Excellent!

I've always been fascinated with relationship dynamics and I've watched this show evolve ever since Day One. It hasn't disappointed me. To the detractors: this is the oldest profession I know of - why? Because people want what they want and if we can't get it, some of us can buy it, and those of us who can, do. Guys who are stupid think that any woman can "get laid" by just walking into a bar, but for us it's a LOT more complicated than that - it is for you too, stupid guys! These men are a nice assortment and they're so complicated and interesting that I'd have a hard time pigeon-holing any of them, which makes the show so much fun.

For instance, Brace had a vasectomy awhile back, yet he LOVES children and suddenly wishes he could have one - however, he's currently involved with a woman with EXTREME fake eyelashes, so I just don't know where this can go.

Nick just insured his dick for a million dollars, which tells you right up front that he thinks his dick is all he has to offer - he's all about the presentation and he doesn't even get THAT right, IMO. WTF is UP with that haircut? Ash seems intensely spiritual, yet he had a girlfriend for awhile but she has disappeared. Ash is gorgeous, but I wouldn't hire him.

I like the former Marine a lot, but we don't get to see much of him, unfortunately.

Vin, though, is the MAN ♥ I'd hire his sweet self in a New York minute if I could afford to! He has the most wonderful LAUGH, to begin with - he just LOSES himself and makes you laugh with him, and he says that when he has a woman in front of him, he's a happy man! He tries to find out right up front what a woman wants and needs and then does his best to supply her with it, and I've never seen him fail. Vin has a warm and caring heart and he has no problem making a woman feel loved and cared for - it's just what he DOES ♥ All in all, I hope this show goes on for years and years! The jealous men, prudes and whatnot can whine all they want, but as long as this show goes on, I'll be all over it!

Vastly Underrated Here!
19 August 2012
Maybe I'm just not as theatrically pseudo-sophisticated as those who gave this wonderful movie the low ratings it has received here, but I found it delightful! It has everything I ask for in a movie - it totally engaged me from start to finish and it ended much too soon for me. I want a sequel! It didn't need big-name actors to get its points across and I only recognized one actor there; the others whom I didn't remember having seen before this film did great jobs with their respective roles. Douglas Spain was captivating as the highly beleaguered Carlos - so much so that I plan to follow him in whatever future roles he plays. I have Boy Toy at the top of my Blockbuster queue and I wish it could arrive in my mailbox YESTERDAY! This movie was nominated for awards, people, and it won one so do yourselves a favor and give it a chance!

I can't see this movie enough!

I love the character Gere portrayed so flawlessly - Jesse's sheer intensity is a joy to behold. I really enjoyed the music throughout the film also, and the way it captures the varying moods so well. Kaprisky does a good job with her character as well - the exotic Frenchwoman Monica, torn between her plans for her life and her moth-to-the-flame attraction to the exuberant, unstoppable Jesse. This film has just had a run on EPIX on demand and I must have seen it six or seven times - it's one of my all-time favorites: those few, special films that, although I can almost speak the dialogue in unison with the characters, are still the ones I reach for and watch again and again.

I Could Not Stop Laughing! I Love It to Pieces!
1 February 2007
This movie is a total romp. Campbell Scott is the man to watch. Try not to miss a word he says. I can easily imagine this thing becoming a cult film. We have already adopted several family slang phrases from stuff he said.

David Aaron Baker and Mary McCormack are gorgeous, and Rob Morrow as her brother is wildly over-the-top as a non-meds-compliant Tourette's Syndrome patient. Stockard Channing as the shrink from Hell just fell right in line with the rest of the madness instead of curing any.

Do yourself a favor and see this thing. I'll bet you'll thank me for the nudge.

Save Me
19 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I'm watching this raggedy movie and I wish I didn't have to say 10 lines about the horrible thing. I could have summed it up in 3 words:

Pompous Self-centered Sellouts.

I loved, loved, loved Metallica in the Kill 'Em All days, before they forgot who we, the fans, loved them for and became short-haired and conceited jerks. Why they couldn't manage to ever let Jason Newstedt be a part of their snobbish little brotherhood, I'll never understand, unless it's that Jason was able to out-macho Hetfield and somehow Hetfield took his head out of his rear just long enough to notice that.

Come on, really now, real heavy metal bands don't do symphony orchestra *snort* or even think about subjecting orchestral type peeps to heavy metal music!

While I'm ranting, let's all remember what band went after Napster with both barrels? Metallica, that's who. These days it would surprise me if they could even GIVE their music away, let alone hope for peeps to go to Napster to get it, LOL. I checked the "spoiler" box but I don't see how any of us could spoil this movie any more than it manages to spoil its own self!

The Idolmaker (1980)

One of My All-Time Faves
15 January 2006
This one's a movie I never was able to get tired of, so I finally purchased it online. The music is catchy and irresistible, the electrifying Ray Sharkey was at his usual best and, according to IMDb, this was Peter Gallagher's first movie.

As Gallagher's various profiles indicate, he performed in a band early on, and whatever he drew from that makes him shine on stage in Idolmaker. Now he's releasing CD's of his singing and original songs - go figure. Obviously the late great Sharkey didn't invest that theatrical gene in Gallagher, but he and this movie can only have nourished and enhanced it.

Sharkey truly was a tiger tiger burning bright and he never shone brighter than as the Idolmaker.

Olympia Dukakis was perfect as the Idolmaker's mother. Color me surprised; that actress can do no wrong, in my opinion.

The music in this film is a huge part of its charm, as has been said before. And it looks like more of the movie was choreographed than just the stage scenes and Vinnie's training of his would-be stars; the whole thing just ends up being served up as perfectly as a 5-star gourmet dinner.

How Often Do One's Dreams Come True?
13 January 2006
I loved it, loved it, loved it.

I never dared to hope the movie would prove to be all that I KNEW it could be, in the best of all possible worlds. It was all of that and more.

Yeppers, I'm a hopeless romantic - although I consider that a contradiction in terms.

If you loved the music but never saw the stage play, I'm betting the movie will blow your socks off.

Our local cable company made a Christmas gift of Phantom. On this particular gift, I don't have to lie when I say that it was just what I wanted.

Love Actually (2003)

Delightful!
2 February 2005
I love this movie. I wanted to see it from the first time I saw the trailers for it, and could barely wait for it to get to cable. Even though I have it now on VHS tape, I still can't resist watching the movie every time it runs on cable.

I found the little boy, Sam, adorable, as well as the aging rock star Billy Mack. Hugh Grant's dancing is to die for, just darling. Little Sam's love interest, Joanna, has a wonderful voice. I'd love to have the soundtrack from the movie.

Laura Linney's love interest, Karl, is drop-dead gorgeous.

All in all, I highly recommend this one. I've seen it so many times now that I can practically talk along with it, but I never get tired of it.
