Season 1, Episode 12

Showing Power
24 April 2024
Christina is taken by two Underlay's deputies, and they drop her tied up in the middle of the bay. Larkin returns earlier from the resort and leaves Jess and Rose with Tom. When Russell learns, he heads to his house and only finds Mariel there. Tom did not say their destination to Mariel and his house is the only one in the street with power. Russell sees a man snooping outside the house and chases him, but a second man arrives and hits him from the back. Mariel is treating Russell's wounds when Larkin arrives at her home. Larkin believes Russell is having an affair with Mariel and he discloses the whole situation to her, but she does not believe him. Russell finds that his two aggressors are Underlay's deputies.

"Power" is another great episode of "Invasion". Why does Mariel not leave Tom? Very strange situation after she talked to him by phone. Larkin is maybe the weakest character of this series, with her suspicious and dramas all the time. The conclusion, with Derek, Christina and other people, is intriguing. Is a war coming? My vote is eight.

Invasion: Us or Them (2006)
Season 1, Episode 11

The Pack of Survivors and the Humans
24 April 2024
There is an incident after the meeting of the survivors in the church, when a man is severely assaulted by the participants when he calls the attention of his wife, who is a member of the group. Russell shows Mariel the skeleton of Tom and tells her that Sheriff Underlay is not human but a breed of alien. However, she does not accept his explanation and believes he wants full custody of their children. However, he tells her that he is worried with the children to be in danger with Mariel and Tom. Sheriff Underlay brings Deputy Lewis to his home to recover from the amputation of his arm. Lewis befriends Kira and learns that Tom is not a man of God. Disturbed with the revelation, he leaves Underlay's home. Meanwhile, Larkin, Jess and Rose are having vacation at a resort. Jess meets the gorgeous, but weird college student Emily and befriends her.

"Us or Them" is one of the best episodes so far of "Invasion". The revelation of Russell to Mariel about Tom is scary and one of the best moments of the show. Her reaction is expected but she will certainly think about it. The disappointment of Deputy Lewis Sirk when he learns that Tom is not who he thought it was is sad. The college girl Emily is a very beautiful young woman, but unfortunately Jess is naive and inexperienced snf looses the chance to have goodtime with her. My vote is eight.

The U-Boat Captain
24 April 2024
In 1917, during the World War I, Captain Ernst Hardt (Conrad Veidt) is assigned to travel to the Orkney Island to meet his contact, Fraulein Thiel (Valerie Hobson), to receive orders. Meanwhile, the new schoolteacher Anne Burnett (June Duprez) is intercepted by German spies and thrown off cliffs to look like an accident. Thiel poses of Anne Burnett and tells Capt. Hardt that the German submarine fleet should attack and destroy the British Fleet with the support of the rogue British Officer Ashington (Sebastian Shaw), who lost his position of Commander due to drink problem and is attracted by Thiel, who is his lover. Out of the blue, Burnett's fiancé Rev. John Harris (Cyril Raymond) arrives at her home to visit her but is subdued by the spies and made prisoner. Thiel keeps Capt. Hardt locked in his room during the night for her protection, and he tells his fellow officers in the submarine the plan to destroy the British Fleet. During the night, the lures Burnett and escapes from his room. He sees Burnett meeting Ashington and overhears their conversation, learning that the plan is indeed to destroy the German U-Boat fleet. Now he needs to contact his submarine to disclose the real plan, but the British soldiers are hunting him down.

"The Spy in Black" is a great 1939 (pre-WWII) movie of espionage. The plot is complex, with many twists and a cat-and-mouse game. The German plan is excellent, but the British plan is better and unexpected. My vote is seven.

Monk: Mr. Monk Goes to the Circus (2003)
Season 2, Episode 4

Suck It up!
24 April 2024
An arrogant man is having dinner with his date when a masked acrobat arrives at the restaurant and kills him with one shot in the heart. Stottlemeyer, Randall, Monk and Sharona are investigating the crime scene and soon they learn that the victim is Sergei Cluvarias, the unpopular ringmaster of the Dratch & Denby Traveling Circus. Stottlemeyer suspects of the animal trainer Nikolai Petroff, since he has the weapon of the same caliber that killed Sergei, is an acrobat apprentice and was the lover of Sergei's date Ariana Dakkar. However, Monk believes that Sergei's ex-wife Natasha Lovara, who is a skilled trapeze acrobat and shooter, is the killer. But the problem is that Natasha has a broken feet confirmed by X-rays. Meanwhile, Sharona has a trauma with elephants and Monk tells her that her fear is irrational, and she should "suck it up!". Sharona feels offended by Monk and is estranged to him. When the elephant's trainer Edgar Heinz is murdered by his elephant, Monk analyzes the odds and concludes Natasha has killed him. But how to prove both murderers?

"Mr. Monk Goes to the Circus" is another funny episode of Monk. His phobia with the police officer that is his fan but is not wearing a pair of identical socks is silly, but the clown in the circus when Monk is solving the case is funny. The reaction of Sharona when Monk says "suck it up" to her is fair, since her boss has many phobias, and this comment was not appropriate. My question is how a skilled radiologist can not identify old fractures from new ones. But the murders are well-resolved in the end. My vote is seven.

Abducted and Amputated
23 April 2024
Dave is abducted early in the morning by a strange couple, Pria and Healy, who read his Blog about the aftermath of the Hurricane Eve. He is brought to an abandoned military base and Russell tracks him down. Meanwhile, Lewis investigates the dead woman and learns that the coroner found she had salt water in her lungs. When he discloses to Sheriff Underlay, he sends him to the bay with the pretext to find polluted water. An orange being takes Lewis and when he reappears, he has two arms. Now Sheriff Underlay uses his faith to convince Lewis to amputate his arm since the miracle was a test of God.

"Origin of Species" is a strange episode of "Invasion". Russell and Dave learn that the same phenomena happened in Cuba and Brazil, but in these countries, people committed suicide. Sheriff Underlay is a despicable character that destroys Lewis, who was close to the truth with his investigation. My vote is seven.

Following the Priest's Advice
22 April 2024
Russell brings Larkin to a paradisiacal place in the bay for a picnic. However, he finds the fishes and a crocodile dead in the area. He heads to and breaks in the house of the drug dealers Bob and Carla Hemming and asks him what poison he has dropped in the bay. When Carla comes with a gun, Russell takes the gun and threatens Bob, but Larkin stops him. Bob tells Russell that the animals were already dead, and he did not poison them. Meanwhile, Mariel is ready to tell her friends in the church that she found her body in the water, but Dave arrives in the church to investigate EBE, and she does not complete her speech, believing Russell sent him to watch her. Russell and Larkin bring the crocodile to perform an autopsy with Mona, and Larkin learns that Russell has a criminal record as a juvenile. Mariel asks her husband to dredge the bay to look for her body, and Father Scanlon tells Tom to give something to her not necessarily the truth.

"The Dredge" is an episode of "Invasion" where the mystery of Mariel's body remains. Father Jeffrey Scanlon gives an advice to Sheriff Tom Underlay and he certainly replaced her body by the one of another woman to satisfy his wife. The drama of Larkin, when she learns that Russell has a juvenile criminal record is ridiculous. Dave will now participate in the meetings in the church to investigate the presence of aliens and may give something interesting to this dramatic series that looks more like a soap opera than a sci-fi series. My vote is seven.

Monk: Mr. Monk Goes to the Ballgame (2003)

The Three-Million- Dollar Ball
22 April 2024
The wealthy Lawrence Hammond and his wife Erin follow the GPS of his car to a resort and end in a deserted parking lot, where a criminal kills them. On the next morning, Monk and Sharona arrive at the crime scene to investigate the murder of the powerful man. Stottlemeyer and Randall Disher believe that Lawrence was the victim and investigate his enemies, but Monk believes Erin was the victim and Lawrence was a collateral damage. Monk investigates her personal life and finds that she was in love with the baseball player Scott Gregorio, who is close to break the record of the famous player Darryl Grant but was recently attacked by a man with a baseball bat. He contacts Scott, who is deeply affected by Erin's death, and they become friends during the investigation.

"Mr. Monk Goes to the Ballgame" is an episode recommended for fans of baseball. The empathy between Scott and Monk is nice since both are grieving the death of the beloved woman. The scene where Monk erases Michael Jordan's autograph in the football's ball of Grant's agent is one of the funniest scenes in the series. The dispute between Stottkemeyer's son and Benjy is silly. My vote is seven.

The Holy War
22 April 2024
Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is accepted by part of the Fremen and Stilgar (Javier Bardem) believes he is the promised one Lisan al Gaib from the prophecy of the people from North. Paul learns the costumes of the Fremen and falls in love with Chani (Zendaya). However, Stilgar and his mother Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) want Paul to go to the South to join forces and fight the House Harkonnen and the Emperor, but Paul is afraid of the outcome, since he had a vision of many casualties in the showdown of the Holy War.

"Dune: Part Two" keeps the good level of the Part One, with an engaging adventure. The decision of Paul to stay with the Emperor's daughter instead of Chani is the most confusing part of the movie. The acting is great, and the CGI and special effects are superb. Looking forward to seeing the Part Three. My vote is eight.

Drowned in the Air
22 April 2024
A student jumps from an airplane and does not open his parachute. The coroner Dr. Madero concludes in the autopsy that he drowned in the air. The Major of San Franscisco asks Monk to travel to San Macros, Mexico to investigate the case, and he goes with Sharona by car. On the arrival, his luggage is robbed, and Monk has problem to drink other brand of water. Capt. Alameda and Lt. Plato from the Mexican police give all the assistance to Monk that learns that one year ago, another teenager from San Francisco died in a mysterious circumstance and the recent victim won free skydiving lesson. Monk begins his investigation.

"Mr. Monk Goes to Mexico" is a funny and silly episode of "Monk". Monk thirsty because his mineral water was stolen is ridiculous. The case is well-resolved in the end. Unfortunately, this season has an awful title song, worse than the one in the first season. My vote is eight.

Predictable and Boring
21 April 2024
Kora (Sofia Boutella) returns to Veldt with the farmer Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) and the warriors Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Nemesis (Bae Doona), Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) and Tarak (Staz Nair). Titus commands the defense of the farmers and asks them to harvest the grains and use them to protect their homes. While waiting for Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) and his men, they disclose their pasts waiting for the showdown with the mother world's force.

As I mentioned in my review of Part One, Rebel Moon uses the storyline of "Seven Samurai" adapted to a sci-fi. "Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver!, however, is a predictable and boring adventure that follows the Netflix's standard (one black warrior, one Asian warrior, one gay warrior, a powerful - but this time, not beautiful that looks like an androgynous man - lead woman). The plot entwins the past of each other in order to complete the two hours' time schedule. The pacific farmers win the empire, with weapons, tanks is a little too much, isn't it? The worthwhile thing to see are the magnificent special effects. My vote is six.

Finally, an Intriguing Episode
19 April 2024
Someone left a baby at Russell's station, and he takes him to Mariel at the hospital. When he returns, he finds Sheriff Underlay and Helen and Christina with him in his office. Hellen tells him that the baby is Christina's son and her grandson, but Christina denies. Russell takes Helen to the hospital and Tom does the same with Christina. Mariel looks for Christina at home and finds Helen murdered by her daughter-in-law. Later she visits Christina in the jail, and Christina says that she changed after the Hurricane Eve and rejected her son. The she asks if Mariel does not feel the same way. Mariel decides to investigate the place where she was found and has a weird surprise.

After more than one third of the whole series, "The Cradle" is finally an intriguing episode. Mariel seeing her decayed body in the water is the best scene so far. What has happened to her and what Sheriff Underlay is are now the greatest mysteries to be explained. My vote is seven.

Boring Drama
17 April 2024
Larkin loses control of her car in the secondary road and crashes and overturns her car. She is trapped by the seatbelt and cannot reach the radio to talk to Russell. She cuts the seatbelt with a piece of the front glass and wounded, wanders looking for a ride. A strange man driving an old truck stops and she asks to go to the hospital, but the man tells her that is not possible, and he can only bring her closer to the hospital. Meanwhile Russell and Dave look for her on the road. Mariel goes with Kira and Rose to Russell's house to have breakfast with Jesse and he discloses his heart feelings towards his mother.

"Fish Story" is a long and boring drama of "Invasion". Yhe viewers like me that expected to see a sci-fi are probably boring like me with this family drama. Larkin succeeds to release from the seatbelt but does not catch the radio to speak with Russell, in an amazing plot hole. The revelation of Jesse to Mariel is also annoying. My vote is six.

Monk: Mr. Monk Goes Back to School (2003)

Crime at Trudy's High School
17 April 2024
The English teacher Beth Landow is the secret lover of the Science teacher Derek Philby and is pressing him to end his marriage with his wife. He schedules a meeting with Beth on the next morning to tell her about his discussion with his wife. On the next morning, Derek is giving a test to his students, and Beth apparently commits suicide falling from the clock tower of the school on Derek's car that activates the alarm. The principal Arleen Cassady was Trudy's best friend and asks Monk and Sharona to investigate the case. Monk accepts the case without any charge since it is Trudy's high school, and the place gives recollections to him. He questions the school janitor, but the man tells him that he did not see anything strange on that morning. Monk investigates the crime scene and finds that Derek's car was opened and alarmed. Then he interviews the teachers and concludes Derek is the murderer of Beth. But the police found a badly written suicide note and believes Beth committed suicide and the case is closed. Monk accepts to be substitute teacher to investigate Derek further and looks for a failure in his alibi.

"Mr. Monk Goes Back to School" is a good episode of "Monk", since the viewer (and Monk) knows who the killer is, but his alibi is too strong. But the weird character brilliantly resolves the case again. There are funny scenes, but the best one is certainly when Monk blends the coffee jars to make them be in the same level of liquid. The theme song of the Second Season is capable to be worse than the one played in the First Season. My vote is eight.

The Orange Being and Obsession with Water
15 April 2024
Russell is tagging crocodiles with Mona Gomez in a boat when they see an old Cuban refugee in shock that lost his family to "The Lights". Russell decides to go later to hunt one light and Dave and Jesse ask to go with him. He succeeds to tag one orange being but has difficulties to follow it. Derek is driving his truck with Kira, when they are stopped by Sheriff Underlay. He asks Kira to go to his car and tells Derek to leave Kira. However, Derek goes to his house to see Kira, but when he sees Mariel, he becomes obsessed with her. Larkin is followed everywhere, and she tries to escape from her followers on the road but has an accident.

"The Hunt" is another weird episode of this strange series. "Invasion" is so far the most bizarre series where nothing special happens, only weird things like the guys Russell stumbles upon, or the situation between Tom Underlay and Derek. I have the DVD Box and I will continue to see the episodes. My vote is six.

Weak and Rushed Conclusion
15 April 2024
The pilot Johnny Morrison (Alan Ladd) returns to Los Angeles with his best friends Buzz Wanchek (William Bendix) and George Copeland (Hugh Beaumont). Buzz has lost part of his skull in the war that was replaced by a steel plate and has problems with music that gives him headache. Johnny leaves his friends in a bar and goes home to see his wife Helen Morrison (Doris Dowling), who is partying with friends in their home. Soon he learns that Helen is alcoholic since she killed their son, and has a lover, Eddie Harwood (Howard Da Silva), who owns the night-club The Blue Dahlia. Johnny leaves Helen and his gun in the couch and walks in the rain. The stranger Joyce Harwood (Veronica Lake) offers a ride in her car to him and takes him to a bar. Soon Johnny learns that Helen was found murdered, and he decides to leave Las Vegas in the first moment. Meanwhile, Capt. Hendrickson (Tom Powers) is investigating the murder with his team, and he calls Eddie Harwood, Buzz, George, and the security guard "Dad" Newell (Will Wright) to give their testimony in the precinct.

"The Blue Dahlia" is a film-noir with Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake in the lead roles and a good story where the killer of Helen is a mystery and there are many suspects in the row of Capt. Hendrickson. Unfortunately, the conclusion is weak and too rushed, with the killer having a stupid attitude. My vote is seven.

15 April 2024
Monk goes to the airport with Sharona, and out of the blue she discloses to him that she will travel to New Jersey to visit her Aunt Minn. Sharona has bought a ticket and packed Monk's clothes and he accepts to fly with her. He disturbs the flight attendant Leigh with his paranoia while Sharona meets the star Tim Daly in the flight. Monk notes that the passenger Stefan Chabrol and his wife Barbara are not the same in the airport concourse, and he believes the man has killed her to flee to France with her fortune. He calls Randall Disher from the plane to help him in the investigation in the airport.

"Mr. Monk and the Airplane" is another funny episode of "Monk". The paranoid Monk in the airplane is hilarious, driving the flight attendant mad along the trip. Sharona's advice to Tim Daly is probably the funniest moment of the show, when he tells her that George Clooney accepted his role he had just declined, and Martin Scorsese would be the director. My vote is eight.

Willie Nelson and the Blind Eyewitness
15 April 2024
After the rehearsal with his band for two sold-out concerts in San Francisco, Willie Nelson has an argument with his manager 'Sonny' Cross that might have embezzled four hundred thousand dollars from his account. Then Sonny goes to a radio station where he will be interviewed with Willi Nelson, but there is a note asking Jason Cross to go through the lateral door in an alley. Out of the blue, there are shots and Sonny is murdered, the blind woman Wendy Maas is screaming, and Willie Nelson arrives and finds his manager dead. Willie Nelson becomes the prime suspect with the statement of Wendy and Stottlemeyer asks Monk to help him in the investigation. Willie Nelson is Monk's favorite singer, and he wants to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, Sharona is dating the architect Justin and does not want Monk to meet him to avoid criticism.

"Mr. Monk and the Red-Headed Stranger" is a great episode of "Monk". The country singer Willie Nelson is the guest star and sings various songs along the show. Sharona finding that Justin is the streaker is one of the funniest scenes of this season. The idea of a blind eyewitness is also hilarious. The crime is very well-resolved in the end. My vote is eight.

However, their apartments are blocked by the police, and they have to stay with Sharona's sister Gail Fleming. Meanwhile Christine's lover Darryl Wright poses of reporter to Sharona to retrieve the answering machine tape who indicates that Henry was murdered and gets close to Sharona and her sister Gail.

A Blizzard Night at an Airport
13 April 2024
The general manager of the Lincoln Airport in Chicago, Mel Bakersfeld (Burt Lancaster), is having a troubled night due to a blizzard. A Boeing 707 is stuck in the snow and blocking the two-niner lane to other flights. His friend Joe Patroni (George Kennedy) is trying to clear the lane. Mel is also facing personal problems with his wife, Cindy Bakersfeld (Dana Wynter), who wants him to quit his job and work with her father. The arrogant but efficient Captain Vernon Demerest (Dean Martin) is married with Mel's sister but is having an affair with the stewardess Gwen Meighen (Jacqueline Bisset), who tells him that she is pregnant of him. Mel's assistant Tanya Livingston (Jean Seberg), who is in love with Mel, is having problem with the stowaway Ada Quonsett (Helen Hayes), an old con-artist that uses to travel for free luring the attendants. Meanwhile, the down-to luck D. O. Guerrero (Van Heflin) hires a life insurance to his wife and travels with a bomb inside his briefcase. Ada flees from the clerk that is taking care of her and embarks to Rome and sits side-by-side with Guerrero. Soon the airport people learns that Guerrero might be a bomber and the control tells Vernon that he might be transporting a bomber. He needs to set in motion a plan to save passengers and crew.

"Airport" is still a good movie after fifty-four years of its release. The plot is a combination of soap-opera with action and well resolved in the end. It is great to see how the September 11th affected the security system of airplanes in the present days. The personal dramas are engaging, and the conclusion is excellent. My vote is seven.

Soon his wife Irene Fenimore returns to the hotel and clears his name. Meanwhile, one maid is missing and the other four tells the hotel manager that she traveled to get married. Monk and Rita continue the investigation and the four maids become suspects. But where the body is?

"Mr. Monk Takes a Vacation" is one of the best episodes of Monk so far. His unforgettable vacation with Sharona and Benjy is funny and mysterious. His comment about Sharona's flirtation and hee reaction are hilarious. Monk is the only that believe in Benjy that was correct. My vote is eight.

The prime suspect, her salesman lover Trevor McDowell, has the perfect alibi since he was running the marathon, and every participant has a chip on the tennis shoes registering their time and movements. Monk is sure that McDowell is the killer, but how he did it.

"Mr. Monk and the Marathon Man" is a reasonable episode of "Monk", with excessive imbecilities of the lead character. He loses the passage of his hero due to his fixation with a wrong button of a viewer; he reaches the criminal but instead of getting the chip, he celebrates for reaching the guy. Sharona trying to cross the fence is also annoying. The writers exaggerated with the silliness in this episode. My vote is seven.

Terrible Annoying Film
11 April 2024
The famous gospel singer Beth Boothby (Brittania Nicol) and her Texan boyfriend Steve Thomson (Henry Garrett) have made a vow to stay pure until their marriage. They are welcomed by Sir Lachlan Morrison (Graham McTavish) and Lady Delia Morrison (Jacqueline Leonard), and soon they feel frustrated since people do not give much attention to them. The couple invites them to move to the countryside, to Tressocks, where the residents are more amicable. They are welcomed but soon they learn the dark secret of the town.

"The Wicker Tree" is a terrible and annoying horror movie. The plot is boring, the songs are irritating, and the conclusion is stupid. The characters are not good and despite the beautiful locations, the film never work. The cameo of less than a minute of Christopher Lee is a great absurd. The Christian propaganda is dreadful. My vote is three.

Meanwhile, Jordan's employee Bill (Blake Bailey) finds Japlo's body and team-up with Morton and Jordan to hunt down the creature.

"The Killer Eye" is one of the awfullest trash movies ever made, with a cheap and senseless storyline and lots exploitation. Fortunately, this film has not been released in Brazil, and I have an Americas VHS. The plot is ridiculous, with cheap locations and special effects. My vote is one (awful).

Definitely Something Is Missing to Be a Good Series
8 April 2024
In Homestead, Russell finds that the research laboratory where seven monkeys were studied killed the researcher and escaped from their jail during the Hurricane Eve. Soon he learns that they may be carriers of a deadly flu virus, and Sheriff Underlay reinstall barricades to keep the town contained under quarantine. There is a notice to everybody stay at home, but Rose and Jess go to a bonfire near Glendale and do not return home. Meanwhile, Russell, Underlay and another officer hunt down the animals.

"Alpha Male" is another disappointing episode of "Invasion". After four episodes, the series seems to be spinning on the same point and definitely something is missing to become a good series. There are only twnty-two chapter and I usually do noy give up watching films or series after seeing the beginning. But so far, I do not suggest this series to any viewer. My vote is six.
