Bound (1996)
An amazing visual tale.
The Wachowski brothers concocted a visual masterpiece for the masses. Bound is arguably one of the least appreciated films of the past 15 years. And that can be blamed on uneducated word of mouth.
To the average movie-goer, Bound is a tale of two lesbians tryin' to get a lot of money. But Bound stars Gina Gershon as the smarter-than-she-lets-on Corky, an ex-con trying to start a new life after spending 5 years in jail for what she calls "the redistribution of wealth" aka stealing. Jennifer Tilly is Violet, a gangster's wife who tries to get out of her one-sided marriage. Violet uses Corky to help her steal 3 million dollars from her husband, but ends up falling for her. Joey Pants is a great supporting actor as the money-launderer Caesar.
Bound explores a sexual and manipulative world of a lesbian relationship and the mafia. It is beautifully crafted with darkness and sensuality throughout the torrid tale. If you like torture, violence, money and lesbian sex scenes (aside from great plot, directing, and acting), then check into Bound. It's better than you think.
Black Sash (2003)
More than just pretty faces...
Sunday nights I sat and watched Angel, and noticed a new show coming on afterwards at 9. Without anything else better to do, and absolutely no expectations, I watched the entire pilot of Black Sash. Each character was represented completely, but you could tell they were rushing to detail each character in the 45-minute segment. Other than that, I was hooked. Each character has some sort of physical/emotional struggle, and their martial arts training ties in with each episode, it's uniquely blended to put on a great episode. The actors do a great job, Russell Wong is great as the mentor, and his grandfather also hands him advice. Good show, sad it got cancelled. Watch for re-runs. Oh, and yes, the actors are all good-looking. That helps.
