Firstly I have to address the major error on IMDb "The Walking Dead" site: the genre should only say "drama", the horror and thriller parts are all wrong.
Secondly, I am not a comic book fan, but I've read them and they are pretty good. Keep that in mind when I trash the series (and I will, no doubt about that). Here's a short overview:
When the series started I was thrilled, I thought that it will instantly become one of my favourite shows of all time. As the story progressed, it was becoming more and more clear what the producers are doing with the show - butchering it. "That's a good thing, it's a zombie show after all!", you might think. Wrong. What they decided to do was make the story appealing to housewives and elderly folks.
Drama, endless pointless conversations, love stories, characters complaining and crying (exactly what you'll be doing if you're a horror or, GOD FORBID, Romero fan) etc. is what's in store for you. Oh, occasional zombie will appear, they are pretty good.
No one wants to read a long review, to make the story short:
THE GOOD STUFF: acting, occasional zombie that appears looks awesome, the setting in general
THE BAD STUFF: endless drama, many (MANY) pointless and boring scenes, slow progress, Rick's wife Lori (aka "that whiney b***")
SHOULD YOU WATCH IT? -If you're a horror, zombie horror, apocalypse or basically every genre but drama and romance fan - AVOID THE SHOW. It will suck the will to watch it out of you, it's just a matter of time. There's a chart when people give up on watching the show (average is around the middle of the second season). What the **** are they doing with the budged of 3 million per episode? Paying for every single actors DRAMA classes, zombies included?!
What I expected from the show? Blood, gore, morally questionable calls, struggling to find supplies, characters that don't have the time to whine and cry because they are f******* busy trying to survive in a god d*** apocalypse!!! What I got? Family drama. Naked women in comfortable beds watching the sunrise, an episode of two characters talking to each other while zombies rampage around them.
