The Hateful Eight (2015)
Tarantino's still a genius!
The 8th film of writer/director Quentin Tarantino. The Hateful 8 delivers what audiences would expect from him, a mixture of over-the top violence, smart and punchy dialogue, and unpredictable plot.
The film plays like Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. It tells a story about a group of strangers, trapped in a cabin in the middle of blizzard, in old west. The people soon find themselves trapped in a bloody plot of betrayal and deception.
Without further ado, I'll describe the good and the bad of this movie:
1. Unpredictable plot with satisfying twist and conclusion 2. The way the mystery being revealed slowly will keep the audiences on the edge of their seats. 3. Despite the film being a mystery thriller, its plot's pretty simple and straightforward and is easy to follow 4. Very stylized, it's very entertaining to watch it especially if you are a Tarantino's fanboy 5. Cool over the top violence 6. Channing Tatum delivered (surprisingly) fine performance. his character seemed really intimidating 7. The script is impeccably written, with a significant amount of characters, you can remember all of them! 8. Never felt boring once in 187 minutes 9. The cinematography and the musical score is perfect! 10. High production merit, the film's visual is high quality and will become a enjoyable eye candy, especially if you watch it on Big Screen 11. For Tarantino's fanboys, you'll experience Tarantino-gasm for 3 hours!
Even thought I give this movie 10 stars, nothing is perfect, there is still some weaknesses of this movie.
1. It's hard to root for the characters. Even thought they are all interesting individuals, they are all basically d**kheads 2. A waste of 70mm film stocks as 95% of the film takes place INDOOR! 3. Almost 100% of this movie is about talking (Tarantino, everyone!). Even though the dialogue is impeccable, it will be less appealing for general audiences. 4. If you're not a Tarantino's fanboy, maybe it's hard for you to really like this film i believe.
Jurassic World (2015)
Bad Box Reviews: Jurassic World
First, sorry for my weird English.
If you come to the theater hoping an intelligent, visual effect revolving thriller like the first Jurassic Park you'll be disappointed. However, if you hoping a good popcorn entertainment with great effects and action sequences, well you'll be satisfied.
The film sets 22 years after the first film. Now, Isla Nubar is a functional dinosaurs theme park which is obviously bigger and more amusing than Jurassic Park with real life dinosaurs (geez, haven't those people learned anything from the first, second and that retarded third film?). However, to attract more visitors (and cash), the park developers decide to make a new dinosaur named Indominus Rex, a T-Rex Hybrid. However, one day, Indominus Rex manages to escape (mostly because its laughable cage design) and terrorize the park, bringing the site into a total chaos. And, our hero here (played by that guy from Guardians of Galaxy) has to save the day by stopping the hybrid while taking care of his ex gf and her nephews and keeping an eye on people from Ingen (that company still exist??) with different agenda.
Without further ado, let's see the good and the bad from this film.
The Good: 1. The dinos are the coolest among the series, especially that hybrid and the aquatic babe (I forget the name). 2. The visual effects are really well made. The Jurassic World are also beautifully designed. And it was really cool to see it on 3D. 3. The action sequences are brilliantly crafted. The director really did a good job here! I could feel thrilled whenever the dinos were on the screen, killing dumb humans or fellow dinos. 4. The acting from the main casts is pretty great, especially Chris Pratt. 5. There're actually some smart writings there. Many dialogs are genuinely funny and make the film looks fresh. 6. It's really entertaining to watch, really!
The Bad: 1. Unintelligent plot. Really, most of the events on this film can occur because the park's Holy B%$@hslap security system. If I were the owner of the park, I would fire the park's security designer on the first day! 2. There are many 'failed' dramatic scenes that look a little bit ridiculous. 3. The hero and the raptors' relationship is a little bit silly. 4. The climax battle is very-very silly. -. The humans are saved by the raptors (who get pwned really fast by that hybrid) -. One human lures a T-Rex to the battle site (amazingly, she has a same speed with that Dino. It's either T-Rex sucks at marathon or the woman is actually an Usain Bolt in disguise.) -. The T-Rex decides to save the human by fighting the hybrid instead of... you know, eating them! -. When the T-Rex is about to lose, raptor EX-Machina. -. Aquatic Babe EX-Machina. -. The End! 5. Furthermore, it's really predictable.
However, I still recommend this film to anyone because it's really worth your time and money if you're looking for pure entertainment. I actually had a really great time watching this, and that's good. Because the main purpose of a film is to entertain the audiences right? And this film undeniably succeeded in doing so.
One more note: Don't compare this to the first film please! It's not even close! (Well, who wants to compete with Mr. Spielberg anyway?)
Final score: 80
Man of Steel (2013)
A Rare Example of Remake That Really Works
When I see the trailer I wasn't sure that this film will be a good film because I didn't like Superman Returns. But, surprisingly this movie is better than the previous films. With surprising changes from the previous Superman films, this movie features darker and more fantastic story lines. But, the most valuable asset from this film is it's visual effect. This film features an incredible visual effects throughout the films. From the beginning till the end, you will be shown with a non-stop action and battles with an amazing visual. The beauty of Superman's homeland is also shown incredibly. I think it's more suitable to be watched in 3D than in 2D. You'll some awesome moment if you watch it in 2D. The plot is also fantastic, although some scenes maybe failed to so satisfy the viewers. The actor that plays the Superman , Henry Cavill, can be called as New Superman. He makes Superman looks different as usual, and he did a great job, he's very suitable to be a superman and he proves that Clark Kent can be cool to, not only the Superman. His acting is also charismatic. From all the above, I can say that Man of Steel is a very great and must-see superhero film.
The Hunger Games (2012)
One of the best sci-fi movie ever made!
I've seen a Japanese movie titled "The Battle Royal" and i found it has a same concept with this film, but i think this film more interesting. This film has excellent story line, and visual effects. The acting of all the actor and actress are great too. It's more interesting to see the movie than the novel, although they're both fantastic. I've watched many sci-fi movie before, and this is the firs sci-fi movie that involves teens. And i love films that involve teen because it's more interesting and unique. I hope, this film will re-released in 3D! Because, for me, there are many scenes that are better to seen in 3D version than in 2D, such as the training scenes, the fire scenes, etc
My Little Eye (2002)
Interesting and Thrilling
I just watched this film one day ago and I found this film has a very interesting storyline, about 5 people who accepted a challenge to live together in a small house in the isolated wood. But, soon they found something's wrong with the competition.
The film use a semi-mockumentary style camera and make it more scary to be watched. The scoring and lights effects also very great.
But the film has some weakness. First, the acting of the actor and actress were okay but not very good. I couldn't see a well scared expressions from them.
And I also hate the ending. It's the worst part of the movie. I think why should the villain kept one of his victim alive in a small room instead of killed her?
Final Destination 5 (2011)
Best Horror Ever
I've been a final destination's big fan from many years ago, and I love all the series. But, I think the fifth film is the best of Final Destination series.
FD5 is the only film of the series that contain comedy. So, the viewers can be relaxed in some scenes.
The 3D effect is wonderful. I could saw many things jumped to me when I was watching this film. The storyline also amazing, especially the ways the characters dead are so creative and unpredictable. the comedy scenes come in a very right time without ruined the horror scenes. One of my friend who watched this with me said that this movie is too sadistic. But for me, the violence shown in the movie still acceptable.
I never watched a better horror movie than FD5 before, and I like it very much.
