Refreshingly modern comedy
17 February 2014
If you scour the lowest rated reviews for this show you'll only hear criticism in the form of 'it's not funny' with little or no justification.

I think the reason for this is exactly the same reason behind similar criticism for 'The office' here in UK - which is that some people just don't get it.

The boring out-dated premise for comedy is unrealistically happy young people getting into mishaps followed by feel good endings all round - e.g/ Scrubs, Friends, Big Bang Theory - Boring.

The premise for It's always sunny is narcissistic and selfish characters on the upper edge of youth trying to make everything about themselves to their own detriment.

In other words, we've gone in completely the opposite direction to the status quo, which comedy SHOULD. The addition of Danny DeVito who's synonymous with 'old school' is just the icing on the cake, well done Danny for 'getting it' and for contributing to something genuinely funny and original!

Never heard of Reeves and Mortimer, however...

What I see when I watch this program is 2 middle aged men with no particular skills or ability who have probably failed at any attempts at any sort of career and have resorted to bottom of the barrel easy-to-write gags with no character based humour at all.

I probably sound like somebody who's 'no fun' for saying this, but when I think back to shows like The Extras, It's always sunny in Philadelphia and South Park I laugh.. When I think back to this show I'm going to think 'How sad..'.

The setup for this show comes in form of 10 second lines for each character which are sung in such a way as to make us think "oooh how random and fun!" - My understanding is that one of them owns a flat, the other one is just there for no reason - and Matt Berry (doing his usual character) turns up every so often.

If you've seen 'the extras' by Gervais and are familiar with 'when the whistle blows' - this exact show is more or less what they are making fun of... However I doubt they would have known back then just how bad a BBC sitcom could get!

Watch the trailer, there.. you've seen it

Seriously... my 4 stars are 2 for acting, 2 for special effects.

Dialog get's more or less 0, because it sounds like it was hashed out in about 10 minutes.

I'd normally save the rest for plot, but there was none... If you watch the trailer, and I tell you that she survives.. you would then be able to convince anybody else who's seen it that you'd seen it too.. I'm sure plenty of people will say that's an exaggeration but I promise it's not..

If you meet anybody who says it's good, try this out for yourself and see if it works!

The special effects are amazing, but it's like the icing on a missing cake - you have to have substance first. Bear in mind I'm a huge fan of movies like inception and the matrix, movies which some would accuse of being more special effects than plot - but this takes the biscuit.

I'll say no more, because the trailer plus the inevitable ending speaks for itself.
