Things Heard & Seen (2021)
save 2 hours, the only comment will save them for you
James Norton is a non-Talented Mr. Ripley, who kills 3 people including Amanda Seyfried. Boring movie, incredibly long for no reason, with white thread resolution. Lots of plot holes. It is no horror movie, just a family drama with daft link to the supernatural.
The I-Land (2019)
not as bad as they say
Nice mini series with relatively short and fast paced episodes. Could have been or maybe it is a rip-off of an Outer Limits 1997 episode (S02E05), or even Lost (which I have not watched because I didn't like the casting). The fact of the matter is that it had some nice slightly familiar faces, action, mystery and drama. Natalie Martinez was great as protagonist. I am happy that they didn't expect to make 10 seasons to give a resolution, while most mystery ended in episode 3.
It doesnt deserve the 10 I will give, nor the 4 ranked in imdb from people who while complaining about how bad it is, they still managed to watch the whole thing! If I don't like something, I use to switch it off once and for all in 15min max.
The foreigner Wick
I had high expectations of this, which were met during the last 30min, although the plot wasn't like I wished. So what we get is a new copy John Wick (without the neon production design), or The foreigner, where a Nobody is actually SOMEBODY...! I would have wished more of a Nobody who is really a Nobody as seen in 1st 15min.
Great supportive roles. Colin Samon (best 007 that hasn't been), Michael Ironside and above all Christopher Lloyd at a top role.
It's evident they can anh hopefully will make a sequel. Nice to see a new face as action hero though.
Kung Fu (2021)
better than a white man in Bruce Lee's role
It is a bit casually written in details, a bit modern in approach and much different than its predecessor. But to me it was much better than watching a white man in Bruce Less' shoes. It doesn't deserve Oscars, but neither its low rating. Its plot looks promising. I will keep watching.
Lo nunca visto (2019)
a somniferous tale
Written apparently according to Netflix's dictation, together with the depicted Spanish villagers, we learn our lesson of the day, that illegal immigrants and gays are saints and useful to western society for breeding reasons. While it is rightfully stated that baddies are baddies independently of colour (or gender I would like to add), it then ammends that they are worst if they are white. An otherwise harmless romantic comedie, became just a vessel of leftist political preach. The characters and protagonists were doing fine in a charming Spanish village background, however it could have been so much more. But no, our lesson is just that we have to absorb the illlegal immigrants by white marriages. So monodimensional it hurts even the immigrants who legal or not migrate with something more in their mind than just reproduction. They could have made something better, but no. Let's leave the complicated to a better writer. Terrible camera use at times with sunlight thrown to our faces hiding what we are meant to watch. If you can shallow all the above you might enjoy a bit. But it felt longer than it is. Which gave me a well deserved sleep. After all, a lesson stays in our mind if we learn it just before sleeep.
lost me at 15m
I didnt understand what it is about. Some funny apocalyptic show with a lot of fantaisie elements wanting to make it look cool, then started making flashbacks. Protagonist is annoying being so smarty.
Wild Child (2008)
Nepotism's outcome Emma Roberts, overshadows to my view all her relatives who opened a few doors for her. This movie watched in 2021 hasn't got any wrinkle. Nothing entirely new or shocking there, however it feels fresh and enjoyable. The title role is tailored to Emma, Mrs. Richardson is touching in her ultimate role and even Alex Pettyfer is winsome.
Tam Cam: Chuyen Chua Ke (2016)
family friendly entertainment
I was sceptical about launching my family into this, but family movies need a pleasant cinematography, some light action (with not a drop of blood) and a good pace. I knew nothing about the story, so when we saw the ressemblance with Cinderella it was a definite watch. The twist on the story was amusing, the acting, the fighting choreography (especially in the background it's worst than kids playing with swords), the unnecessary (bad) CGI and the direction were often laughable, but the overall result was not boring and this was not a missed home cinema night. It is not worthy the 10 rating, but we had a good time, so I gave it anyway.
Yes Day (2021)
some 1 review users, rated 1....
...and without reasoning entitled it "Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen".
Everybody knows what is the target audience of any movie. So if you watched a family movie while what you wanted was a horror one, then don't blame the movie. And if you blame it, explain why. Unless you are a morron watching whatever the streaming platform brings you without choosing, which is also impossible, because platform's A.I. wouldn't be so silly to propose something you wouldn't like. So, anyone giving this 1 star have something wrong.
To the movie now, it's a cute family movie, some family issues, some family jokes (without the gross ones seen in Vacation movies), and some white thread plot. Nothing new, nothing bad either. I personnaly found it fine
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
This show is great. At first aI didn't like the main characters, they are exactly the opposite of what a trek fan would like. But as every episode progresses they all make sense and the developments are so exciting. It feels more canon than the despicable Discovery. They both had the same basis (an unconventional color woman leader), but while STLD goes where no man has gone before, STD behaves like a sexually transitted desease
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
This is the problem of our society...
...we have been growing in such different backgrounds and based on past masterpieces became so picky at anything slightly new that we cannot even appreciate a family anime. All these reviewers became such expert football managers from their tv sets, that they search any minor issue that is not exactly what they would or wouldn't expect. They expected the bad character to die, he didn't, so they see flatness. They didn't expect such good animation, they preferred something less good, so they see flatness.
I have an open mind, I have seen great Chinese animes like Ne Zha or Legend of Deification that I didn't fully understand, where the ethical expectancy of a westerner is not taken into account, I have seen all Disney vintage fairy tale animes and all recent live action versions and at 46 I never remember any that hasn't been up to my satisfaction. (I'm not talking about SW or Marvel ones which is something different).
If live Mulan was for some a mistaken love letter to China, Raya was an Asian-American love letter to the world. And I'm totally fine with it
well done but...
...something is lacking. Great visuals, superb cgi and production design, realistical concept, fine actors. I believe its main problem is the script. Longer than it should to keep your attention you might get bored more than once. It should have been more action packed, or just skip some talking parts to emphasize on a faster development. Overall this is more realistic sci-fi than recent Star Wars, but maybe Koreans should start emplying some American directors
Jojakdoen dosi (2017)
fugitive + fast furious + prison break + video game
Totally watchable at first sight, but slightly annoying at times (unless you like all the genres in the title). Certainly well done, but tiresome like if made by 5-6 different directors. So, after the end it is forgetable if not considered a waste of time. To me the latest at this day, few days after watching it.
Around the World in 80 Days (2004)
Jackie Chan's usual guarantee
Acclaimed during my youth, underrated later, JC is once again for me something to rediscover. His presence guaranteeing action and comedy as no other actor, he provides entertainment for the whole family despite the mediocre rates. Despite its age, the movie is a colourful and fun way to pass a concerns night
Lockdown zombie movie
If you are locked down, you will feel a bit like the protagonist. Yet you probably have a better time than this character. The movie is one location only and you might get bored. It is watchable, but better watch I am hero, Train to Busan or the non zombie Exit
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
good for 20min
The opening scene is almost better than anything we have ever seen in comics movies and then the fight in 84 is quite good.
Then came all the rubbish:
- so it is all about just a Wishmaster (there is already a such movie, why make this?)
- so we don't get a confrontation with the God who made the stone?
- Chris Pine was ok the 1st movie, but I didn't miss him so much to see him again in the whole new movie. His new body actor could have worked very well instead all along.
- Once WW is powerfull, then she gets tired, then she gets powerful again without explanation. Maybe this is a woman thing? Having her period for a few minutes or something?
- the old aircrafts are fully loaded?
- suddenly we learn she can make aircrafts disappear. Why not making also the car disappear in the car chase?
- wait! am I sitting here for 2 hours and it is still not finished? damn it, there is half more hour!
- Gadot has the looks, but not sure she can act. Something annoying with her voice?
- Was Trump president in 84?
- Since when WW has Asteria's armor in her closet?
- why was it in 1984?
- I still don't get it how she flies
- poor dialogue, weak writing, bad storytelling, script inconsistencies, bland humor.
and some real stars who can't save the day:
- Lilly Aspell
- Lynda Carter
It is watchable, but is no match for WW or Aquaman
Hearts of Winter (2020)
The 2 cast leads show their acting abilities in this not very original but very nice romcom
FaNtAsTiC XmAs movie. Instant classic part 2 it is!
Affected by the bad reviews and articles warning about annoying details of the movie, I was suspicious.
But I wouldn't lose this despite them.
The whole family enjoyed this 2nd part as much or even more than the 1st.
Most of the negative reviews are one sentence reviews without explaining anything. Maybe in some part of the world they decided it is not meant for them and they had to attack a movie which is about family values at Christmas. Many attacked the cast as if Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn are new actors and they don't know how to act? Maybe the utopic family for them is not like that and maybe the CGI is not perfect to them. Well you know what? they can start the year going to psychiatrist to find their real problem.
This movie is perfect and I would gladly watch it again and again. Don't lose it!
I will suscribe to NETFLIX immediately to have every now and then a story from the Xmas Chronicles encyclopedia for as long as Kurt Russell wears his red clothes!
Vratar galaktiki (2020)
If only it made sense!
Lots of high quality CGI cannot compensate the illogical plot with more holes than any French cheese. This being my first Russian movie romance seems so awkward with couples being arranged within a couple of seconds after meeting (is this how it is in Russia?). However the movie remains a good family entertainment with the spectacular non-sensical action and some beautiful faces.
for limited target market
If you are anything between 5 to 10 and you are a girl, you might like it.
Not suitable for anyone else. At 12 I remember watching horror movies like Friday 13th and Freddy. There is no adult in the movie for more than a couple of minutes all included and is painful to watch in family.
Another hit and miss from Netflix. The idea could be good, but the exectution is mediocre and only the character of Oona Laurence is somewhat decent. Compared to Hubbie Halloween this is a masterpiece, however. But it doesnt deserve the thoughts of franchise that the cliffhanger indicates.
Jackie's Fast & Furious version
Compared to Vanguard, latest FFs are physics seminars. V is a full action movie with actors looks coming out of a wax museum or statue maker. Everything is so clean and beautiful. Not a drop of blood despite all this shooting. Aimed as a family entertainment, looks like Kung Fu Yoga part 2 in Middle East instead of India. Jackie's role is limited, giving his place to what might be future Donnie Yens: Yang Yang and Miya Muqi. I would have preferred some gore, but it wouldnt be watchable in family, so it is ok like that.
The Sleepover (2020)
Top family entertainment
I was not familiar with most of the cast but they did an excellent work.
they are all funny, action is non-stop and you will laugh every few minutes. It reminded me of the Goonies, but mayube Spy Kids too if I had watched that.
Love and Monsters (2020)
slow and unrealistic
When a movie starts with an lengthy introduction explaining many things that happenned that you missed already, then you know there is nothing left to watch. I expected much better from Dylan O Brien. Maybe the character's writing was not good in the first place or maybe they should have chosen a younger actor.
The plot is not great either. Monsters that decimated the entire planet's population and armies, consist half of them of insects that can die with one arrow and the other half of friendly monsters with cute eyes.
The chemistry between the two leads is not there, there is no major surprise despite supposed twists. It feels like a 10 times unecessarily long mediocre episode of Love, Death and Robots.
I should give it a 4 or 5, but I found myself missing The Horse Girl which was a solid 4-5. Besides, all the positive reviews are too biased. So 2 is enough
Horse Girl (2020)
Well acted but slow social movie. some plot holes or unclear points and a deliberately unclear story. is it about extraterrestres or mental illness? you will never know. I would have preferred if it had a clear position
The Witches (2020)
Not my thing
I haven't seen the original and I see no point to of the story is so similar, even if it happens in another place. Apart from Anne Hathaway, there is nothing interesting in the movie. In addition I didn't like the witches being so ugly and the whole story involving only a potion for mice.
I can't believe Zemeckis did this.
Better watch Stuart Little.
