The Flash: What's Past Is Prologue (2018)
Season 5, Episode 8

How to build things up nicely and fall flat
5 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
For a good part of this episode, things were crazy (and I mean this in the best way). As you may have seen in the trailer for the episode, they go back in time and it's, at the very least, a nostalgia trip, and during parts of it, super exciting!

Just when you think things can't get better, they don't get better and they fall back to old ways - the usual let's catch the villain and let him run away for really no reason (except that it's not the 23rd episode of the season). Basically, everything that you liked about the episode and everything they do gets undone and the 100th episode turns out to be an anti climax, especially because how tame/bland the villain getaway was. Yet another instance of unfulfilled promises by the Flash writers.

Simply Superb

Out of Whack writing. Over the top characters. Repeated Gags which only get funnier every time. Inappropriate humor. Crazy action. And, Jessica Walter, who is basically just playing her character from Arrested Development.

My roommate suggested this way, way back, and I started watching this show only last Saturday. A super spy who thinks very little, and has mother issues. A female spy who's super attractive, and love-hates the hero, and follows him everywhere. Throw in an over bearing mother, the KGB, ultra crazy characters, and what you get is Archer. Totally engaging. And, did I mention? Super funny. Entertainment guaranteed. And, as an added bonus, it's available on Netflix. Highly recommended !!

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride (2016)
Season 4, Episode 0

Why, just why?
2 January 2016
Minor spoilers

You know, some times less is more.

This was an overstuffed, overlong episode of Sherlock. The abominable bride is a largely simple story, told in a rather convoluted way. A non-linear story telling doesn't always work, and this is one perfect example. The episode works till the 1 hour mark, after which it becomes a very bad mash up of Reichenbach falls and Inception. Inception, yes, you heard it right.

Had it just focused on the Victorian era, it would have been good. Had it focused just on Moriarty, it would have been good. Instead, what we get is a half baked episode. The humor saves the mediocre writing.

The Flash: Running to Stand Still (2015)

Mark Hamill has still got it !!
16 December 2015
I was expecting a lot from this episode, since it was the mid-season finale, and the episodes that have lead to this one were all very engaging. And boy did I enjoy this !!

It starts with a bang. Zoom comes for Harry, and his saying "Merry Christmas" is the creepiest wish you'll ever hear. In fact all the villains in the episode get to say Merry Christmas. Mark Hamill, as the trickster, is simply superb. You can notice a very apparent Joker inspired madness in the writing, and it's super fun. Take this for instance - The villains(Weather Wiz, Cap'n Cold) decide to kill the Flash, and the trickster goes "it was more of a new year's resolution, but, hey, I am flexible". The plan to capture the Flash is smart, and how team flash saves the city is even more imaginative. The climactic reveal is the only let-down in the episode. Zoom's "reason" for coming after Flash is a huge downer. That aside, this was one entertaining episode.

The Flash: Family of Rogues (2015)

Solid

One of the better episodes in The Flash. Wonder if Captain Cold has to do something to do with the episode's effectiveness. Somehow, the episodes where he makes an appearance are always gripping. In my opinion, the show works better if it focuses on crime than science fiction. In other words, a typical DC product. And, in this episode, you can see why.

Story - Captain Cold plans a heist with his dad, and Barry tries to stop them. Meanwhile, Prof Stein is having some troubles. And, guess who's back?

Rating - 9/10

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the first part. It was fun. So, naturally my expectations for the second movie was high. That, and a metascore of 88 on the first day, naturally, I expected a masterpiece. But what i saw was just awful.

The first few scenes have no dialogues, it's all sign language, with a bit of monkey sound here and there(60% of the film, actually). That puts you to sleep right away. There are no awe inspiring scenes, not one frame of amazing graphics. The "emotions", well, didn't work for me.

Story? Okay. Humans want to repair a dam nearby so that they can get electricity, Caesar allows them to work, and asks other monkeys to help. Meanwhile, mean monkey Koba goes to Human place and sees a bunch of weapons. So, it comes back, attempts to kill Caesar and then starts a war with the humans. Climax? Meh.

Sincere advice, don't watch this. Franco and the cute little monkey, in the first part entertained me. This one put me to sleep.
