBE is, go watch it and you'll be amazed, that's a serious SCI FI horror movie worth of your consideration.

This movie could of been so much better if they hired better actors, Morfydd Clark was the only one doing a good job, all the rest was mediocre, being the guy who acted as "the Sargent" one of the worse actors I ever seen in my life.

Finally, I would not dare to speak too much about the music because I do really believe that the musician is just incompetent. Trying to make a soundtrack about a VR video game with CASIO tone music from the 80's is only gonna make Gamers more angry at you.

Gamers are not dumb stereotypes like the ones in the movie, that listen to CASIO tone music, stuck in a basement and still playing 1995 games. The world has changed, video game industry has evolved to a point in which soundtracks are becoming an essential part of any video game. I've seen incredible soundtracks from games where the budget was 3 times less than budget movies so this is really not an excuse to make an horrible soundtrack.

Talking about FX on this one is like talking about how does a video game looked 5 years ago, because, seriously, the CGI was so bad that my Xbox can render better in-game graphics than some of the scenes of this movie, specially the "exteriors". They could be avoided and we should of get a much better product. Bad FX tend to somehow hurt a movie much more than it should.

Good movies could be made with almost no special effects and there are plenty of examples out there. As a rule of thumb, if you're not going to produce an acceptable FX, it's better not to do it and hide it, it's gonna be a much better overall execution than to do it badly, tons of directors did great things following this path.

All in all, the movie premise was good, the execution was really poor, all the middle is just expendable material and the ending is good but since it's almost a ripoff from THE CUBE and others, it doesn't create a rewarding experience.

The only redeeming factors of this movie are: the first minutes, the concept, some bits of the ending and the legs of Morfydd Clark on that amazing suit, that's it.

The movie is a solid 3/10 If you somehow are a fan of budget movies, there are WAY better movies out there. You can start by watching Kill Command for example.

Alien Outpost (2014)
7/10
Refreshing, well crafted, intelligent sci-fi
1 May 2016
After watching the movie in spite of the low score I felt compelled to write a review.

Sorry about the expression but... What-The-Hell with the low score?. Is this for real?.

I was expecting a pure-garbage shaky-cam non-stop-action with non- existent character development and/or story and I got all the above reversed!.

Really, if you're trying to find out if this movie is good or not, read the reviews, don't believe the score.

Alien Outpost starts a little slow but with solid character development, all the soldiers had their personalities and they are all lovable in their own way, you get to know them, the action sequences are not over- the-top and also very rare, aside from the final moments.

This is a movie that focus almost entirely on the story and it's characters, it's actually a sci-fi movie that intends on telling you a good sci-fi story and for me it succeeds.

If only they could get more money and resources to do it, this could easily surpass any of the Hollywood crap i've seen lately.

As an invasion-alien movie it's somewhat average, as a solid sci-fi with a good mix of action and drama, this movie excels.

Thumbs up for the solid acting, the nice story that stays with you after you finish watching it and for the imaginative script, I'm actually looking forward to the next movie, which I'm sure it can be a success if they're allowed to make it.

People, stop reading numbers, just watch this movie, you won't regret it, except if you like stupid movies that depend on incredible CGI and dumb plots.

Congrats for the accomplishment.

Astonishing
11 January 2016
Friday night, alone, tired of wanting to see something on Netflix and not liking anything then I said to myself, I'm going to watch the worse possible TV series so i can just turn it off early and go to sleep.

I found Lady and started watching it right away and I was ready to turn it off... but I couldn't and I didn't, instead, I kept watching, and watching, and watching....

3 hours later it was 7am in the morning and I finally finished watching Episode 3.

2 Weeks later, my whole family got hooked when I said to them... YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!... they started watching with a WTF face but I knew they were going to get hooked... and they did.

Wife and 2 kids and we all got into Episode 9.

Then came the friends and family from my brother... So i told them.. "we are going to watch an episode of a Colombian series on Netflix..." they replied to me "are you freaking kidding me".. oh but I knew what will happen.

We started on Episode 8... sooner than later, that same night we were onto Episode 11.

So, this Series passed the test as successful for my wife, my kids, my friends, my brother's family and more friends, not a single one of them said it was boring.

Why is it that is SO ADICTIVE?

Characters, they are freaking brilliant, the acting is also on par, it's freaking amazing, the little girl that play the role as little Lady is amazing, so full of life, Ms Michelle Orozco you're about the cutest and most brilliant girl i've ever seen on a series, Maria Jose Vargas doing as Lady's friend Yurani is also very cute and they are both incredible talented.

The rest of the cast is amazing, the acting is so well played, you get instantly hooked with them and their lives, plus the directing is top- notch. This is a deep story that works as a roller coaster. It doesn't matter if you don't speak Spanish, see with it subtitles. The series is far better than most junk Hollywood produces these days, it really stands out and I mean, BIG.

Kudos to all the team, If I ever travel to Colombia I would love to meet Ms Michelle Orozco in person, I'm a new fan of her work and my whole family loves her... I'm dying to see how Natalia Reyes plays her role as an older Lady !

The Wave (2015)

A simple and yet superb disaster movie
13 December 2015
What does it take to make a good disaster movie? Good F/X?, Complex storyline?, intricate scenes?, massive destruction?... nothing of the sort.

Good buildup and nice character development, that's it.

That's what this movie is all about. A simple story, yet, very powerful in the way it was made.

From the first 10 minutes you'll get the point, this is gonna be a movie focused on our characters, this are people living a simple life, yet, full of good intentions and surrounded by good company in a small town with an incredible scenery and this is gonna be a movie about them, having to deal with a disaster none expects. The disaster it's there as a test to their resolve, not as the main attraction of the movie, be aware of that before watching it.

The story unfolds at slow pace but with impeccable character development and directing, to match this we have a superb soundtrack that it's not excessive nor subtle and always, to the point.

Our main hero is very lovable and yet, honest and simple. If you're expecting a super-hero like San Andreas, you'll be sorely disappointed, yet, if you think what would you do if a massive wave hits your town, you will feel identified with our main lead here.

I love disaster movies and this is one of them, It never lost my interest. The movie ends as it starts, simple and yet, highly enjoyable due to being superbly directed through and through.

If you're fond of disaster movies which puts their characters in the first place, without super excessive heroic scenes and a believable script, you must see this one, you'll be surprised.

This IS the anti-Hollywood of disaster movies, thanks good for that!

400 Days (2015)
4/10
Starts with a good premise but goes downhill to a place you'll hate it
12 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Stranded or isolated group of people movies are common trend these days, with all those reality shows and experiment shows.

What better than to make a movie about depth space mission as a reality show experiment?

Enter 400 days. As the title of the movie says, a group of 4 people must spend 400 days isolated in what appears to be a ship but it's actually a bunker.

The movie consist on 2 acts, in the first one we see a psychological thriller in which the group must face with the fact they are isolated and need to come to terms with each other and solve the obstacles to progress. It's slow-paced but good, the acting is appropriate and the slow parts are necessary to balance the shocker parts.

This is all good but the problem I have is with the second part, this is were the movie does a transformation, it goes from being a solid 6 points movie to a somewhat bad adaptation of a poorly written B-movie, with poorly written B-movie actors included.

Watching this transformation unfold on screen is tedious, sad and disgusting and by the time the end comes, the whole experience reach a climax in which the viewer is left with a WTF moment (and not a good one) and the writers pretending to be smart but showing that they really don't care about the story or the viewer.

It's something like, this is good, what else could we do with it.. yeah I don't know... okay, let's cut the movie right there... bang, titles..

Suffice to say the movie does not get more than a 4 and that's high enough and you should skip it, don't say I didn't warned you.

If you're looking for good SCIFI, go see the reverse of this movie, go watch Infini.

Totally impressed, I did NOT expected something like this
10 December 2015
And it was late at night, with nothing to do besides watching a movie and sure, why not watch an unknown about space and aliens, because, I already watched them all and I'm a Scifi freak after all.

Sufice to say that my expectations with the movie were nearly zero, that's very low so the movie had to do magic for me to keep watching, which I wasn't intent to do because I was tired and looking for an excuse to get bored and turn off the TV.

With all that background from me you can guess that something happened in the first 10 minutes of the movie that kept me watching, and then something happened at 30 minutes mark and then I couldn't get my eyes out of the movie and then my face was all twisted by the mere shock of watching something that seems to be nothing and have a bit of everything (like another reviewer pointed out wisely)

Suffice to say the movie is incredible well directed, feels like a cheap low budget at first but slowly and surely scale up the ranks to become a serious contender as one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen this year, a total shocker for someone who was expecting to get bored !!

The pace is right, the actors were a complete surprise, the argument is one of THE BEST parts of the movie and the scenery complements that to perfection.

This movie takes bits and pieces of everything we had seen before, a bit from Pandorum, a bit from Aliens and as a pleasant surprise, several bits of the video game classic Dead Space.

If you're reading this, the movie feels like a prequel to the first game in many aspects and it's freaking awesome in it's own way.

Nothing is forced and the music complements all this with a perfect match of alien-esque components ala-James Horner and then some.

Seeing as the movie has a very good directing, sound, music, splendid acting and a solid script, I would say that IMDb score definitely is several points off where it should be.

If you, like me, are bored of seeing the same crappy SCIFI movies and have the chance to watch this one, please, please, give it a chance, you will be as surprised as I am.

The ending is... well, instrumental to the story and blend perfectly so as to put YOU in the center... the movie's ending is ambiguous and invites the viewer to draw his/her own conclusions, I'm sure you'll love it too.

This movies goes into the major leagues, right up there with the very good ones, very solid work and totally recommended, don't trust the scores, always read the reviews first.

PD: I want one of that sound devices, they should had use it more, that was an incredible good idea!

Supergirl (2015–2021)
5/10
I wanted to like this so much...
9 December 2015
Let me start by saying I love Melissa Benoist, she is so dam cute, in fact, the only reason I started watching this is because of her in a SuperGirl suit... but... that's about it.

The pilot episode was an infernal mess, where do I start...

The characters are horrible depicted, they don't have any progression whatsoever and the lines are said like they are reading from a cardboard, they don't act their roles... at all.. this is some serious bad writing/directing in place.

The Pilot goes from being an idiot to a super girl to beating a villain to joining a secret organization in just 40 minutes, they tried to crunch so much into so little time that character development went to trash..

The second episode didn't improved either, in fact, it made it worse, the only thing bearable from this series is looking at the gorgeous Melissa wearing that hot sexy super girl outfit but, believe me, that's about the only thing you can do on this series, nothing else makes sens, the second episode even have bad editing and camera work, you can clearly see cut scenes where the actors suddenly change positions, even Melissa seems distracted all the time and there are moments when you swear she is looking at the camera !!

Horrible miscast, except for Melissa, incredible bad acting, really bad directing and the writer should be fired like... NOW.

This is a disaster, I don't think it will finish filming season 1 and I'm sad because I still think Melissa was the cutest Supergirl i've seen but she can't do a series by herself if all the team surrounding her is incompetent.

Skip it, or just watch it if you like Melissa and want to see her in a Supergirl suit to fantasize about it because, frankly, there isn't anything more to do here.

Horrible bosses, disgusting script, lame jokes...
29 January 2015
I felt compelled to write a review for this piece of garbage of a movie, I know i'm just one guy but at least my vote will count on lowering this trash 1 millimeter down from this incredible high score.

Horrible bosses is a movie so disgusting in it's dialog and implications that, the only way someone will like it is if: 1- He/she has been lobotomized or so self absorbed by media that the brain stopped working correctly.

2- He/she is a pervert, a social deviant or some kind of anger guy who hates everyone in his job.

The jokes are so lame, so harsh, so evil in places and so plain disgusting that they really hurt my stomach watching.

Of course I had to stop the movie after 30 minutes, there is no way I could tolerate anymore.

If you like watching disgusting people in horrible situations thinking horrible solutions to their problems while they chat about sex like they were wiping their crap with their own hands (because that's how harsh the dialog is) then this movie is for you.

If you on the contrary want to watch an actual comedy, avoid this horrible piece of trash at all costs.

This is the typical movie for the brainless masses and what really disturb me the most, is the amount of good reviews it got, really?!, society must be in a very new low, someone even recommended this movie on a date !, I am sure that if I saw this movie on my first date, I will still be single, this is a horrible movie for a date!, a horrible movie for watching with friends, completely inappropriate movie to watch near any kids, I would not allow even a teenage boy to watch it, let's be honest. This is not a recommended movie, period.

I really hope comedy is not going to degenerate any more or else I will be forced to not watch the genre anymore.

0 out of 10 and a shame and a waste of good actors.

Dread...
23 December 2014
Denzel Washington, a nice job, a kind man and a predicament when he sees how some gang leader hit a nice prostitute, some nice dialog and a good start.

That's about the kindest thing I could say about the movie, after the first 15 minutes the whole premise went downhill.

This has to be the worst action movie in a long time, there is absolutely no tension whatsoever when you see a seemingly indestructible guy because Hollywood says so that is able to take down and destroy pretty much everyone in his path.

This is pure Hollywood American propaganda where the Latinos are weak, the Americans are super powerful and Russians are just gangs and psychopaths.

Total and absolute waste of time with excessive violence and really uncalled for.

Denzel, I like your inspirational talks but you gotta stop doing this unnecessary violent movies.

Not recommended for anyone.
