Lethal Weapon (1987)
Good action movie
A solid action movie staring the insanely handsome 80s Mel Gibson and old faithful Danny Glover. The acting was good from the whole cast, the characters well developed and the action on point. Glover and Gibson had good banter playing opposite style police officers. The storyline was a bit sketchy on the actual detective work, but at least it doesn't try to get too complicated. Overall a solid cop action movie.
The Core (2003)
Good acting overshadowed by poor science
I have to admit I was captivated by the storyline and the characters, but this was overwhelmingly overshadowed by the too obvious bad science. I don't mind a movie that takes liberties and slips in a few over the top scenes, but this ran amuck. Getting outside the drill in a geode in the middle of the earths outer core?! In suits?!
Mine 9 (2019)
Heartbreaking, but lacks finesse
This story in undoubtedly heartbreaking and unfortunately not out of the realm of possibility. Coal mines are dangerous when not properly designed or managed. The movie itself had a good storyline, but lacked some finesse. The acting was okay - the dialogue didn't often flow well. The cinematography was really great, but the sound editing didn't do justice.
Schitt's Creek (2015)
One of the best tv shows ever made. Absolutely hilarious one minute, then delightfully heartfelt the next. When you look up character development in the dictionary it says Schitts Creek. Watching these characters over the course of six seasons was a joy. The whole cast has undeniable chemistry that carries you through the show. One of the best written series ever, the storyline flows remarkably well for a comedy. A joy that will be missed.
The Hangover (2009)
The hangover was truly the first of its kind, a main stream r-rated comedy. I remember seeing this in theaters back in the day and laughing til I cried. The story takes so many hilarious and unexpected turns as these lovable idiots unravel their night in Vegas. The first viewing is definitely the best, it looses some wow factor after you know what happens. But damn is it funny!
Soul Plane (2004)
Funny, if not a bit ridiculous
Some very funny moments in this movie, I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. Monique is a real highlight, even as a secondary character she brings it in all her scenes. The only bad thing about this movie is that most of the storyline is overwhelmingly ridiculous which does take away from the humor. But it accomplishes what it set out to do.
Road to Perdition (2002)
A truly emotional and captivating movie. The storyline flowed well and held interest up til the last second. The characters had depth and were well acted, Tom Hanks shined as the mobster of few words. The cinematography and score were quite beautiful and often combined in unique ways, the scene in the rain was really cool. Overall a good movie with an unforgettable ending.
MASH is a truly unique series, with both the seriousness of war and yet laugh out loud humor. The parallels are undeniable, where heartbreaking moments are mixed with goofy guys making jokes. The acting is great, the characters have depth and are well developed. The cast have great chemistry during both during the serious times and riffing off each other's banter. A timeless classic.
Wild Wild Country (2018)
This documentary reads as a soap opera, with cults and backstabbing and the feds and extraditions and prison. It's all so wild. The story itself is captivating, especially seeing as it's a true story, and so much of the events are on camera. The documentary makes do a good job of providing relevant interviews and telling each side of the story. The flow of the documentary allowed the storyline to unfold naturally. A truly well made documentary about a crazy event in the backwoods of Oregon.
Certainly an incredible and harrowing story, but this short documentary detailing Natascha's abduction has no substance. There's no purpose. The people interviewed are relevant and include Natascha herself, but the re-enactments hardly tell the story, and theres no natural flow to the documentary. Could have been done much better.
Bomb Girls (2012)
This show started off amazing, the characters were interesting, the concept intriguing, and the story captivating. I loved how the girls interact with each other and develop as characters. The first season was dynamite, I was hooked. Then season 3 came with ridiculous story arcs, a saboteur? undercover agent? It was too much.
Long Shot (2017)
This is a really great short documentary. The story unfolds as Juan and his lawyer try desperately to prove that he was at a dodgers game with his daughter and not off murdering a man. The show is well made and unfolds unexpectedly. A great watch and an amazing story.
This show is just wild from the start to the finish. Home zoo owners from across the country are interviewed about their stories, and it's just indescribable the weirdness they get up too. The show itself has a lot of material since Joe Exotic films every aspect of his life. The first few episodes are crazy, and good, and then the show tries to get serious and it losses some charm. With Joe's conviction, the interviews are haphazard and there's no coverage of the trial, making the last episodes feel amateurish.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Everything about this show is amazing. The acting is superb, the cinematography breathtaking, and the story captivating. And to top it off, still manages to deliver some great scares. The character depth makes the interactions between siblings feel so real. The way the story unravels between the past and present is beautifully done. Great show.
This is definitely a case of having to stick with it until the end to make any sense of what's going on. The first 2/3 of the movie is just a jumble of random scenes, but then the mysteries start to unravel and it all starts to make sense. I found this to be quite an unexpected good movie. The cinematography was quite beautiful, the acting good, and the characters had depth. The storylines were at times convoluted but fell into place wonderfully.
Fun scooby sequel
Definitely not as good as the first scooby-doo live action movie, but still a fun mystery inc. movie. The actors are so well cast that it makes these movies so enjoyable to watch. The plot and action scenes were a shade more ridiculous in this movie, which takes away from the movie a bit. Overall, its a mindless action/comedy with a killer soundtrack.
Good scooby-doo fun
Is this an Oscar worthy movie? No. But it's all in good fun, a proper scooby-doo mystery with a few good laughs. The actors are so well cast to play the mystery inc. gang that it makes this movie so much fun. I enjoy watching this from time to time, it a mindless comedy.
Jolie kills it as Salt in this intense spy/coverup action movie. The action was well choreographed and kept up a good pace throughout. The storyline had a good flow and some twists were unexpected. The acting was good for an action movie. Overall a solid action thriller.
The Illusionist (2006)
I found this movie to be quite boring and the ending predictable. The illusions read too much like CGI to be believable. Overall, not my cup of tea. However, the acting and cinematography were quite good.
Quite an interesting documentary following an internet group attempting to track down a cat killer who then turns to murder. The documentary was thorough and included interviews from relevant people of the internet group and the Canadian police. The information was detailed and the storyline flowed well as the investigations unraveled.
Nova: Killer Hurricanes (2017)
Short doc on the great hurricane of 1780 and the likelihood that such a storm will occur again. The documentary went into a good amount of detail about hurricane formation and past history of storm frequencies. The show had multiple interviews from relevant scientists and credible data.
The Fear of 13 (2015)
Nick Yarris does a great job in this biography / documentary, telling his story. It's both captivating and emotional, and luckily has a good ending. The editing and filming of the documentary really compliment the experience of listening to his story. Well made.
Criminal: UK (2019)
Good but could be better
The concept of this short series is quite interesting where the main story unfolds in the interrogation room. Different suspects are interrogated for various types of crime by the same team of police officers. There's a general lack of background on the cops and the suspects which makes it hard to get invested. They try to get a story going between the group of cops, but there's too little time spent on the relationships.
Captivating... but very dark
A dark thriller, that just gets more convoluted as the main character descends into madness. The show is quite captivating, drawing you into the story and the characters. However, as the story unravels it just gets weirder and darker. My favor for the main character dropped off as each episode played out and in the end I didnt care for her very much.
Mr. Right (2015)
Tries too hard
This movie tried way too hard to be cool and funny and edgy, which results in a one note boring mess. The acting is good, but literally all of the jokes fall flat, I don't think I laughed out loud once. There's really no chemistry between the main characters. It's just all very bland. Well choreographed fight scenes though.
