The Obsessions: the Makers
6 people |
Public
I love the quality of what they have made, and I trust in the quality of what they are going to make.
Whatever projects they do, and whatever (cliched) roles they play, these makers make sure they themselves do their jobs as perfectly as humanly possible, and by doing so, elevate the quality of the whole projects.
By "obsession," I only mean "having been following all of their film/TV/theater works by A) watching TV/going to the (movie) theater; B) watching videos when the works are OFFICIALLY on video."
Completeness is a difficult ideal. All the makers have other works such as articles, (audio) books, modeling, commercials, interviews, or reality TV, etc. Here, I focus on scripted drama alone and only in 1) acting, 2) writing, 3) directing, and 4) producing.
In order to list my personal recommendations, I divided the numbers of the makers' active years by 3, and chose the resulted numbers of works. It was because of these makers' high productivity. They all have decades-long multi-careers, and in scripted drama alone, each of them has more than 40 titles to their credit.
It was a painful process, for someone who obsesses about them all.

Seriously EGOT-Snubbed Actors/Actresses

EGOT refers to "Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony." I respect them very much. So why do award (nomination) snubs happen?
Here is my speculation:
EGOT Awards are the highest honors in television, recording, film and theater arts and sciences, and therefore carry social responsibility to shine the brightest possible light on great works/makers ignored by the lay general public.
As a result, when award contenders' performances are not "tremendously noticeably" better, the awards tend to skip those who are already rich, famous, beautiful, and loved by millions of fans.
So there it goes: my "too-rich-famous-beautiful-and-loved-by-millions-to-win-EGOT-Awards" theory, shortened as the "too-beautiful-to-win-EGOT" theory.
To prove it, here are the top actors/actresses from each decade who have been snubbed by EGOT Awards.
These actors and actresses are so much more than pretty faces. Their talent, perseverance, and dedication to make art are really what make them stars.
**In the following notes, all characters are in quotation marks; all titles are in capital letters.

By "obsession," I simply mean "having watched the title for 50 times and counting (for movies), or 10 times and counting (for TV series)."
Thanks to VHS tapes, DVDs, and streaming services.
