Django (1966)
7/10
Worth checking out.
12 January 2015
I first discovered this movie a while back, after seeing Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained". I loved DU, so when I heard there was more where it came from, I got really exited. After seeing the film, i must say that it was quite enjoyable and worth checking out. Franco Nero gives a great performance as Django, the bad-ass coffin-dragger. It's really different from Jamie Foxx's performance in DU, but that just makes it more interesting. It's nice to see that Tarantino didn't completely remake the original.

The music is also great, and gives the film a great "feel". I wasn't aware that the music in "Django Unchained" was the same as in this one. So it came as a big surprise when the song Django popped up in the intro (which by the way, the intro is awesome and sets the mood perfectly). The music stays great throughout the film, and the songs never feel out of place.

Something I was surprised by, was a particular scene in the movie. I wont spoil it, but I will say that the scene actually kinda shocked me. I can handle violent content, but i was just so surprised that they would allow it in 1966. Thats probably why it was banned in multiple countries.

In conclusion, you should watch this film if you liked "Django Unchained". It's quite interesting seeing how much movies like these have changed, and how different from DU it is. But it's still very entertaining, and it helps that it has a great story. Check it out if you like westerns.

Creative, action-packed and with breathtaking animation!
5 December 2014
I just watched this for the first time recently, and I loved it! i had only seen one other Studio Ghibli film (Spirited Away), so I'm relatively new to their films. But because I loved this film so much, and Spirited Away is one of my all time favorites, I can't wait to watch some of their other work (already watched "My Neighbor Totoro", and i loved it).

It has a great and original story, which i wont spoil anything from. I went in knowing nothing about it, and I think it's the best way to watch it. It also has some great characters, and a great setting

The movies is filled with tons of creative creatures, and the world they live in is equally as creative. All of this is boosted by the incredible animation. Studio Ghibli is known for their incredible animation, and this is no exception. If you're expecting some cheap, lazy animation, you will be pleasantly surprised. It was surprisingly violent, and the action was directed very well. Funny how an animated film has way better action than most action films today.

In conclusion, Princess Mononoke is one of the best animated I've seen in years. It's fast paced and action-packed when it needs to, and it's slow paced and emotional when it needs to. It blends action, emotion and comedy very well, and you should definitely watch it.

Highly recommended for fans of Animated films, or just well made films in general.

They Live (1988)

Fun satire from a great director!
25 October 2014
"They Live" is a Sci-fi - Comedy - Horror cult movie from 1988, directed by the great John Carpenter. The movie revolves around Nada ( played by wrestling star Roddy Piper ), a common drifter who comes over a pair of sunglasses. But these aren't just any sunglasses. They make Nada realize that aliens have taken over the earth, and are controlling the human race in the form of commercials, magazines, and other forms of media. Now it's up to Nada, and his newly accompanied friend Frank, to try to stop the aliens, and find out whats going on.

Let me just say this. This is a criminally underrated film! It's funny, suspenseful, intelligent, and all around a great film. Roddy Piper gives a surprisingly good performance, and he's just perfect for the role. He's constantly spouting cheesy one liners, and kicking ass. He's just great.

Definitely check this one out. Is it flawless? No, it has a lot of problems. But it's just so fun and weird, that you don't care that much. The cheese factor just adds to the charm, and it's just great. Not for everyone, but still a great film.

Poltergeist (1982)

Great film, but not that scary
7 May 2014
Poltergeist isn't really scary. It really isn't. That may be because I've recently seen "The Shining" for the first time, and that film scared the crap out of me. Thats not to say that Poltergeist doesn't have scary scenes, It does. Not gonna spoil anything, but there are some scenes that truly makes this qualify as a "horror" movie, but if those scenes wasn't in it, It would be a spooky thriller no doubt. I actually really enjoyed the characters. I wanted them to survive, but I thought some didn't have enough screen time (like the big sister, she's the only one I didn't care for) But where the movie really shines, is in the last 25 minutes. It gets really intense and action packed, and I loved it. It moved the film up a good notch.

In conclusion:

Pros:

+Some truly scary scenes

+Fun concept and enjoyable characters

+That freaking clown

+The last 20 minutes

+Good characters...

Cons:

-...but some of them deserved more screen time

-Slow start

-Not that scary

Decent movie, but ruined by plot holes and confusing ending.
26 April 2014
Don't get me wrong, I really liked "Batman Begins", and I LOVED "The Dark Knight". So naturally, I was super psyched for the epic conclusion, to this soon to be trilogy. But after watching it, I gotta say...It was just OK.

It was pretty disappointing, and I was really hoping for something more. I mean, the movie is over 2 and a half hours long, but it sure has a lot of "nothing" in it. Boring drawn out scenes without anything happening, instead of having character development or actually having BATMAN in the movie. Seriously, Batman appears only a couple of times in this film...this film about BATMAN! It also had a mediocre ending, with a lot of questions unanswered. And also...the plot holes. They really distracted from the main story, and there wore too many of them.

But the film has stuff I enjoy. I thought Bane (even though he had a odd voice) was pretty awesome, and when Batman appeared on screen, he was pretty cool. I also enjoyed the fight scenes, and the scenes with the whole city at war.

So really, if you liked the other films, you should watch this one too. Just don't expect too much.

In conclusion:

Pros:

+Bane

+Batman (when he appeared)

+Fight and war scenes

Cons:

-Not enough Batman

-Really rushed death scenes

-Batman's back problems

-Plotholes

-Ending
