I have been looking for this movie for years. I went to Block Buster Video to see if I could have it ordered to no avail. Anyway, this was the black version of Cinderella and it took place in Harlem. It was a musical and it was truly a great cast. Nell Carter played one of the evil step sisters and Clifton Davis played Cindy's prince (a military man). The movie came on PBS and it was the first movie that I could totally relate to because it was an all black cast. They sang, danced and they even jumped double dutch. I also remember that Cindy's dad was a men's room attendant at a big hotel and he lied about his job. I absolutely loved this movie and would love to get a copy of it. Excellent movie!

The Righteous Apples (1980–1981)

Righteous Apples

I remember watching this show when I was younger growing up in Chicago. Up and Coming was another one that would come on either before or after Righteous Apples. This was a PBS show as well. I wanted to join the band. This show took place in an urban setting somewhere on the east coast (I can't remember) and I remember that it came out in the early eighties or late seventies (like 1979). It wasn't as good as Up and Coming, but it was a good show nonetheless. I don't know if either show is out on DVD, but it wouldn't hurt to find out. I would recommend each show if you have young children. Overall, it was a good show. It could be a bit preachy and the cast changed every so often, but it was a good show.

This was an excellent show. It came on PBS back home in Chicago and I remember Cindy Herron (From EnVogue) played the teen aged daughter. The show dealt with subjects such as sex, peer pressure and puberty. IT was about a middle class black family who had a teen aged daughter and son who moved to a middle class neighborhood from Oakland or somewhere (I can't remember). I remember several episodes but the one I remember most was when their cousin got her period for the first time. I was probably 7-8 when I first watched it and I was able to keep up with the program. This was a great show. I can't remember the name of the guy who played the son on the show, but I always got him confused with Kevin Hooks.
