A Disappointment!
28 November 2023
We already have enough reality TV. I watched the first 25 minutes of the first episode and couldn't watch anymore. I was expecting a new season of the Squid Game and they put on a reality TV show instead. I hope they have another season of the regular show coming out instead of this dull and boring stuff. My guess is that the original show was so popular, that they tried to take the easy way out by riding the coattails of the original show, and turning it into a reality TV series. It doesn't take very much imagination to do that. I also suspect that it requires very little budget as well. Not to mention that, instead of using actors, they put regular people on who will get paid a lot less money.

Anyway, I give this show an emphatic thumbs down and I will be deleting this trash off of "My List."

A little too much singing
4 August 2023
This episode would have worked if it had less singing and more dialogue. If I wanted to watch a musical I wouldn't turn on Star Trek; likewise, if I want to watch Sci-Fi I wouldn't turn on Grease. I just wound up advancing through the singing parts. The sad thing is, alternate realities (like they are trying to portray) are cool science fiction; that and time travel. I did enjoy the crossover episode with Lower Decks a few weeks ago. Hopefully, this will be the last time they do something like this with all this singing. There are so many cool things that a creative mind can conceive without such a distraction as this.

Quantum Leap (2022–2024)

This Has Potential to Be a Great Show!
12 November 2022
I loved the storyline of this new series. One of the things I didn't like about the original Quantum Leap was that there was almost no focus on what was going on at the Quantum Leap control center until the much later years of the series. This sequel shows the drama occurring on both sides of the timeline from day one. I felt the earlier series missed out on many good storylines because of this.

I also like that Dr. Benjamin Song (Raymond Lee) and Addison Augustine (Caitlin Bassett) have a romantic relationship. I think that ups the stakes during some intense times during the leaps.

Before we write the new Quantum Leap off, let's give it a chance and see what happens. I will keep an open mind as I watch it and watch for improved interactions with the actors as the season progresses before I make a final judgment.

Let's talk about the acting: In many sequel series, we are especially critical of the acting because actors are not clicking like in the original series. We should give them time to get used to working and interacting. A prime example of this was when I watched the first few episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." I thought the acting was horrible in the first few episodes, so I didn't watch it again for a few years. When I returned to watch it again, I was impressed. It went on to be a classic series once everyone learned their parts.

When a reboot or a sequel series appears, we often judge it by the prior one or the version of the series that impressed us most. I noticed most of the reviews here do just that. That said, some reviews call this a reboot, which it isn't. While it embraces the original story of Quantum Leap as it was, this is a forward-looking sequel or continuation.

Charmed (2018–2022)

This Charmed Reboot is the Opposite of the Original Series
16 January 2021
The original Charmed (1998) was a show with more drama than comedy. This reboot has been designed to be more comedy than drama. This puts the two versions of Charmed at the opposite ends of each other. If you expect this show to be the same as the original series you will, of course, be disappointed. I watched all of the original series and all of this 2018 reboot to date and I have enjoyed them both. For those who are looking for a serious drama, this show may not be for you; if you are looking for some laughs, you will definitely find them here!

Inspector Gadget (2015–2018)

An Intentionally Silly Series that Makes You Laugh!
20 July 2020
I admit that when I saw the first few episodes that I was not all that impressed by this sequel series. I missed the original theme song and the characters were just not quite the same. However, as the series moved into Season 2, and then Season 3, it gets better (or maybe you just adjust to the characters I don't know). You just have to get past expecting this to be some kind of reboot and see this for what it is; a newly designed series of Inspector Gadget.

This series has some subtle adult content going on between Penny and Talon. Most kids, however, would be oblivious to what is happening.

Inspector Gadget is even funnier in his level of bumbling into solving the cases he is assigned. Dr. Claw is just as silly as Gadget in choosing his villainous capers too.

Bottom line: Some humor is more subtle than others. This humor in this series is not subtle; this series is designed to be so outwardly silly that you laugh at what is happening. Once you realize this, it is quite enjoyable to watch!

DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Meet the Legends (2020)
Season 5, Episode 2

This Episode Was So Bad...
22 January 2020
Yeah, they were getting a bit outside the box last season, but there were still some pretty good scenes last year.

This episode was idiotic! Inviting the press along to a trip down the timeline and framing the episode like it was a TV documentary. I have never been a fan of this format in other TV shows ether. I didn't find the plot the least bit funny or exciting.

I love the DC Legends because I enjoy stories about time travel. I can take bending the rules a little, but this literally broke and destroyed any semblance of reality.

Noah (2014)

Christians Beware!
29 March 2014
After seeing this movie, I could kick myself for not doing some research first. My wife and I heard that there was a movie opening called Noah and thinking this would be similar to The Ten Commandments, we rushed out to see it. Big mistake!

I didn't expect it to follow 100% with scripture as there are many blanks to fill in when telling a story from the Old Testament. However, this movie drastically re-wrote scripture. The worst parts were the rock men that looked like transformers and the way they portrayed Noah as a ruthless man intent on carrying out "the creator's will" as Noah perceives it. Another issue was that God wasn't mentioned by name in the movie. I could cite dozens more examples, but you get the idea.

If you like fiction, you might enjoy this movie. If you want a story that parallels the Bible, then my advice is to stay away.

As far as my rating, I gave this rating of 1 Star out of my own belief that if a story is about the Bible and you totally disregard the source, then you should give it a different name that doesn't imply it is Biblical. Using the Bible to draw people in who would otherwise be offended is just plain wrong. Also, there are people out there that never read the Bible who might see this and think that is what the Bible says about these events.

The Linkletter Show (1952–1970)
6/10
A Show For All Ages
17 March 2014
I remember this show from when I was a preteen. I enjoyed watching the children that were my own age that he would have on as guests; it was what kept me watching what was otherwise an adult show. He would have several kids sitting in chairs and would ask them various questions. It was very interesting to me at that age to hear what kids from other parts of the country had to say.

Art Linkletter had a talent as a TV host that appealed to people of all ages. House Party aired on TV and was also broadcast on the radio during its history. This show is a reminder of how television has evolved over the past 50-60 years and how it will never be the same again. Somehow, life seemed much simpler back then, as was television in those days.

Grey's Anatomy: Song Beneath the Song (2011)

Too Much Singing!
22 August 2011
I would have given this a single star, but the plot was a good one. What could have been a really emotional episode was completely destroyed by way too much singing. After the tragic event that occurs at the start of the episode, there was not much more than five minutes of dialog (or so it seemed) in the rest of the episode. It's not that I don't like musicals, my wife and I love musicals. We loved The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Grease and so many more! Perhaps if they had chosen a different episode that was less dramatic and more upbeat and sang a little less the format would have worked. My complaint isn't about how well they sang, but about the fact there was so little dialog in a story that really needed it! Whenever another song would break out, my wife and I would look at each other and say, "Not again!" As one other reviewer put it (and I agree with their assessment) this episode even fell below the one where they had the TV crew doing interviews with them.

This episode was not a TV drama, it was a music video! The producers would have done much better to write a music video and release it separately on DVD if they were trying to showcase Sara Ramirez's voice.

Soñarás (2004)
5/10
Not One of the Best Telenovelas I have seen
5 April 2009
On face value, Soñarás appears to be a telenovela made for a younger crowd because of the focus on the youth in the story. While it had its entertaining moments, the story lacked a logical flow and it was easy to get lost.

Soñarás starts with a young man named Rey who has dreams of professionally singing one day. He is poor, unconnected and lives with his grandparents. He is a waiter at a night club run by the principal villain in the story named Don Pedro. Rey's life gets very complicated when he falls in love with Isabella, a wealthy young lady who also happens to be the girlfriend of Don Pedro's son, Alfredo. Add to that, Rey's sleazy ex-girlfriend, Dolores returning after running away with another man and set on regaining Rey's love at any cost. Your typical plot for a telenovela.

While I did enjoy Soñarás for the most part, I didn't like the way people were dropped out of the story with no real explanation of what happened to them and how quickly those who left were forgotten. Because of the lack of continuity; I gave this telenovela 5 stars.

A Total New Definition of the Word Humor!
18 November 2006
Okay, I have to admit that I was skeptical when I heard the storyline. I really thought how funny could this be? Then I started hearing all these incredible reviews and watched the trailer. I decided to go see it.

I am glad I did too. The movie was one laugh right after another! The United States prides itself on being a politically correct nation. This movie lets us throw that term right out the window for 84 hilarious minutes. That is a big part of what makes this movie work so well.

Borat Sagdiyev comes to the United States to try and learn as much as he can about our country and put it into a documentary for his people. The language barrier and the incompatibility of his customs with ours makes for a clash of cultures that will have you walking out of the theater with a smile on your face and wanting more! This movie isn't for everyone though.

It has a R rating and rightfully so. If you are easily offended by crude humor or offended by politically incorrect remarks, you should stay far away from this movie. However, if you can see this movie for what it is; a fun comedy, you will love it and have a great time! I sure did!

A Wonderful Comedy with a Message for All of Us!
15 July 2006
After reading all the comments and seeing many of the great critics blow off this movie, I was a bit skeptical. I decided it looked like a fun movie and went to go see it. I am glad that I did!

Adam Sandler plays Michael Newman who is a workaholic and finds out what dangers lie ahead for those who spend more time with their work than their family. This movie projects both comedy and a message that hits home for an over-worked generation of people.

The movie opens with Michael Newman wishing he had more time to spend with his family, but has a manipulative boss (played by David Hasselhoff) who makes Michael decide between him and his family. Michael, thinking that providing for his family is what is most important always seems to go with his work over spending time with his family.

Meanwhile, the boy next door is always bragging about all the nice things his family has and all the wonderful things his parents buy him. Hearing this and knowing that he wants to do the same for his family makes Michael all the more determined to provide for his family.

One day, needled by his kids that the family next door has a universal remote that controls the TV, Stereo, VCR, DVD, etc. (and Michael being tired of always picking up the wrong remote to do what he wants) decides to treat himself and go out looking for a universal remote control. He then meets a mysterious man named Morty (played by Christopher Walken) who gives him a brand new, not-yet-on-the-market, universal remote that will control everything.

When he gets home he later discovers that this is more than just a remote control for things around the house. It it is a remote control for his entire life. What starts out as fun soon turns into a nightmare for poor Michael and in it is a lesson to be learned for all of us. The remote control takes over Michael's life and what happens next is both funny and sad at the same time.

I highly recommend everyone take a workaholic friend or significant other to see this movie. There is a lot of humor and a great message for every one of us in it!

Bewitched (2005)
1/10
Very disappointing!
3 July 2005
The movie starts with Will Farrel playing a failing self-centered movie star, reduced to being in a remake of the TV series, Bewitched. He doesn't want anyone to out do him so he seeks out an unknown actress to play Samantha (Nicole Kidman), who turns out to be a real witch. I knew the movie was in trouble when I saw the trailers! As such, I wasn't expecting much, but was all the more disappointed by what I saw. It didn't even come close to my low expectations! They had look-alike actors playing the parts of Uncle Arthur (Steve Carell) & Aunt Clara (Carole Shelley) as well, but not on the TV set in the movie, they were shown as being related to the real life side of Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman), like they really were her true relatives. That made it extremely silly. In my opinion, this movie is not even worth renting the DVD for (when it comes out), let alone paying full price to see it! I was an avid fan of Bewitched from the TV show in the 60's. That show was cute, charming and entertaining. I feel this was a very sloppy attempt to redo Bewitched in a way that is an insult to the wonderful TV series.

A Fun Niche Movie!
13 March 2005
While most people will think this film is plain silly, which it is, it is really quite fun too.

With a few exceptions, the film is about your typical late night television and the crazy ads that used to permeate the airwaves before all the infomercials started taking over in the 90's. In this film, they make fun of those crazy ads and programming by doing outrageous spoof ads interspersed with an old 1950's B movie with a lot of projection problems.

Any couch potato with a good sense of humor and a memory of the 70's & 80's television programming should enjoy this one! This is why I call it a niche movie.

The Village (2004)
8/10
Simply Amazing!
1 August 2004
I have to say that "The Village" was not what I expected. It was even better! I rated this an 8 because of the slow start, but once it got my attention I was captivated!

This has all the makings of a great mystery movie. It starts out in a village set at the turn of the century. The town is isolated by from all the nearby towns by woods that have seemingly intelligent, but vicious creatures in them. The elders that run the town say there is a truce, but none-the-less the creatures make their presence known. (Wouldn't be much of a mystery if nothing happened, now would it?)

One of the citizens tries to leave the town to bring needed supplies such as medicine, but is rebuffed by the elders. The people of "The Village" follow their leaders there without question. Most are happy to stay where they are out of fear of the creatures that live in the woods.

This is one of those movies that keep you thinking about it even after you leave because it intentionally doesn't tie up every loose end. Though I usually like resolution in the movies I see, sometimes it has a good fit to certain movies, such as this one. The surprises toward the end will keep you thinking about this for days!

Watch and enjoy!

Wait for the video cassette release
5 July 2003
If you have seen the trailers, you know that the basic plot is that of the dingy, but cute blonde named El, who goes to Washington to try and change the law on testing cosmetics on animals.

One thing a movie that deals with true-life situations must do is to establish `a realism' (could this possibly happen this way) to it. A comedy can go out into left field quite a few times and get away with it, but this movie almost always stays in the outfield. While this movie has a few laughs, it lacks that anchor of having a `remote possibility.' If this had been a fantasy, then such liberties could possibly be taken. It wasn't though; this was about a real life institution, "The US House of Representatives" and getting legislation passed.

The methods she used would never work in Washington. Nor would any of the political figures act the way they did, not even in one's wildest dreams.

The first Legally Blonde movie had the "possibility element" to it and was thoroughly enjoyable. Parts of this movie however are fun, but in this critic's humble opinion, it is one best suited to wait until the video cassette/DVD release.

A Really Great Sequel!
7 June 2003
Most of the people that I talked to who didn't like Matrix Reloaded never saw the first one. I don't think the film makers intended for this to be a stand alone movie, but part of the overall picture.

If you really want to understand what is going on in this movie you need to see the first Matrix movie. Not seeing it would be a lot like missing out on the first Lord of the Rings or Star Wars movie and trying to pick up on what's going on in the second. I can easily see how someone could be totally lost without the background of the first Matrix picture.

The movie provides almost non-stop action. Things start out fast and just keep getting faster!!

This was a really great movie and I am looking forward to the final Matrix movie scheduled for release in November!
