If you're not moved by this you didn't watch it
Wonderful portrayal of a not so wonderful stage in a wonderful performers life. This is not a biography it is a painful snapshot of the result of years of hard times as a tribute and celebration of the human behind the name. The fact that Renee's voice was used rather than dubbing in the original kept it authentic. I hope some prizes come this teams way.
Don't read about it - just watch it - you are wondering who is the real beast from beginning until the end. Beautiful location, the unrealistic supporting cast actually adds to the intrigue. This thing could have had many endings, the one used is fitting.
Ms. Purple (2019)
Hope we see more of Tiffany
Realistic, stark and rough film about making a go of it under very difficult circumstances.
Really carried by Tiffany Chu, hope we get to see much more of her. Well done.
Line of Duty (2019)
Yes it's unbelievable but still fun to watch
Totally unbelievable story-line and acting are combined with fast-paced action and lots of setup scenes. The act that you can guess what is coming next is probably what keeps you watching. Most of the storytelling is delivered with tongue in cheek humor while people are dying right left and center. The baddies are super smart, the good guys and authorities totally inept except the heroes and the result is Hallmark. Puts the movie in the middle of the line, not great, not bad, interesting use of the power of social media. I've seen a lot worse.
The Birdcatcher (2019)
Don't believe that rating, very well made
Great story, great mix of emotion with plot, a real soft spoken hero with a heart of steel.
It is not romanticised, it shows how events can shake people as people shape events and reveals some dark history.
No Stranger Than Love (2015)
Starts out comedic then transforms into satire - take a chance
It's a pity the hole has no closure. This story is a bit quirky, moves to being satirical but in the end is quite simply sweet. Well cast, reasonably delivered and fun to watch.
Worth taking a chance on.
My Mad Fat Diary (2013)
Unexpectedly gets you hooked
Starts like a teen series, it is a teen series, yet it is also so much more.
Did deep into the topics of confidence, depression, motivation and just plain complication of young people finding their way with each other. Has it's gritty moments, tugs at the heart strings. Best to binge watch it if you can.
Steel Country (2018)
This is under-rated
Take the time to see the Dark Place. It is a hidden gem. The characters and storyline believable, the emotions and scenery matching.
Small Crimes (2017)
Something about it works
It has all the makings of a pretty awfully put together B movie but something about it clicks and keeps one watching. Definitely no good guys anywhere in sight. Lots of pretty bad writing and mediocre plot direction. I was looking forward to a happier ending then we got - but I guess there far too many second chances in this mix.
Captive State (2019)
Don't listen to the negative reviews
Well worth a watch, a scifi tale of intrigue with enough tech in it to make it believable.
The story is disjointed - yes - that's what it's all about. Enjoy that, experience it and take it in, you will get it at the end.
Great storyline trivialized by cheap horror tricks, scary noises and unrealistic acting. Some good music. The concept is great the delivery was without respect for the audience.
More than just a crime movie
With a killer on the loose and The Witness paralyzed by fear this movie is as much an indictment on the false security and anonymity of modern living as it is a crime thriller. This is a crime movie, but it is more than that as a man discovers that everything he aimed for and wanted to protect was taking away his humanity.
With a killer easily evading what seem to be efficient but disconnected cops the story seems a bit contrived but overall worth the time to watch and the action continues from start to finish.
Moronic writing and excessive sex disrespect the audience
This should have been a good movie. Not a new tale but the premise that slippery slopes can lead to desparation should have been a good story. Unfortunately the director decided to make a skin flick with ridiculous actions by most of the characters. The best part of the movie, the actors, not just the lead, and not just the boobs that for some reason popped up far more often than necessary.
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
Reasonable Thriller riding on its Title
Apart from the character names there is not much to link this to the Dragon Tattoo brilliance. A moderate to good thriller with some awesome settings and barely believable plot. A bit of cool tech a badass girl lead. Well worth a viewing just don't expect it to match up with its predecessors.
A Simple Favor (2018)
Lots of Fun
Very well put together twisted tale delivered with a light touch. The result is something special.
The Confirmation (2016)
Great feel good movie
A very human story, people hurting each other while struggling to get buy. A father trying to get back on his feet and young boys learning to become men. A bit too sweet and wholesome, the child actors carried the movie. Overall you'll feel better after watching this, so take a look.
Story goes nowhere...
This is an attempt at a thriller with no real intrigue, just a lot of posturing. Confusing story that starts nowhere, tries to go for a big bang finish and fails to do so.
Quite dissatisfying to watch.
Well made but many missed opportunities.
Unlike other reviewers I believe the real missed opportunity here is the development and character of Mikey, Cuba Gooding's character. The full cast was very strong. The child actors well selected, and the plot predictable but well paced matching the characters. I believe within this script was the shell of a real blockbuster event if the development of the new family was given more time and focus particularly either the character of Cuba Gooding. Helen Mirring was a perfect selection for the Mother/ Lover and gave a very creditable performance. The sanctuary of the country home compared to the violent lifestyle of its inhabitants was well portrayed.
The Coalition (2012)
Imagine all the worst chick flicks
Imagine all the worst chick flicks produced and extract the worst moments and you get close to The Coalition; it almost has a plot, it is full of stereo types and shallow individuals and is more about attitude than substance. Some rotten tomatoes needed for the producers of this trivial piece. It is your classic good girl meets insensitive guy who is also a player story, There is so many girls getting it on with various men that it is not possible to keep up with which sassy character is linked with which stereotypical player. The men treat the women like objects, the women treat each other like objects and think of the men as suppliers. I am living in a place that is famous for the way it treats its ladies but if this posturing piece of trivia represents anyones real life we may as well turn out the lights on humanity... needless to say I don't like it :)
