The Call of the Wild (2020)
The cinematography throughout this movie was quite beautiful, with the landscapes and the cgi on the animals. The characters were well acted and well scripted, but they had no depth. I didn't find myself very emotionally invested in the story. It was a decent movie in all aspects, it just wasn't too much of anything which left it a bit underwhelming.
Great setting, lacks chemistry
The costuming and set departments knocked it out of the park on this one, truly beautiful. The acting was good, the storyline was interesting, but it all just sort of fell flat. I didn't think the characters had good chemistry and I didn't feel very emotionally invested.
A short one season murder mystery series. One main character is British and the other Swedish. The British guy is played as a bit of a bumbling fool who is cast out due to poor performance. The unlikely duo link up to solve a murder and in so doing untangle the mess that are their personal lives. Enjoyable, but the switching between English and Swedish can be hard to keep up with as a non Swedish speaker (forgetting to check the subtitles)
The Craft (1996)
Overall I was a little underwhelmed by the craft. While the effects are great for a movie in the late 90s, I just wasn't too impressed with the storyline itself. The girls didn't have that much chemistry and the plot felt disjointed. Not a bad movie... but not great either.
A Little Princess (1995)
A childhood favorite
A delightful movie. The storyline is captivating, the characters have depth, and the cinematography is quite beautiful for such simple sets. Sara is kindhearted and soft spoken and her character makes you invested in the story. Its such a brilliant message that carries through the whole film. One of my favorites.
A Cinderella Story (2004)
A Cinderella story is one of those movies that is perfect in its absolute predictability. It doesn't need to be anything more than it is. Don't go in expecting a cinematic masterpiece, its a cliche teen movie. Hilary Duff is perfect, and CMM is gorgeous. Love to watch this and throw myself back into my childhood.
Lego Frozen Northern Lights (2016)
Cute little series
Frozen spin off story told using LEGO humor. Short and sweet.
Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)
A unique and fun movie
I really enjoyed the concept behind this movie and how all the characters sort of fall into place. The acting is good and the actors really fit their characters. The storyline is well developed, but it could have lost the stolen jewelry piece, it wasn't necessary. A fun mindlessly enjoyable and relatable movie, I think there's a Susan in all of us.
The storytelling in this movie is absolutely stunning, the unraveling of the story as told from the end to the beginning, is so creative. There are so many twists and turns and I'm still not sure I have it all straight. I was blown away with how captivating this story is and how well it all plays out. Guy Pearce steals the show.
Blade Runner (1982)
I thought this was a pretty good 80s movie. It didn't blow me out of the water, and I don't necessarily feel the need to watch again, but it was enjoyable for a first time viewing. The acting was good and storyline flowed well and was fairly easy to follow. The characters had depth, and only said a few cheesy one liners. Overall a good movie.
Sex and the City 2 (2010)
A decent addition to SATC
A fun movie to add to the sex and the city series. The characters are wonderful as always and have some really great moments together. The storyline has good flow and stays true to the original series. The storylines are emotionally charged and enjoyable to watch. Though Samantha is a bit annoying throughout this movie and some of the story arcs seem to backtrack relationships.
The Stranger (2020)
Intense and bingeworthy!
I loved this show! It was so intense and interesting, and played out so well. I was really afraid that all of the storylines weren't going to work themselves out, but they did beautifully. The characters had real depth, and the acting was great from the whole cast. I really enjoyed the storyline and wasn't expecting most of the twists. A great, bingeworthy show.
Love JLo and Fonda!
I've always enjoyed watching this movie, it's pure fun with a good ending. The perfect comedy to mindlessly pass an hour and a half. I think JLo and Fonda have good charisma and make have fun with the back and forth sparring. Wanda Sykes is hilarious and is so perfect in this role. Overall good fun, with decent acting and a decent storyline.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
A good Freddy thriller
I enjoy this more recent installation in the Freddy Krueger series. The characters have depth, the storyline has good flow, and there's awesome Freddy horror. I can't ask for much more.
Tries too hard
I feel this show had real potential, the storyline was interesting, the characters had depth, and the acting was good. But it just tries too hard to relate to a young audience. The cussing and the lewd comments, are just too much. The story goes off on tangents and the 4th wall breaks are funny but lose appeal after the hundredth time. I do wish it was coming back, just to play out the story.
Big Fat Liar (2002)
Good kids movie
I remember loving this as a kid when it first came out, it was funny and light hearted. Watching again as an adult it was a bit ridiculous, but who cares. A good fluff movie, that's humorous, and fun to watch.
Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
More ridiculous grabboid action
All things considered this is a fair addition to the tremors saga. The acting is passable, the cgi believable, and always good grabboid goo. My only problem with this movie is that it almost tries too hard to have a plot, with Burt having a grabboid disease, and the bad guy government agents, it was just too much and too underdeveloped. They would have down well to pare it down and keep it within the low budget plot expectations.
Tremors 5: Bloodlines (2015)
Great addition to the tremors saga
Tremors 5 gets back some of the original magic with good bad tv. The plot is fairly well developed, the acting is pretty good, and the cgi works. The new characters add nicely into the storyline and bring new life to the series. Overall a good low budget horror film.
Gretel & Hansel (2020)
Typical "artisanal" movie
This movie falls into the niche category of horror movies that throw everything out the window (plot, dialogue, acting...) in an effort to be artistic and cerebral. Undoubtedly the cinematography is beautiful, but that's the only positive. The plot is thin, the acting is okay but theres nothing there, and the overall movie was a bit boring. A definite creep factor, but not scary at all, which was a real let down.
Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004)
While the concept is interesting, going back to the first graboids in the Wild West of perfection. The storyline and dialogue feel underdeveloped. There's a definite lack of finesse and the acting is C- material. Overall a bit underwhelming even for the tremors low budget horror genre.
Captivating story, poor documentary
The story of Aaron Hernandez is quite captivating, a star football player with seemingly everything ahead of him, murders someone and ruins his whole life. Why? Unfortunately the series relies too much on people expressing their opinions and not on actual facts. The focus is on the wrong places and seems to cheapen the main purpose. It makes it more he said she said than a documentary.
Ghost Rider (2007)
Not a great movie but not a terrible movie either. The storyline is fairly well developed, the acting is pretty good, and the effects decent. Nick Cages "accent" comes and goes and he delivers lines deliberately aimed at being southern platitudes which is completely unnecessary. Eva Mendes' character is underutilized and it's annoying that they make her so self conscious.
Empire State (2013)
Anticlimactic, borderline boring
To be honest the majority of this movie is the two main characters cussing and fighting. While it's cool that the plot is based on a true story, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The acting is okay, but the characters are annoying. The plot itself, wanders around a lot and doesn't seem to have a clear direction. Then the movie just kind of ends.
National Treasure (2004)
This movie is a national treasure
One of my all time favorites. It's got good acting, good cinematography, and one hell of a storyline. One of Nick Cages best movies for sure. National treasure is the epitome of a wholesome adventurous movie. Combining history, intrigue, and treasure! A fun watch til the end.
Leslie Nelson is the king of dead pan humor, making you laugh out loud on more than one occasion. The plot (when scrutinized) is absolutely ridiculous, but it really doesn't matter. The jokes usually land, and the acting is pretty good. Go in with low expectations and it's enjoyable.
