I only became aware of this a couple of years back so was aware of its reputation but when I finally got to see it I didn't think that this was that bad.
Acting is pretty poor (even by low budget horror movie standards) and the script seems laden with plot holes and inconsistencies. Plot holes and inconsistencies tend to be a standard feature in a lot of Italian horror/fantasy films and it's all part of their charm. Special effects are also pretty bad with some of the worst monster masks that I've ever seen. Despite this it doesn't fail to entertain and is better than a lot of low budget straight to DVD releases that you get nowadays.
