Im a huge fan of the original film, and for me and my friends the fact that Brandon Lee sadly died making that film, made is somewhat a special movie in its own right, I am duty bound to say this before saying anything about this film, as its important to me that if you read this review, you understand that I love the original very much.
What I like about this film, is that is makes no attempt whatsoever, to be like the original, and I feel that the director / writers of this film did this deliberately and out of respect for the original and Brandon, I like that they spend a reasonable portion of the film developing the romance, I did really FEEL that they had fallen in love in this film like it was almost tangible before their all too well known fate comes knocking at the door.
I love that when Eric awoke from death, he wasn't suddenly a martial artist specialist, or explosives expert and while he sought revenge he wasn't actually very good at getting it initially, just because someone dies shouldn't mean they can do magical stuff when they come back.
I suspect many of the reviewers are very much defending the original (and I understand why), but change is constant and remakes are an aspect of the film industry that arent going to go away, so it is nice when those doing it, do it with an (almost) blank slate.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film, I cannot recall the last time I watched a film with Hugh Grant in it, but I can say that if there is more films like this to come with him starring I will be looking forward to watching them.
I did find myself wondering on more than a few occasions if the makers of this film had the VERY religious ppl sending them angry letters, but a risk well taken in my opinion, as the result was thought provoking and does make some comparisons that are in fact true (dare I say it).
As many other reviewers have pointed out it is a film of two halves and I must agree with them here, that it goes from a very tense thriller to something else, and I REALLY do think that the ending should have been more subtle and left with a "did they/ dont they" sort of cliffhanger but maybe thats just me.

Loved the first film, and was very keenly looking forward to the second only to leave the cinema feeling like I wanted to go home and rip up all my venom comics, fortunately I cannot say that about this film! Tom Hardy is great as always. Venom feels much more like the character I know and love in this film.
Reasonable story line and Mrs. Chen back for a little bit which naturally added a star on its own, just because, Mrs Chen.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, got a few laughs (as you should with venom), and if Venom 2 made you sad then theres a reasonable chance that this will balance them out for you (it certainly did for me!).
